I doubt they would they care if people are critiquing, or hating, the show as long as it's bringing them more viewers. Riverdale got ridiculous and their producers rolled with it, probably thrilled that everyone was talking about it.

I have a niche TV show recommendation for you! It's called Reunion and I believe it's only available in multiple parts on UA-cam lol. It's a murder mystery teen drama from 2005 following a group of 6 friends. The murder happened 20 years after they graduated so each episode flashes back year by year, starting from 1995, going through all the drama that went down. You would love ittt since it's very messy. Although, I need to warn you that it was cancelled after 1 season so infuriatingly, it's left on a cliffhanger. But the creators have said who the killer is and how it happened. The show was pretty popular but nowhere near enough to compete with The OC and One Tree Hill 💔
It would have also been great promotion for the show which Max/HBO Max clearly lacked in promoting for this second season. It would have drummed up more viewers for the season than they already had and keeping the hype for the now dead season three. Honestly, this is infuriating.
I did worry what those showrunners would do to future seasons but had been hoping to have a good third season. So annoyed its been cancelled but i feared they would. I stick to rewatching more then starting a new show because nowdays whats the point when theyre going to set things up for a multiple series show only to cancel it? All the streaming services keep cancelling popular shows and for what reason? Why get us invested only to drop it.
Literally don’t think theres been a show I’ve loved and been excited for that’s made it past a second or third season in like 6 years. First Kill, arcane, good omens, our flag means death, dead end paranormal park, fate winx, inside job, skull island, warrior nun, cursed, Lockwood and co, the imperfects, the irregulars, everything sucks, gossip girl, shadow and bone, the list is endless
I really think the fun that we saw in cable tv kind of died with the stranger things and HBOification of shows. Things have to be epic in scale and really compact narratively, and I think it does a disservice to shows like PLL. We care about the ladies of Wisteria Lane, the Upper East Siders, the Liars, etc. because we had all that runtime for fluff stories that expanded their characters and relationships in ways that may not have felt significant, but really helped get viewers invested in the characters and stories. One of the issues people had with original sin/simmer school is that the friendships don’t feel authentic in the way the original did, and I think that’s largely because they had no time to show the girls hanging out if it wasn’t pushing the plot forward.
100%! We need FILLER! Give us stories that don't always advance the main plot, especially in shows where you have an ensemble cast! One of the things that genuinely frustrated me about the Gossip Girl reboot was that we didn't get fluff! Show us the fun and extravagance! I want to see these characters interact and act like actual friends! The ups and downs in these shows are what makes them great! And bring back 20+ episode seasons!
HBO MAX is absolutely horrible with shows that are reboots take example from the gossip girl reboot it's like as soon as a show is finally getting good and good writing, they cancel it and it's mainly because of money reasons and how these IPs are very expensive to use
Proper writing and storytelling without contriving a disjointed, brow beating plot with lesbians and trans chracters smashed in makes the story feel contrived and predictable. People don't like brow beating predictable, morality plays. Just not fun or interesting. That is the reason these shows fail. All these cancelled series, look at the character arcs in these series. Find the commanality. You'll see what I mean.
The PLL reboot should've taken major notes from Cruel Summer S1. The mystery was compelling, the characters were realistic and their actions/decisions were believable, and they actually touched upon really serious issues with the care they deserved. I'm surprised Original Sin got a second season with how terribly written it was.
I'm so pissed off it's been trending it was always in the top 10 on max. It got so much more hype and views than the first season We deserved that 3rd season 😭

I honestly was hoping it would be cancelled because it was starting to go in a downhill direction…. the super talented cast deserved so, so much better than what was given in season 2. I will miss Kelly! Season 1 of OS was a true classic and I will pretend season 2 never happened.

The bubble has burst and if every person on earth doesn't watch something it's getting axed because corporate executives are the most anti-art scum on the planet. Season1:Predictable killer Season 2: Lame killer who you couldn't figure out. Lame love interests Tried to be deep but the creators lacked the skill to pull it off You don't get the characters or their motivations For the most part, it didn't look good. Bad dialogue Mysteries need to make sense and have clues you can GUESS Not all the characters really had arcs The lesbian couples weren't good people, fun, smart and had no chemistry. The girls never felt like friends. The trans character had sloppy implications that weren't addressed. The bad guys sucked.
When you have lesbians and trans in a show or movie, know it will be disjointed and contrived like making square pegs fit round holes. All these shows fail because of that. Can't tell a story without preaching a message is a bad business model.
Almost every story has a message, a moral, or some objective lesson to learn from though. It would be hard to not tell a story without preaching some sort of message. I mean, take for example with the Barbie movie. It was a fun story but it preached several messages and still stand as a successful film. However, I do think contrived plot lines just don’t work in general, there are LGBTQ+ stories that do work and there is a trans storyline that does work in the show. What is a bad business model is telling disjointed and contrived story preaching a message but I don’t think the general sentence you framed that all stories that being told while trying to convey a message is necessarily a bad business model.

All I see about iconic shows like DH and PLL is that ‘this show would not be allowed in this day and age’ and it shows with series like Original Sin. WE WANT THE CAMP 😩 we don’t want to be hit over the head with social/political issues every time we tune in.

It ended as it should have been because the potential wouldn't have been see under Roberto. He would've continued to ruin the universe of pll and push his weird obsession of the archie verse just to merge the two. Also, the storylines and plot twist were to predictable and had no great build ups. I won't even get into what they did to noa as a character and bringing in jen because thats not really relevant to the cancellation. You should watch Charmed (the original), buffy the vampire Slayer, Degrassi, and shadow hunters.
I'm in the UK and HBO max is not available here, so yet again a show I will probably never get to watch has been cancelled before I can even see more. Thankfully season 1 was on BBC iplayer so I was able to the 1st season at least and I loved the 1st season! Such a huge shame!
Hello, sorry you’re disappointed but I never saw good things about the show. HBO Max wanted to cancel after Original Sin but tried a second season with a new name Summer School. Now I didn’t watch so I’m commenting about tv shows made after Me Too. Writers/Hollywood aren’t capable of writing compelling stories for women because someone will complain about certain things no matter what. I’m a firm Democrat but I’m not a “Woke Democrat”, I understand there are certain tropes and drama that needs to be included to make a reel life show enjoyable to watch. Now in 2021 Sylvester Stallone said some of the “Woke Ideas” are killing Hollywood. Just observing Twitter/X and Reddit majority of the comments are people complaining about red herring, inappropriate relationships, women against women, giving women passes for everything and all men are bad. Now I loved the original and rewatch it frequently and I just started another rewatch with my 12 year old daughter and niece. Since they have peeped before when I watch alone they know the premise so they understand 95% of all these characters are bad, this isn’t real, and not to do anything of this in the real world from there we have started a rewatch for me and a first time full watch for them. Sorry for rambling. Just to some up I think viewers miss the old days and the way old shows/movies were done before and the beginning of social media, when we would watch and when we saw certain tropes we would say this wrong but let’s see where this goes and just continue to watch and not constantly harp and complain about it. Finally, real life thoughts and opinions need to stop being projected on make believe tv shows/movies. Sorry once again for the long post but I just wanted to share my opinion of the current state of media we watch and try to enjoy. Have a lovely day or night.
i am so glad it is over and done with . i dont think that it should have lasted like this . also , like friendly space ninja pointed out , since this show lived in the riverdale universe and they destroyed that universe at the end of the show , it should never have existed . we should hold onto the original as what it is , and not drag it back up .
Exactly!!!! I hated that Roberto brought his mess into the pll universe as I suspected in the beginning. He kept trying to merge the universes and it just kept pissing me off.

I get what you mean, cause despite my criticisms and some things not being perfect i still loved the girls/cast and the show 😭 and was tuning in constantly. I live in South Africa so the show would release on Prime 3 days later than for the US audiences. I would avoid spoilers and Instagram, even unfollowed some of the cast and then would refollow. I was committed to the point that i only got prime to watch the show, had it for about a 2 month period. I would rewatch Season 1 aswell until I cancelled Prime, i watch all the yt videos on the show even tho i know exactly what happens just cause i love hearing people talk about the show/ universe I love.

I genuinely feeling like streaming has ruined TV at this point. Shows get cancelled before they can even find their audience or carve out their niche. Shows like Buffy and Charmed would've gotten cancelled immediately if they came out today.

I watch Big Sky and I feel like it is a female led show. I also love that the trans character is just treated like a women they show her struggle with certain people but in general she’s treated like a woman.

It's Quite the contrary actually. As most shows now pander towards females (mainly white females). If the shows are getting cancelled, it has nothing to do with men, it just means it didn't get enough of the female audience. If many females were watching it, it'll get renewed. Shows like Bridgerton and Emily in Paris are proof of this
im pretty sure when hbo max switched execs and became just max the execs made a conscious effort to disengage from women-driven media (aka they didnt want their target audience to be women) you can see this in the shows that they got rid of around that time too

Hello Lauren, I just wanted to share with you my affection for you. While some may dislike Aria and Ezra, many actually love them. It's important to remember not to be rude or disrespectful towards them. I'm glad they won't negatively impact the show I cherish, Pretty Little Liars. I was saddened when they killed off the therapist, whom I admire greatly. Ezra and Aria are among my favorite characters, and I hope they don't make a return. I appreciate shows such as Outer Banks, Stranger Things, Heartstopper, and Euphoria, where the friendships are portrayed in a strong manner. However, in my opinion, Pretty Little Liars: Summer School falls short of my expectations.
I feel like if we all band together and say something, they may give us a chance. They can uncancel it if they want to, it’s unlikely, but it doesn’t hurt to try especially when it was only a few days ago

The lesbian couples weren't good people, fun, smart and had no chemistry.
The girls never felt like friends.
The trans character had sloppy implications that weren't addressed.

When you have lesbians and trans in a show or movie, know it will be disjointed and contrived like making square pegs fit round holes. All these shows fail because of that. Can't tell a story without preaching a message is a bad business model.
Almost every story has a message, a moral, or some objective lesson to learn from though. It would be hard to not tell a story without preaching some sort of message. I mean, take for example with the Barbie movie. It was a fun story but it preached several messages and still stand as a successful film. However, I do think contrived plot lines just don’t work in general, there are LGBTQ+ stories that do work and there is a trans storyline that does work in the show. What is a bad business model is telling disjointed and contrived story preaching a message but I don’t think the general sentence you framed that all stories that being told while trying to convey a message is necessarily a bad business model.

Shows get canceled nowadays because they:
*don't have good writers
*push agendas over storytelling
*have tons of money yet don't always use the budget well.
*poorly include diversity, upsetting people

I think one of the words you might be looking for is camp, there is no camp anymore.
All I see about iconic shows like DH and PLL is that ‘this show would not be allowed in this day and age’ and it shows with series like Original Sin. WE WANT THE CAMP 😩 we don’t want to be hit over the head with social/political issues every time we tune in.
This spoke to me so hard omg because it’s true everyone’s tired of superhero’s and companies don’t prioritize shows for the girlies because they don’t see them as serious or gritty enough and it’s so sad
If you have apple TV I think a fun show you might like it Palm Royale and they just got confirmed for a season 2!!!! Its not teen but it is a lot of fun

It ended as it should have been because the potential wouldn't have been see under Roberto. He would've continued to ruin the universe of pll and push his weird obsession of the archie verse just to merge the two. Also, the storylines and plot twist were to predictable and had no great build ups. I won't even get into what they did to noa as a character and bringing in jen because thats not really relevant to the cancellation. You should watch Charmed (the original), buffy the vampire Slayer, Degrassi, and shadow hunters.
I'm in the UK and HBO max is not available here, so yet again a show I will probably never get to watch has been cancelled before I can even see more. Thankfully season 1 was on BBC iplayer so I was able to the 1st season at least and I loved the 1st season! Such a huge shame!

Hello, sorry you’re disappointed but I never saw good things about the show. HBO Max wanted to cancel after Original Sin but tried a second season with a new name Summer School. Now I didn’t watch so I’m commenting about tv shows made after Me Too. Writers/Hollywood aren’t capable of writing compelling stories for women because someone will complain about certain things no matter what. I’m a firm Democrat but I’m not a “Woke Democrat”, I understand there are certain tropes and drama that needs to be included to make a reel life show enjoyable to watch. Now in 2021 Sylvester Stallone said some of the “Woke Ideas” are killing Hollywood. Just observing Twitter/X and Reddit majority of the comments are people complaining about red herring, inappropriate relationships, women against women, giving women passes for everything and all men are bad. Now I loved the original and rewatch it frequently and I just started another rewatch with my 12 year old daughter and niece. Since they have peeped before when I watch alone they know the premise so they understand 95% of all these characters are bad, this isn’t real, and not to do anything of this in the real world from there we have started a rewatch for me and a first time full watch for them. Sorry for rambling. Just to some up I think viewers miss the old days and the way old shows/movies were done before and the beginning of social media, when we would watch and when we saw certain tropes we would say this wrong but let’s see where this goes and just continue to watch and not constantly harp and complain about it. Finally, real life thoughts and opinions need to stop being projected on make believe tv shows/movies. Sorry once again for the long post but I just wanted to share my opinion of the current state of media we watch and try to enjoy. Have a lovely day or night.
i am so glad it is over and done with . i dont think that it should have lasted like this . also , like friendly space ninja pointed out , since this show lived in the riverdale universe and they destroyed that universe at the end of the show , it should never have existed . we should hold onto the original as what it is , and not drag it back up .

Exactly!!!! I hated that Roberto brought his mess into the pll universe as I suspected in the beginning. He kept trying to merge the universes and it just kept pissing me off.
Girl you can’t be serious this show sucked so much ass 😭 lazy lazy storylines and characters, a couple of good actresses was all it had going for it

Umbrella academy (season 4 was trash but still) stranger things, iCarly the revival, black lightning, squid game, grownish, Wednesday, Nancy Drew(on the CW), Magicians, sweet tooth, a series of unfortunate events, and Shadow hunters. Hell, let's add some old shows, charmed, Buffy the vampire Slayer, supernatural, Degrassi, Kyle xy. The canceled shows that are good too are the lying game, the secret circle, eye candy, shadow and bones, and dead boy detectives (I haven't watched it yet but was supposed to then it got cancelled 🥴🙄🤦🤦)

this is the laugh i needed after a long day at school. it is a total bummer that they continue to cancel phenomenal shows, and still keeps trash ones running. i do feel as if hbo max owes use a reason of way it's been canceled and maybe if it is budget issues, if they will sell the show

I get what you mean, cause despite my criticisms and some things not being perfect i still loved the girls/cast and the show 😭 and was tuning in constantly. I live in South Africa so the show would release on Prime 3 days later than for the US audiences. I would avoid spoilers and Instagram, even unfollowed some of the cast and then would refollow. I was committed to the point that i only got prime to watch the show, had it for about a 2 month period. I would rewatch Season 1 aswell until I cancelled Prime, i watch all the yt videos on the show even tho i know exactly what happens just cause i love hearing people talk about the show/ universe I love.

I hate you can’t find Ravenswood on line. I know it wasn’t that good but when you watch PLL over you need that to fill in the holes in the storyline.

And also outerbanks 100%!! that’s the first “newer” show that I’ve watched in along time that actually has good genuine friendship chemistry to me. it might catch you by surprise and I think you might enjoy it. It’s definitely a teen drama , has a lot of action, romance , friendship etc…

I genuinely feeling like streaming has ruined TV at this point. Shows get cancelled before they can even find their audience or carve out their niche. Shows like Buffy and Charmed would've gotten cancelled immediately if they came out today.

I watch Big Sky and I feel like it is a female led show. I also love that the trans character is just treated like a women they show her struggle with certain people but in general she’s treated like a woman.

It's Quite the contrary actually. As most shows now pander towards females (mainly white females).
If the shows are getting cancelled, it has nothing to do with men, it just means it didn't get enough of the female audience.
If many females were watching it, it'll get renewed. Shows like Bridgerton and Emily in Paris are proof of this
im pretty sure when hbo max switched execs and became just max the execs made a conscious effort to disengage from women-driven media (aka they didnt want their target audience to be women) you can see this in the shows that they got rid of around that time too

I so agree with you I mean I'm Gen Z so I wasn't into a lot of the shows from the millennial generation just because I wasn't old enough yet but I was a llate pretty little liars watcher but I still am definitely obsessed with it and I just feel like we keep getting slapped in the face as fans like the creators are really trying to give us that nostalgic pretty little liars fandom Back by making these awesome reboot and spin offs and these big companies just keep shutting everyone of them down first Ravenswood then the perfectionist and now original sin if there just going to give to turn around and take away from us just please give it a rest and I can go on rewatch the original pretty little liars 150 more times And staying obsessed that way it's so frustrating and I totally agree though it's not a lot of shows that give me that crazy obsessed. I can watch it 50 million times and never get tired of it like pretty little liars. Outer Banks is amazing and I love it. but not like pretty little liars love but it's pretty great. It's not completely geared towards girls, but it's a really really good show that I think you should watch for sure.

How much does it cost to produce the show and how much money is the show generating? Those are the only two questions that matter. If the show isn't making the studio money and it costs a lot of money to make it doesn't matter how popular it is.

A fan-favorite shouldn't struggle for viewers, should it? So, I'm thinking it was neither of those two. That just doesn't make sense.

Hello Lauren, I just wanted to share with you my affection for you. While some may dislike Aria and Ezra, many actually love them. It's important to remember not to be rude or disrespectful towards them. I'm glad they won't negatively impact the show I cherish, Pretty Little Liars. I was saddened when they killed off the therapist, whom I admire greatly. Ezra and Aria are among my favorite characters, and I hope they don't make a return. I appreciate shows such as Outer Banks, Stranger Things, Heartstopper, and Euphoria, where the friendships are portrayed in a strong manner. However, in my opinion, Pretty Little Liars: Summer School falls short of my expectations.
I feel like if we all band together and say something, they may give us a chance. They can uncancel it if they want to, it’s unlikely, but it doesn’t hurt to try especially when it was only a few days ago
