Even as a Penn Stater I must admit. This Ohio State was the definition of Never Say Die. Every time that team faced a daunting situation, they came out of it victorious. When they made that statement against Washington State at home, the feeling was, they're back and Tressel has those guys locked in. That narrative was true all season long. When they faced Purdue and Michigan, it seemed like all of their good karma had been used up, but it came to show you what a difference that experience and mental toughness can do for a team. Then came the ultimate challenge. Facing a Miami team in the Fiesta Bowl that had cruised to the National Championship the year before, and had blown out almost every team they faced in 02. Many people had the Hurricanes as a lock for a championship, but if you watched College Football that season very closely, you would understand that Ohio State no matter who their opponent was, was going to be up for the challenge. And that night they were. Yes I do think Miami got screwed but that game said less about them and more about the Bucks. Any time you win a National Championship especially the way that Ohio State team did, it makes the feeling of victory that much sweeter. Much respect.
I started watching in Tressel's first year when I was 11. I remember my dad instilling the tradition of Ohio State football into me. When coach Tressel made good on his promise that we would be proud of our team in Ann Arbor, MI we knew we had something special. Then to see them have the most epic season of all time in 2002 and beating a juggernaut at the time for the title was so euphoric. It was not a team full of blue chippers and 5 stars. Just a team that bought in as a unit and beat the snot out of anyone in there path. the 02 is my favorite of all time and they were a good representation of America in the freshly post 9/11 world. Go Bucks
Coach Tressell was a great coach and person. GO BUCKS !!! checkout my youtube channel BUCKEYE VINNIE, please watch my videos and sub to my channel thanks.
He lied to the NCAA as a Buckeye fan myself that was disappointing I held Tressel to a higher standard of character then Urban Myer never liked Urban as a man but I did Tressel.
This was the first and only time i saw the Buckeyes play in person. Great game and living in Ann Arbor at the time made it even better. Tressel for life! He started 2 decades of dominance! The first item on my bucket list is to see a game from Ohio Stadium.
I love the 2002 team so much. Such an easy team to root for. It wasn’t Ohio State’s most talented team. Old school Big Ten. Run the ball, play great and clutch defense, and a sound kicking game.
FSU Seminole here and I was going for the buckeyes all the way..I had bought me an buckeye hoodie and I was dialed in about to lose my fucking mind watching this game..everybody thought that I was crazy for think that ohio state was going to win..but when Maurice stole that ball from Sean Taylor it was over for me...go buckeyes..
That was truly a great defense, and best play ever by claret. Ohio Stare has always had the talent. But talent and development them is tough to do over time. SEC fans riding the coat tails of Bama, and all think they are the next Bama if they win one big game. They never ever lose because they are t the best team. They just weren’t motivated. When a team from another conference wins, it’s they never give credit. It’s always “well their built links an SEC team” They say no excuses, one call doesn’t change a game, or one player doesn’t change a game, but if they lose a player,” or questionable call they cry and just use every excuse possible. They tried preaching being classy, but were complete ass hats. They play victim because people don’t like them, but they are the reason. They always fall back to playing victim. It’s amazing how big of an ego SEC fans have. It’s sad they say like we or we’re the best, but never did anything close to help that team. But I’ll be honest, I hate fans. Not so much them but the constant double standards and egos. It really ruined college football for me, and the officiating across the nfl and ncaa just seems to keep getting worse.
I was 12 during this season, but I will NEVER forget the national championship game. This team really fought with all they had, and faced the odds in stride. GO BUCKS!!
I watched Coach Tressel win 2 National Championships at Youngstown State on CBS. When you break it down Youngstown was a high school bedlam for talent. They had 2 schools who were state football powers and multiple schools who made the state playoffs. When he came to OSU all the state high school powers looked to Columbus for opportunity. 3 National Championship appearances. Big 10 championships. O-H!☺
I was a young kid but I will always remember seeing Maurice Clarett play in the Rubber Bowl in Akron Ohio I was 11. Warren Harding played Saint Ignatius High School and ill never forget him running for 60 yards towards the end zone we were in he was heading towards us he wasn't even touched..Damn what could have been he was so special he was the phenomenon before Lebron took over that winter!
I was at the game kept running him up the middle & iggy had all state LB played at Indiana then Ohio state everytime they ran Claret off tackle & tosses & sweeps he went for big yards
Since I'm going to play NCAA Football 2003 on the original Xbox (due to the fact I got a new one while my other one won't power on anymore) for the 2016 NCAA Division 1-A football season, I'm going to play as Ohio State University for season mode due to the fact they were the National Champions that year.

i love how this always comes down to well the PI call was bs. First off, there was definitely a flag on the play, pick your poison its a first and goal half the distance any way you slice it. Secondly, nobody talks about the catch that should've counted and the game ends much less impactful 17-14. We were the better team and Miami was not, literally when they overlooked us, their confidence was their downfall. PERIOD

Not to mention Gamble caught a pass in bounds that if called correctly Buckeyes kneel in victory formation at the end of regulation.
