Hi, depending on how confident you are in climbing , which route you are taking and if you are climbing with someone else.the route we took its not hard at all you dont need a guide , but make sure you check the weather forecast because it can change pretty quickly. it is a very nice climb on a good day - if you can also try not to go on a weekend because its too crowded and you will be stuck on the way up
Thank you! I am considering the normal route with an overnight stop at Erzherzog-Johann hut , was this the same route you took? Are there any dangers of cravasses in the ice when following this route? Thanks!
yep we took the same route , there is not a reall danger if you stick to the route that everyone is using , make sure you dont step out from the path and you'll be good

Hi there, my b-day is near, i'm thinking of climbing this either on 20th of june or near end of july solo, what gear do i need to summit this mountain alone? and how long does it take? i'm in a good physical and mental shape and i ain't afraid to do it alone, but i would like to know as much as possible before i attempt to climb to make my journey as fluid as possible, would rly appreciate if you would suggest something or would give some tips, i was going to climb montblanc, but it's only near year, this would be my peak before montblanc :)
Hi Raulis, If you are thinking to climb it solo make sure you check the weather forecast because it can change in a second, thats what happened to us , from a very sunny and good weather to a freezing cold windy and really foggy. There is always a path on the glacier from people climbing so its pretty safe but just move with persuasion and be sure that you can see the path in front of you and watch for crevasse. Than after the hut there is no glacier but it is pretty steep, so you will need ice crampons, ice axe and bring with you at least 30 meters rope just in case you need to abseil some steep parts . also choose a day that its not a weekend because it is very very busy. You will also need the normal gear for high altitude climbing clothes again for the weather change. if i can help you with any other info please let me know
