Literally the greatest freaking snare I've ever heard in my entire freaking life holy freaking crap
q Haven how? It sounds dead and boxy!
TForTeddy you can make any snare sound like this with tuning.
@@AMDpc067 Not that easy, and it is pretty freaking amazing.
That snare sound is just perfect.
Love Your Snare sound . Your Whole Kit Sounds Great. Thank you God Bless.
To this day, this is one of my favorite tracks to play!
Thank you David for this video! Not only did this video teach me not to over play this song, but it also gave me a golden tom tuning reference point! You’re the man!
David. Brother. That snare though 😍
Thank you !!!
I have an audition soon and this is track I will be drumming too. Wish me luck I am so excited !!!!!
Blessed drummer
So good! Such great drum parts on this track! 👌🏼

Dang man soo good! You love to play on the backend of the click
Wonderful A+ Thx for posting.
Finally!!!!
Really helpful thanks alot !!!
that snare sounds so HOT!
Perfect groovin of the music.
Hopefully I can learn this in 5 days
How'd it go?
That kick sound is so good! Any tips?
Cool thanks
All the drummers at my church overplay this.
T AN Tell them not to.
He’s playing a laid back groove..if he played exactly to the metronome it would sound to mechanical.
Playing the song in time has never and will never sound mechanical. It actually takes a somewhat decent musician to be able to refrain from improvising and possibly ruining the song by overplaying it.
I've played this at church, and I found with this song, and a lot of songs, when you stick to the original drum parts, it can seem like you are overplaying A LOT. Sometimes things require more simplicity. And sometimes a little extra (for the sake of timekeeping). Time keeping is paramount, of course...peace
I play it how the original song is at my church
WOW!!!!!!
Bayron Cua nn
I'm not a drummer myself self, but what I've been noticing about drumming is that simplicity almost always sounds better (at least in my opinion). It just sounds more jucier.
Exactly!! Just gotta think K.I.S.S.(keep it simple, stupid!) And even tho it's simple it's still punchy, powerful, & really rocks
As soon as I heard the click I was like "whao!! That's way too fast for that song!" Then I realized when taking the click away it was also counting the &s, so 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &😂
Well essentially Im pretty sure they make the click 4/8, or vice versa. So basically its 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8, within 1 bar. If that makes sense.
I love worship and here in Brazil we have no play alongs in this musical style. Could you indicate a website to achieve play alongs in this style of music?
Please do a tutorial on guitar on a song Find me - Bethel music
I wanna have my snare sound like this!
Tune it low and dampen
Very low
@@brengeldelacruz8866 It's not tuned very low. PS4 and tuned medium. Most of the fatness comes from the 42 strand snare wires and the big thick head.
tutorial for Reckless Love music please
Hey how can you know when to hit the intro? Because I can't hear the pattern
@WorshipU are those the 30th Anniversary Istabul hi-hats? Interested user.
does he just always play on the back of the beat or is the met ahead? either way great drummer
Playing with the butt of the stick on one hand auto creates automatic dynamic differences between the hands and adds that nice feel to what would otherwise sound mechanical with the constant 1/16s
okay
I tend to always have trouble with the intro...when music starts to build up and then on the drums it goes hats, hats, kick, kick, kick, snare, snare, snare. I know that's a terrible way to explain it thru a message but after that part I tend to get the rest of it pretty solid
can you do Lazarus next?
I wanna know exectly what cymbals are use in this video. Knows anyone what series of Agop and what size used?
16in Istanbul 30th Anniversary Hi-hats
20 or 2in Istanbul Agop Traditional Crash
22 in Istanbul Agop Traditional Dark Crash
24in Istanbul Agop joey Waronker Ride
omg how will i get that snare sound??
Just found this channel. As a new drummer I am in awe of what a resource it will be. Thanks.
Newbie question, but why do you hold the sticks the way you do? (One of them held by the tip end...)
More snare POW. Sometimes this is too much, and wood tip regular way around sounds the best for ride "ping"
Jack Kovar thanks. That makes sense.
Sooo like can you show us how you tune your snare 👀👀🤧
Cristian Pinete top head loose bottom head tight.
Not a church drummer but that snare tho.. considerably ph4t.
Hey, is it craviotto drums you use in this video?
Daniel Foster it's a truth drum kit
Nice hi hat
Anyone know the all cymbals and sizes? Along with the snare used?
As a drummer of 15 years it sounds like a Ludwig Black Beauty 14x8 snare
Como le hace para que la tarola suene así?
Hi where can we get the backing track with the click?
You can get at multitracks.com
Or LOOPCOMMUNITY
Which sticks do you use?
What mics he is using??
I see that you're using an RE20 on the floor. What mics are you using on the snare and tom 1?
Looks like Shure 545's
Which kit he uses?
David somewhat reminds me of Toby from The Office 😄
Michael Dutcher have you met David or seen the office? lol they're nothing alike
@Justys Frank I don’t even remember writing this comment 😂 but I agree now
@@DGodsell 4 years later, haha.
muito louco
So whats the normal speed?
quick question why do you use the back end of the stick for the snare?
Jaime Morales ^^^
Jaime Morales
When I was in Davids drum lessons at WorshipU, he and Bethel's sound engineer Chris Greely said that it gives the snare a bit of a beefier and more balanced tone than using the skinnier tip of the stick. I personally do it and I've noticed a huge difference in snare tone. Hope that helps!
Yeah you can def' hear it when he alternates between left and right on the 16ths.
CHRIS GREELY WAS AT THAT SESSION?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Owen Assman haha not at the same session. David said it in one of his drum lessons and I was talking drums /guitar with Chris and Michael Pope at school the one day!
This song is so hard to place it perfect in the pocket i notice even David had slight issues in a few places
snare tuning please? :)
Are you using any trigger for the snare drum?
officialworshipdrummer.tumblr.com/post/139458305510/for-all-those-who-need-that-bethel-snare-sound
or you just tune it like you want and throw a Big Fat Snare Drum on it.
exelente.... q set de platillos usas?
Jonathan Lag promark
Istanbul traditional Jonathan Lag Promark una verdadera belleza!
16" Istanbul 30th Anniversary Hi-Hats
22" Istanbul Agop Traditional Dark Crash
24" Istanbul Agop Traditional Dark Crash
24" Istanbul Joey Waronker Signature Ride
So what's the tempo?
How do you get that snare drum sound
x2 hahaha
Sam Jenner bottom is loose and the top is tight I think?
They use samples by Paul Mabury www.iwantthatsound.com/product/paul-mabury-signature-drum-sounds/
The bottom head is super tight for sensitivity, the top is very very very loose. Just past finger tight. Use a Remo O ring to control the overtones. Also having a 14x8 snare really helps
They definitely don't use samples. That's a real snare sound
That’s how all snares should sound...
7:53-8:12 No tom section? Missed Fill?! That's why live versions of the song are so much better!
I hope you realize that there isn't just one drummer who plays everything. Bethel usually has another drummer playing bigger floor toms and auxiliary. Also that fill you're talking about requires three different tom pitches but his setup only has two. So...he technically didn't miss the fill. :)
Totally aware of this. And there is a fill he missed going into the instrumental section before the last chorus, it's on the original version. But whatever, to each his/her own.
yeah idk maybe hes trying to make this tutorial as simple as possible
@Nicholas Kayban as your opinion is irrevelant to me.
why does he hold one stick backward?
More attack on the snare. Mike Portnoy does the same thing.
Why is one stick the right way up and the other is upside down
It gives the snare a more fat and warm tone
Live Sunday Worship venicelion.com/nh/music2018/nh-9-23-2018/The_Lion_and_the_Lamb.mp3 my interpretation or what I threw in to the song. ha ha. I post Sunday Worship songs at VeniceLion.com/nh I'm working on using double bass pedals now more and more instead of beating on the floor toms. I have a quiet kit 1962 Rogers Holiday Jazz 4 piece (built in Cleveland Ohio and mellow sounding) with 20 inch bass drum and 14 inch floor tom and 12 inch wing tom so toms not loud and it took me 50 years to get the bass drum to sound real good. Holiday toms have built in adjustable mufflers which keeps them mellow. Bass drum using a Remo power stroke 3 got it dialed in finally. Of course like Greg Laurie said "Sheep are stupid", the music is to loud or the music is not loud enough. Thankful to be working with a good crew on guitar, bass, piano that can work it out to back up the singing. Still using the 1962 Rogers power tone snare with adjustable muffler, hidden snare bed, Remo pin stripe head with an addition of a muffler strip of cloth under the head stretched between the two top lugs under the Remo logo. Snare only has 8 lugs.
Is this a lesson for beginning drummers?
Why do you hold your right stick upside down?
Joseph Gonzalez gives the snare that extra "phatness"! Works well in the low tunings.
No it gives it more "attack" Phatness just naturally comes from the snare. Even Mike portnoy uses the same method. Thicker end of the stick + imbalance of the weight = more force moving forward for a heavier attack.
Are there different versions of this song that I don't know about? I ask , because I am listening to Big Daddy Weave and the bass drum groove is not what you are showing here at all.
John Fitzpatrick yes , bethel does a version
Why do you hold one of you sticks backwards with the butt of the stick?
0:48 he's holding one stick upside down
he does that for tone
Austin Cox it doesn’t change anything.
pork yes it does lol
whats the bpm of the click?
90 bpm in eight notes, I believe. So it sounds like 180 clicks per minute. Hope that helps!
Why does he play with one stick backwards
Pings to get a fatter sound from the snare
Playing wayyy behind the click
All about that pocket
Totally agree Hunter..It allows him to bring feel and emotion to the groove! Brilliant I say! :)
I don't know about that...The click is a subdivided click meaning there is twice as many clicks as a normal click would have. So, we are hearing 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and. Most click tracks only have the "regular" clicks on 1, 2, 3, 4.
What nonsense are you saying Ben? John is right. You're either on the click or you're not. There's no in between.
Asaf what nonsense are YOU saying? bahaha Im not even a drummer and I know that there definitely is deviation from being right on top of the click for feel LOL watch this, one minute mark ;) ua-cam.com/video/Yh8PATuI_NU/v-deo.html
Bethel snare > Elevation
Everytime.
bruh his ride is louder than his crashes
Is no one gonna comment about the sticks? It bothers me so much.
he plays with one stick on the butt end to get a fatter sound when he hits his snare. it definitely changes the sound and i love doing it when i play haha
THANK YOU. I thought I was the only one. I can't explain why it bothers me though lol.
Less is more. :)
why is cant he play in time lmao?
bruh
he is doing that on purpose to add energy
Why does it feel like you're behind the click?? Is it on purpose? Also y'all need to stop that edge of the rim stuff lol
jairgonzz yes he's playing on the back end of the click, knowing how to play on the front and back end of a click track is literally one of the greatest skills you can develop as a drummer
I would say that whoever edited the video together didn't line up his drums to the click/track exactly right...you can tell he is consistent, so I think it was an editing issue.
Hard to focus when you're so far behind the click.
Dave is sitting in the pocket, grooving with the song. Allows him to bring feel and emotion to the song. Nothing wrong with it at all! :)
Ben Garnham you’re so wrong
i think it was an editing issue...but idk he seems on time for me
@@isaiahharrison6732 He is NOT on time with the click. He might be exactly the same amount of time behind the click every time, so in that case it would be an editing issue. He is playing in time with himself but not with the click.
