I took part in a couple of concerts in Dumfries and Edinburgh in the early 1980s. My hosts presented me to the Corries and their Live in Scotland album. Have been and still is a huge fan! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this. I was totally unaware of Ronnie and Roy until the Pandemic. I don't know how I could have missed them. They were wonderful and I love their ballads and their beautiful instrumentals. Plenty of history here.
A great comfort and joy me the Corries have been to me over the years they have that ability to go to depth of ones soul and bring that feeling of wonder and joy their will never be another like them
As a New Zealander that my Scots family came here over the 30s and 50s, I was born in NZ although conceived in Canada but things didn't work out so my parents chose to come to NZ to be with my Mums parents and her sisters in 1960. I became aware of the Corries in the late 60s, not sure why other posters don't have a clue until quite recently. Amazes me. How Scots are ya ?
Bloody hell. Remember having to stop up late (9.30 pm ish?) to watch this being screened - was my first week at work at Ravenscraig Steelworks and remember it well . Was shocked to hear of Roys death - having seen them live a few times they were second to none. Keith - many many thanks for posting - I know I still have this on VHS tape, but would be too scared to play it!
After seeing this video of Roy & Ronnie singing Flower of Scotland, Roy looks about 30 years old, so 55 years ago this was filmed. Ronnie and the rest of us all hope that it becomes the anthem for Scotland, perhaps the National Anthem!
It IS the national anthem of Scotland. Unofficial or not. Always will be in my eyes anyways. I'm sure there are plenty who see it as such also 😊❤🏴🏴🏴
Flower of Scotland is beautiful in every version just when I think that I’ve heard my favorite version l hear another one: thank you for sharing these and stirring my heart and soul so often, i listen to each version of recording of Scottish/iu 24:36 that you post many 24:01 times x 11:55 and

Yeah, it's got a dodgy soundtrack too. Old recording quality I'm afraid. Still, you get the drift. Great duo and best regards to you Lidia, from the land of the wild haggis. 🙃
It's not ONE soundtrack. It's a compilation of videos from many places on UA-cam. If the sound isn't good on one, you can search elsewhere. Some people who posted the videos cleaned up the old recordings.
Maybe the best ever version of Flower of Scotland. I just wonder.... 1968... the Beatles had introduced Indian music into western "rock and pop" music. There's no escaping the sitar-like runs all through this fantastic version of the Corries' fantastic song.
I was fortunate enough in either late 1963 or early 1964 to attend a hootenanny (as was wont) at the Waverley Town Hall in Edinburgh, where I first heard the Corrie Folk Trio and Paddie Bell (bless her) and Roy Williamson first performed the Flower of Scotland.. Loved it then.. Not so sure now..that it's become the national anthem.
There are a number of different locations. The Flower of Scotland video (the very first, for TV) was filmed at Ruthven Barracks. The North Sea Shoals video was obviously put together from random film clips that didn't involved The Corries. Most of the scenes from the 1987 A Vision of the Corries TV series were filmed in a BBC studio. A few of them may have been done on location, at Loch Tay or Glencoe, but the BBC cinematography is so good that it's hard to tell. Ronnie's son Gavin, who runs the Corries website can answer such questions.
Im sure one bit was on the road up the side of loch Lomond and it cuts to can't remember exactly but somewhere no where near that but is familiar I'll post when I go back and look, may have been pitlochry or somewhere similar
If I recall right, Ronnie went to Spain and studied guitar there, and returned to Scotland and used a lot of the techniques he learned in his music. I think it adds such a lovely and unique depth to his technique.
Where was the flower of Scotland video shot, tried googling it with no answers, looks familiar, ive done 80 odd munros and the area looks familiar but would like to know the area thanks
Just discovered the Corries, my life much richer for it. Telling all my friends about them. Their music goes through me directly to my heart and soul.
Great lads. May Roy rest in peace, mr Browne live many more years and their people achieve true emancipation.
You have no idea how much this is my comfort music duo
Aye! or 50 years of listening, and Stull lovin ary Tune!
Mine too especially Roy
I think most of us here have an idea 🥰

What a wonderful discovery to get you through the pandemic.
Thanks for the upload.
It took me back to the late seventies, and early eighties in village halls and eden court theatre.

What a song.

It broke my heart when Roy passed but the music lives on❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I really wish we could get a remastered version of this realeased.
Roy Williamson's daughter Karen says in her book about her father "Flower of Scotland" that he eventually felt "trapped by his fame."
Love them they speak inner part of my soul will never be another like them
i have always loved their interpretation of this great song , long life to Ronnie

My dad worked in The Craig long time ago now, electrician in the strip mill or blast furnace can't remember 👍
I love these 2 so much
I wonder if Roy ever dreamed when he wrote Flower of Scotland that it would become the huge anthem it is ttoday.

You wouldn't walk on the A9 like that today.
Does anyone know where the locations that appear in the video are? thank you very much, the Corries are unique, they touch the heart.

The English guitar sounds like a Portuguese guitar, very similar sound

@@DimNussens think you're mixing that up with Ronnie Drew of The Dubliners, who did learn guitar in Spain
@@malinkysteve I think you're right. Big fan of The Dubliners as well, that's probably how it slipped in.
Not sure which title you're referring to, but maybe you mean Roy's combolin, which features a Bandurria keyboard.
@@DimNussensIt was Roy who learned techniques and construction methods which would serve him in the future.

This should be the only way to use the road.
What is the title of the song right after Flower of Scotland?
I think it's bonnet, belt and sword, the title of one or their albums
@@EelkeBalde Thank you!
