My dad had one of these when I was like 10. Headliner was sagging like hell but the car ran like a dream. Since I’m needing a new car I’m thinking about getting one bc I’ve wanted one ever since my dad had his. I always loved it.
Just drove 75 miles to buy one in pretty good condition with a little under 100k miles on it. Paid only $2k. Not sure how this beautiful thing sat on a lot untouched for 2 yrs even with the V8 in it.
@@youtubeblows the v8 version is capable atleast I've seen it push 400hp n/a pretty easy. Weight comparable to an s550 mustang GT of today. Ugly eh that's a personal opinion it's a 90's car.. The v6 on the other hand is underpowered and trash reliability
Great car, I drove it on my holiday for 3 weeks as a rental from Atlanta Airport in the 90's. Through the Smoky Mountains, to Charleston. Being back in Europe driving my small Toyota was so disappointing.
Kyle you just made my day with this! Mercury Cougar is one of my all time favorite cars, I owned two of them. This is such a beautiful car and amazingly well cared for. If I had the money right now and lived in your area I would buy it in a heartbeat. Who ever buys this car I hope they continue to take such good care of it. Great video as always and thank you for being able to find such an amazing looking Cougar to share with us.
I own a 94 Mercury Cougar with the V8 got in an accident over a month ago feels like years I miss driving that car every day it could nearly run out from under you when you floored it.
My grandma had a 2 88 model Cougars and a 93 Cougar. The 93 Cougar was navy blue with blue cloth & leather interior with auto belts. It was a beautiful car.
I just bought this car yesterday from a guy in Florida low miles great condition but the old man's truck broke down (07 avalanche) and he needed to use mine. very good car I really enjoy it. thanks for the in depth review man
This was my first car. Had the exact same one, but in red. It already have 220,000kms when I got it, and I put an additional 100,000 on it before moving along. Was a fantastic car, and that V8 could fly!
The condition of this car is nothing short of breathtaking. It's like the previous owner basically safe-kept the vehicle, and for his effort took the brunt of depreciation. The wonderful and rare interior colour is a pleasant surprise also.
i just subscribed to your channel earlier this month, and i have watched around 800 videos of your cars, you do really great reviews. i live in australia and half these cars are fantastic vehicles that australians dont get :( keep it up kyle!
I drive the '97 Anniversary Edition model with the 4.6L V8. I love the slick body style and the sound of the engine. People tell me it looks like an old man's car, but trust me, it gets up and goes.
The Cougar/Thunderbird are big, heavy vehicles. I own a 96' T-Bird Sport which is an aweome car from which I get many compliments. These cars are not asian rice-burner sardine boxes made of aluminum foil which is basically a paperweight. Cougars/T-Birds are slow off the line due to the weight but are excellent performers for long hauls. Furthermore, these cars are personal luxury coupes, not Mustangs so there will be an obvious difference.
@@hakeemsd70m I just bought a 1996 Ford Thunderbird LX. It still has the sticker on the back windshield that says that it was assembled in Lorain, Ohio. It really makes me think of the all the hard-working folks that worked there. The last Thunderbird rolled off that assembly line September, 4th. 1997. Peace
I actually have one almost exactly like this only mine has the gold stripe at the bottom. Love my car always handles great even since I shut the governor off. New engine personally built myself. Always will love the 96 merc cougar.
I have a Ford Cougar 2000 model two very different cars . I can see why some were turned off by the model I have with it's 2.5 litre v6 . I love my car its just right for me but I do understand why they did not sell as much as Ford wanted . Probably should have been branded a Ford Probe or something else .
I love the dash...Kinda reminds me of the mustang alittle our 05 Taurus kinda reminds me of it to but in all im very impressed......IM a GM guy but the dash, plastics, etc is wearing good on our Taurus very nice quilty the Grand Am we had while a good reliable car the buttons peeled and broke...
Kyle I have an odd request. Sometime you should review a car, then as an entertaining part 2, do the entire review as quickly as possible. I mean like hustle around the vehicle, mash buttons rapidly etc. :)
I have a question about the dash/controls. Between the steering wheel and the radio, there's a little switch, what is it for? Sorry if you explained it in the video, my WiFi is lagged to the point where I can't fully load videos anymore.
Had this exact car...only in silver. That is until I lost control of it on a patch of ice on 1-04-2000 and slid off the highway at about 45-50 mph and stuck a utility pole sideways and destroyed the vehicle. (I only got a few minor cuts from flying glass). Replaced it with a 1999 Monte Carlo Z-34 with beautiful leather interior. It only had GMs 3.8 liter V-6 in it though.
Prob is when u buy a car like this u have 2 continue driving it the way it was not as a daily driver. Found that out the hard way when I bought a 97 TC with only 48K. It was a truly a FORD: fix or repair daily. Still my heart will always remain with the bygone era of personal luxury coupes and luxury land yachts. RIP Mercury u will be missed!
Funny, I was just watching your older video of the 1999 Cougar before I saw this one. If you come across another 1999-2003 Cougar do you think you could do a video of it?
@curtis Ritter look up this video: forensic files convictions overturned plastic fires. The car that is featured in the video is a 1987 cougar interestingly. You will get an idea just how bad ford motor co was in the 80's
If I ever get one I will. I've only raced two. One was a fox 5.slow at a 40 roll and the other was a pre new edge 4.6. at a 20 roll. I dont know if it was auto or manual. I dont have alot of money. Its hard to set up races that arent from a dig. I'd love a go pro to record races and for my mountain biking but I have other priorities than a video camera. Like a new cam tensioner or new mtb fork.
No... there is still a reverse light behind it. It is just tinted. I think that might be a way to tell V8 and V6 Cougars apart as this V8 model has the red tinted light on the right and my V6 model has the red tinted light on the left.
i miss my 96 Mercury cougar so Damm much i going thru a nasty Divorce over 50000 miles i had to let it go back pissed off at that time copper color nice
Especially in this condition and low mileage. 35,000+ original documented miles. Just wow. Most Cougars of this generation are either trashed or have too many miles.
I own a 1994 XR7, best car I've owned, coming from a Lexus LS, the v8 205hp is not the whole story' anyone who know cars it's torque' the cars a beast, I found mine while looking for a Lexus SC 400' too overpriced and previous owners were sloppy, the XR7 had Low km mint in and out,
@EduWestCoastRap The car's condition clearly contradict your statement. Did you see how clean the car even from bellow? It's like new, or at the most 1-3 yrs. old.

Asking too much probably lol
Because they’re ugly, underpowered, undesirable to name a few reasons.

ford shouldve made this with the dohc 4.6 from the svt cobras now THAT wouldve been a CAR

I would agree that this car beats the thunderbird.
Magnificent automobile, wish I could get one in this condition, thanks for posting this

Cam and heads will do the trick
Best Car Ever
I always did like how the interior of these Cougars flowed. Reminds me a lot of the Oldsmobile Aurora & the Buick Riviera interiors. 👍🏿
My grandma had a 2 88 model Cougars and a 93 Cougar. The 93 Cougar was navy blue with blue cloth & leather interior with auto belts. It was a beautiful car.

anthony phillips woe you still has it?
I’ve got a 85 Cougar brand new back in 85. Still runs smooth. Love my big cat!
I own a 95 mercury cougar with the big 4.6 and let me tell you it’s an amazing car it out lives most of my families newer cars. Love that car so much

Clean car and low miles. It will be sold by this weekend, Kyle. Very Nice!
it was like a slick luxury car

Nicest Cougar yet! Looks brand new inside & out. Interior goes perfect with the cream exterior paint. I'd drive this in a heartbeat!
Man I remember my uncle had one of these Cougars. Really nice cars! 👍🏿
I had a 95 high end model with the 4.6, leather, sunroof and all the bells and whistles I loved it want another one
Fantastic walk throughs!! The best!
That thing is in amazing, mint condition. Whoever bought it was lucky :-)

the Ford ThunderCougarFalconBird!
the 1989-1997 Mercury Cougar was assembled in
United States: Lorain, Ohio

Wow U learn something everyday. That’s my hometown right there.✌🏿
You should start a museum for low-mile cars, looks like you got a good start with the Couger and the Caprice.
I actually have one almost exactly like this only mine has the gold stripe at the bottom. Love my car always handles great even since I shut the governor off. New engine personally built myself. Always will love the 96 merc cougar.
I had a 94 cougar XR7 with the 4.6. She had 280000 miles on her when I finally sold her. She still ran great.
Just got a 1996 Cougar XR7 V6 today with 20,300 miles on it!
the transmission on the 1989-1997 Mercury Cougar
Transmission
4-speed AOD or 4R70W automatic
5-speed manual M5R2(1989-90)
Nice Roadmaster wagon in the background at 3:00
Caught my eye too.
Great small car with an economical V8. Would prefer the older one with the 5.0 though (1994 and earlier?).
right on this the counterpart to the 90's T-Bird you did a while back
Those seat designs are pretty nice.
Love those gauges! That V8 sounds fantastic.
We have one almost just like this , but ours is blue never wrecked with the v6 only 80k miles these are very comfy cars.
I have a ‘95 4.6 V8 and I’m in love with it. Mine has a couple more options than this one, but this is still a beautiful car.
i like how the rear windshield ends in a 90 degree angle, looks original
Had the one with the tan leather interior same white outside though... I think the tan was nicer lookin
I have 170 thousand miles on mine and its runs great!!
and these cars ride amazing

I just bought one for $2000, best first car ever!
Kyle I have an odd request. Sometime you should review a car, then as an entertaining part 2, do the entire review as quickly as possible. I mean like hustle around the vehicle, mash buttons rapidly etc. :)
looks way better than that thunderbird you did a while back
Yes yes yes! I see a mid 1998-2002 Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car! =D
I have a question about the dash/controls. Between the steering wheel and the radio, there's a little switch, what is it for? Sorry if you explained it in the video, my WiFi is lagged to the point where I can't fully load videos anymore.
Austin Hancock rear defrost better late than never.
@buickboy92 Yes these are RWD....the FWD Cougars were the 1999-2002 Years.

One of the most reliable American cars of all time. Just check the reviews and repairs are inexpensive. My next one will be a V8. This one is perfect.

kyle do short takes of alot of the cars at ur parents dealer plz? like the escalade and the grand marquis?
i have the v6 version of this car and i love it
you could add 2 more speakers in the rear window mine had a amp/sub-woofer module
very nice vid. thanks

yes yes yes I have a 94 cougar v8 ahhh I love itt
you are luky were you live... in quebec (canada), the cars comes fuly rusted after only 6 or 7 years with the salt in the road... nice review!

when did they stop putting the supercharged 3.8 in these?
i want some of these older cars
@saabkyle04 can you make video for kia sernto 2011 and optima

Tyler Johnson extremely!
Dang thats a fast window!
Anyway you could find a 1984-1986 Cougar and do a review?
The Cougar should have gotten the 4.6 Liter Intech used in the Similar Lincoln Mark VIII.
did these models have superchargers in them I know the 90-93 models do but the engine does not look like it has a supercharger
Joseph Andrews those were the thunderbird super coupes and that was a 3.6 v6 supercharged
The cougar is a very nice car i own one its a nice car
