- Is the future of deep-sea exploration soft? Researchers have developed a new type of soft robot designed to cope with the crushing pressures at the bottom the ocean. Inspired by the skull of the Mariana Snailfish, the deepest living fish, the researchers distributed their robot's electronics, creating a machine that can withstand extreme pressure.

You totally missed the point. Just like the smartphone made by China. They claim that they developed the technology while the core is actually based on western technology.
Chinese tech firm is responsible for the applications of those technologies. Not developing them.
If it's published on Nature I'm pretty sure it's a novel technology. It's one of the most prestigious scientific journals in the world.
How about in Antarctic waters?
And a safety cable is still an idea. Are you sending a team of these, that come with a tow line in each, like part of a built in rescue/med kit?

Very very long considering vertebrates can't survive on the very bottom, it's bacteria and amphipods mostly.

@Dori Tos this is only the beginning, more like a test and it works really well, the technology used is novel and has never worked at deep sea levels before.

Why not make an enormous one to fit in HD cameras, batteries that can last for weeks and other sensors? Why so small?
This is just the beginning, just wait a few years, maybe it'll be able to do that but at an even smaller size
