On this weeks episode of #drivinghome we rescue a gorgeous 1976 GMC Motorhome and immediately get her back out on the road!
Did I mention we only paid $900 for it?? We drove it 70 miles home and sold it for $4000! Woooooo...one mans trash is another mans treasure!
This beast had a flawless interior and a very "Oakland Raiders-esque" paint job. It had a 455 Rocket Oldsmobile motor that fired right to life and even the airbags held air...which never happens with these rigs.
The only real problem the old babe had was a cursed front left tire that blew out on us twice :) Its ok..nothing some knuckle smashing and a brand new tire can't fix!

@Santina Murphy i have a 77 Palm Beach and the interior seemed at some point re done in some areas, but the pull down bunk in the back, very nice, i only know the couch makes into a bunk

You can cut the cheap special effects of twisting the camera. People want to appreciate the interrior and not vomit.
You guys lucked into a pristine example of GM's finest endeavors!!! Looks like someone already did a minor upgrade inside, just an exterior polish and you can make a killing on a resale!

I dunno. I would've kept that baby from now until the end of freakin' time. Those are the best RV's on this island Earth. I can't get over that pristine interior. And some fool just gave it away for 900 bucks (well, rotten tires notwithstanding...).
And they sold a $50,000 motor home for $4000.

But... You could have cracked a windshield by jacking up at one side in the front! Never do that with a GMC Motorhome! Always in the middle (It has not a chassis but a frame, more like an airoplane has).

im a retired vet on disability,, i need a reliable,, motorhome to finish up my years surfing,,fishing,, and traveling baja ca..ext. cosmetics not to important... my dog "yonke" & i aint to picky,,, just need a dependable,, solid, mechanically sound... i have$ 2500-$5000.. any help would be so appreciated... god bless,, don moore.
You should have opted to get all new tires before getting on the road. Lots of dry rot in those old tires. Very nice GMC, you lucked out.
With these new fwd diesel sprinter vans running around a drive train upgrade should be someone’s next project

I might be wrong (I usually am) but one of the problems with this RV was that it was built on a Toranado frame. Is that possible?
No, it is not built on a Toronado frame. It uses the Toronado drivetrain, ie, front wheel drive, 455 Olds V8 (403 on later models) and TH425 transmission. This is not a problem, it is a feature. The FWD layout means the floor in the rear is very low and the Olds V8 is about the best motor GM ever built IMO.
Wasn't it the Star Streak motorhome built on the frame of a '71 Toronado?

Do you ever come through Missouri we just bought a 81 dodge rv and need help we can't get a fuel pump for it and the one spark plug won't go in we have drove it seems to be great but needs a few things and we need to get to south Carolina with it which is a 15 hour trip we are full time. Rvers any help would be grateful for God bless

Captain Sam Wilson don’t be mad.. just start using your skill smarter. You’re working too hard. This year we found at least 10 free RVs that all sold for more than 3k each. Most of which would have ended up scraped. Now they are alive and thriving

Hope your luck keep running. U just get scammers on CL down here in Georgia and Fla for the most part.. or out and out junk..
