Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 vs Classic | Hands-On Review with Wear OS 3.0 Smartwatches

- The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and the more premium Classic smartwatch have just launched and this hands-on review compares the specs, design & features. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is significantly more expensive vs the original, but is it worth that price? Includes a full tour of the new Wear OS 3.0 'Powered by Samsung', fresh for 2021 - a hybrid of Google's smartwatch OS and Tizen.

Galaxy Watch 4 Classic: shop-links.co/174963312165273...
The vanilla version is smaller with a 1.2-inch screen and 40 or 44mm flavours. Meanwhile that more expensive Classic model comes in 42 or 46mm and boasts a 1.4-inch display. Both Sammy devices rock a crisp Super AMOLED panel, plus speaker and mic for taking/placing calls and using Bixby.
You get a rotating bexel on the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic for navigating those Wear OS 3.0 menus. Google Play can be used to download fresh apps, while NFC allows Samsung Pay to take you contactless. And as my hands-on review shows, all the major features from Tizen etc are present and correct.
Hoping to bring you an in-depth video soon!

Hello! Thanks for watching my hands-on with the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 duo. Hoping to bring you a proper full review soon, and a quick heads up - apparently the Always On Display only kicks in when the watch detects it's being worn (so will deactivate if you take off at night etc). Makes sense!
How about wrist gestures for notifications like on wear os? or just notification dot like tizen? Thanks
I remember seeing in Unpacked the standard Watch4 having a virtual rotating bezel?
@@22oreos It does, I think he wasn't aware of it.
@@22oreos It is the same as the one on Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2....
@@Garro0 I've had both watches and wrist gestures is sure nice to have and not have to use both hands to check notification. especially if hands are dirty or gloves while working

Ouch😂😂😂
Lol 😂😂😂
It's as if Samsung knew I was debating on whether to get a Samsung watch or a WearOS watch. Glad to see them give me both
Just yesterday I was looking at a watch 3, that night I saw the 4 and decided it was a signe lol
Bought Fossil gen 5 late last year smh
Exactly! A few months ago when I heard Samsung and Google were collaborating I knew the debating was over and I'd get the best of both worlds.

6:21 its not a bug. If you put it on your wrist, then it detects the it and turns on always on display. This is a battery conservation feature, if you put it on your bedside table, the display turns off as there is no need for always on display then.
Yep all galaxy watches does that. its good.
I mean there's a need as a bedside clock instead of having to turn the screen on. It makes more sense to have always on display when it's notnon your wrist , so you could easily check the time
@@skinaddiction4852 It turns into a bedside clock if you put it on the dock. or wireless charger.
Or even a power button
@@umersalman1 the screen only remains on when on your wrist. My GW1 turns off when on the charging cradle
Small correction: you can actually choose between the 1.2 and 1.4 inch screens for either the standard or classic models. (So, four total options.) The standard model has a 40mm size with the 1.2 inch screen and a 44mm size with the 1.4 inch screen. The classic model has a 42mm size with the 1.2 inch screen and a 46mm size with the 1.4 inch screen. Both 1.2 screens are the same, with a 396x396 resolution, and both 1.4 screens are the same with a 450x450 resolution. Hope this helps.

Finally someone reviews the watches!! Out of ten UA-cam creators, you're the only one to go in depth
I pre-ordered the 44mm watch4 yesterday, got a $50 free credit for the new buds2. Im so excited and cant wait for their arrival. Thank you Uncle Sammy 😊
Mate - your presentation style is easily the best for this stuff. Totally dodged Verge and Linus to hear you say the word 'spurt' in the opening sentence. Job well done.
You mean LTT?
Man, I watched the verge one and I just can't stand Dieter. He's so punchable.
Came here directly after seeing the watch in unpacked!
Ha, thanks for dropping by 😁
I may buy this watch especially for the blood pressure and ECG modes, as I have high blood pressure it's handy to keep an eye on it. Good video mate
6:20 aod kicks in when watch is on the hand.
Even my Gear S3 has this feature, so well done for highlighting this.
You need to wear the watch to get always on display to work!
Very true.
Aha, that explains that one then! Cheers for the heads up!

Great UK review & showing virtually all the settings menu, cheers. Hope you can do a size comparison with the Fossil Gen 5 once the Samsung watch 4 is released?
It must feel odd, actually attending an event.
I still use my Gear S3 Frontier, I love it. Almost 5 years old!
I have it too. It works great still. It's fast and battery lasts me all day.
Love this guy and his sense of humour 😁👍
I wonder if there's soundcloud for these ?
YEA I put in my bid is aldry, waiting patiently for arrival day, thks for your run down on the sgw 4 classic, great info that I needed. Pricy but worth it coming from sg watch is a great upgrade for me now
The regular one has a pretty huge bezel. The classic appears to have the same large bezel but they cover it with that inner overlapping ring. Wondering how they use standard bands when they curve around the watch? Standard bands I know are straight cut at the end.
True, that is where I like the look of the Apple watches how they make it look like bezel less even thought the have bezel with the curved screen.
Hi, what is the size of that galaxy classic watch 4 on your hand , 42mm or 46mm? and what watch band size are you using S/M or M/L? Thanks.
i Think its a 46mm.
Great review as always just need to decide which one to get now. I do like the moving bezel though.
Thank you for a Thorough Comparison of these 2 devices. You More than earned a "Thumbs-up." And I subscribed. Bravo 👏
I paused your video & order 2 of them 46 mm black and silver 🤑🤷🏾♂️
The random jokes/funny comments were great, love this style of review.
Love watching your videos, your side comments make me laugh almost all the time :) I miss hearing that british humor after leaving London 10 years ago :( and the most important is that you don't waste time with a slow review, but get the job done fast and effective. Thank you for this!
Good to see you outside!
BEST FIRST LOOK ON UA-cam!!!! CHEERS MATE!!!!!!! Been super excited about the watch 4, as I consider upgrading from the 2018 Galaxy Watch ⌚ 😀
Same watch unfortunately
I bought a Samsung Gear Classic two years ago. I enjoyed using it. About two months ago the battery started to run down quickly, the watch started to behave badly, functions not working correctly and lately the Home key not functioning at all. I would buy another Samsung watch but this time keep the receipt and warranty card. I would expect better from an expensive watch.
That classic looks amazing indeed. Definitely looking into it and some proper full preview.s
This is the best review of the galaxy watch I have ever seen. I love the humor, and the fact that you also show when there is something wrong, instead of just hiding it in the editing room 😉
I just subscribed, and liked, so keep up the good work 😁👍

I can't emphasizes how excited I am to get my hands in these boys after a month of release, I wanna make sure I like it after the bug fixes
They are Samsung
Was hoping for the 4 days battery life I get on my Galaxy Watch with light use. Will wait and see what real use tests say about it. Thanks for the review though, it's looking pretty promising.
Yeah - I'm with you Alan - Will wait and see what real users say the battery life does.
Honestly, the real world tests will be the deciding factor for me and it'll also help me decide whether I get a Fold or a Flip lol.
I think this one's around 40 hours. I expected more ngl
@@OXIR Honestly doesn't bother me. I'm one of those people that charge my electronics overnight no matter what.
Is Samsung wise to go back to Wear OS? Will we suffer from the poor battery life?
I'm tempted... truth be told I've been tempted by a smart watch for a couple of years now. I almost know I will be underwhelmed by it when/if I actually get one though! I like the looks of the Classic, however I think I'm going to hold out for whatever the next ticwatch might be, I really like their dual screen approach.
Great depth of the feature coverage and amazing commentary. Loads of giggles included, thanks chap!
Definitely tempted, but I'm addicted/stuck in the Fitbit ecosystem, so it would be nice to see whether the Wear OS3 side of Samsung's watch such as the Play Store would allow a Fitbit app or sync of sorts.
That's what I need..fitbit integration and I'm in
I want to shift to Fitbit ecosystem. Why do you think it's so good ?
I have friends on their that I do challenges with, then there is the historical data.
@@sampheonix it's mainly that's where my historical data is stored, such as weight losses, past sleeps, exercise, and average BPM, and past VO2 Max scorings, and so moving would be painful. I also have a few friends added on there to do challenges like Weekend Warrior steps, and the like. Plus the battery life has generally always been good. Lastly, any Fitbit design has always been health and fitness firstmost, before smart watch features. So the interface is better for fitness enthusiasts at expensevof being a janky smartwatch experience.
I think I might get something like this because it looks miles ahead of anything Fitbit has produced, but it's ultimately down whether I can get a Samsung watch can allow me to either migrate or copy my data over to Fitbit so I can continue to make my transition less painful.
Frustratingly, no tech journalists seem to be seeking to ask either Samsung, Google, nor Fitbit these questions. Time might tell though. And if not, I might have to wait for Fitbits own answer to this watch.
I have fitbit scales and a Samsung watch. I use an app called 'fit and healthy' which syncs my scales data over to samsung health.
We all forget how to drink water from time to time 🤷🏻♀️
Just learned something new on my Galaxy Watch 3, the torch brightness using the bezel
couldnt resist ...placed my order for the 46mm classic :)
is the aod brighter compared to the watch 3?
Very informative video, best part 7:52.
😂😂😂
Refreshing to get an actual review on the Galaxy watch and not just a "this is not the apple watch" review
👍
When you do the review I'd definitely like to here about any and all functions it might lose being connected anything but a Samsung phone. I'm more leaning towards a pixel 5 for the form factor but want a watch 4 classic
Definitely a great smartwatch! Body analysis is a really cool feature! However this minor battery life (and charge speed) upgrade is unfortunately not enough to get me away from Garmin! At least 48 h, including 4h activities tracking, always on, sleep tracking & some smartwatch usage would be great! It seems we re still far from there!
Hi, which garmin is it you're talking about and which garmin would you recommend ? Thanks in advance!
@@kylestoutzBCF have the Fenix 7X... It can do 7 to 9 days even with heavy usage... Cannot recommend it unless you're really big time into sports, due to the high price... Huawei GT3 Pro is, at the moment, a very good compromise... Quality materials, more compatibility and lower price than the Garmin and still can do 3 to 4 days....
@@rdnax5775562 7 to 9 days is insane! Thanks man. I'll rather cough out the money for something thats decent. Thank you!
I was so tempted to get the 46mm classic but it was too big and the 42mm looked to small. I decided to go for the 44mm, which will have the same battery life at 46mm but its slightly smaller and thinner. 46mm is advertised as unisex watch but really it should be a men watch, I can't see any female wearing that size unless you have a bigger wrist or don't mind wearing such bulky watch. But went with the normal, 44mm Black version, Smaller, lighter.
bro if i use almost 12 hours daily colour always on display on watch 4 and most feathers include heart rate, strees, sleep monitor, gps and other such feathers off then how many days my battery will last on watch 4??
@@waqasrf20 how many hours rather... maximum 1 day
Nicely done bro. Like your vid for sure. First time btw. I like both watches but I'm gonna buy the classic version
Awesome video I always enjoy your videos cheers
Bought the US version 4 classic. Great looking/feeling watch. However returned it. The step counter is very much inaccurate, which in turn is used calculate calories burned so that''s wrong too. While driving and noticed it was counting steps. All you have to do is raise your arm from your waist to chest fast an it will count steps. I have less costly Amazfit GTR 2(Zepp) that is far more accurate which I use to compare watches to. Both Samsung and Apple (S5/S6) are inaccurate when tracking fitness. If you want it to tell the time, make calls, get notification, text and use apps...this is for you...just don't rely on the fitness features(which is what I want).
I just got done watching the whole video, but when you're talking about the speaker you didn't happen to say if both of them have it? Do they both also have mics for taking phone calls? Great video as always mate
They both suppose to have mics .... I'm pretty sure it does
having a speaker and mic have been a staple for every galaxy watch, so pretty sure the new one has it too.
@@hobbitpsi Actually not true - the Active and Active 2 did not have speakers. I've had the Active, the Active 2, and now the Watch 3, and of the three, only the Watch 3 has a speaker. I've actually just spent the best part of half an hour online to Samsung's Chat, and although the support guy told me (eventually - took him over 10 mins to find the answer!) that both the Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic do have speakers, he couldn't send me a link to the specs to prove it. It's not anywhere on their website, either!
@@helenheath3706 My girl has the active 2. She's the one who actually showed me that it has speakers and can play music she stored on it on the watch alone.
@@hobbitpsi Hmm that's odd - are you in the UK? Perhaps it's a country difference
Can't wait to see your review on xiaomi mi pad! So far you're the best reviewer for smart tech ✨👌👍🏼
Can't wait for a comparison with other watches
I still have my Gear S3 Frontier. It might be time to update. I'll get the classic because of the rotating bezel.
I am in the same boat. Waiting to see a few more pov's from reviews before hitting that pre-order button.
Ahh, a true classic! Yeah, the bezel is a huge selling point of the bigger model. So satisfying to use.
I'm still using my Frontier because of the MST payment tech. I wish they would bring that back. It's rare I find a place that I can't pay with this watch.
The watch 4 also has the that feature, it isn't mechanical but you can operate it using the black bezel around the display. The same tech used in watch active 2!
Same here
Which size you are wearing in review?
I bought a galaxy watch active 2 second hand but in mint condition for £120 on ebay a few weeks ago (the charging wire still had the carboard tabs and plastic on!). There is not enough new stuff going on here to warrant an upgrade I don't think. These do look good though and would have been tempted if not for my bargain on the older model. Good review as always :)
Great review! Just got mine today:)
Is google assistant available on the watch, or it’s just Bixby?
Apparently not at launch, but may possibly come later. I would bet it would.
@@lendios764 As long as it had the option to use google pay on it by feault, that would be nice. Samsung pay is horrible.
@@hobbitpsi I actually prefer samsung pay over google pay, especially with the samsung curve card we have now.
However, Google pay is on the watch from default as well.
What do you dislike about samsung pay vs google pay?
@@lendios764 I don't know tbh. I can't explain it but samsung pay feels slower to load up and use than google pay.

What size watches were you showing in the video?
yes, please what are the watch sizes and what are watch band sizes?
If I understand correctly, will the Watch Classic line get the bigger battery and the Watch line the smaller battery? Or is the battery capacity depending on the sizes of the watches?
It's tied to size. Each watch has a small and a large, and the large version of each also has a larger battery.
@@JamesBloomfield93 thats unfortunate... I know for sure that he said that the Classic line comes with the bigger battery. Since I really care about battery life and have sort of small wrists, I'll have to try the 46mm before buying it. We have a store in The Netherlands called MediaMarkt where you can try (almost) every device that they have in stock. So if I'm able to get acces to a watch that is around 45/46mm in size to try I can come to a conclusion! :)

Digging deeper, some of the use cases are only available if you are paired to a Samsung phone. That might be problematic?
like which ? If you're using it with other android phones, you need to install the samsung apps to get all the features working, like samsung health, gallery etc.
ECG only available with Samsung watch - which is a bummer.

How chunky does the 46mm classic feel. I want that one but I would want to use it everyday, including exercise as well.
This. I think it looks better but I don't want to sacrifice any gym and exercise performance.
I have the original Galaxy watch which is that size and if you're a small wrist person then it'll be pretty damn big. But if you're a big wrist person then it's still kinda big but looks like a premium watch.

They will patch it in
@@defyg3 According to the Verge Samsung says there's no commitment to that "Samsung tells me Google Assistant won’t be available at launch, and it’s an open question whether it’ll arrive at a later date."
Samsung always do great with design, and UI. They always seem to fall below the mark in functionality. Will be interesting how well the fitness features match up to the Garmin and Apple watches.
watch3 fitness I find to be excellent, as far apple.... batrery life is horrendous
Thanks for the review of the classic.. it was the other I was bothered about.
Aside from the physically rotating bezel.. they are literally exactly the same. Just the same haptic feedback rotation as you get on the actives. There's no need to see both

Still no competition with my tic watch pro3 gps
Really like the design of the standard Galaxy Watch 4….features are all very similar to previous models though? Not arsed about Samsung Pay or Bixby…in fact it’s ‘Ok Google’ and Google Pay along with the Samsung design that would be appealing. As long as these can be applied as standard then I’m on board 👍🏼
Thanks for a nice video. Delicious watch. Can you see your calendar information fixed on the screen as on the apple watch?

Buena review. Voy a comprar el Watch de 40 mm. Saludos desde Perú.
what size are the straps for the 40mm watch 4 as it is not displayed anywhere on the Samsung website, in fact the details are extremely limited?
You had me until you said "Bixby assistant"
Haha, I mean, I'm no Bixby fan either, but maybe it's better here on Wear OS 3.0. Probably not, but I'll reserve judgement all the same...
Who would really accept / reject calls with actions on the watch in public? :D @7:50 What were samsung thinking !!
🤦♂️
True. When someone is alone, few can happily do that but not at all in public.
For me its convenient incase I charge my phone while working... I can go and take my phone immediately and reject if Im busy with work
I would look forward to denying calls this way. LOL
I currently own the original samsung galaxy watch with the rotating bezel, it seems to me that the biggest update is definitely wear os 3 being implemented but in terms of hardware the upgrade has negatively impacted the battery life
Which is a reoccurring theme with the Watch 6 series apparently
Definitely ordered mine. Got the series 4 44mm in green with s black band to to have something away from the norm.
It is just me or it looks smoother than latest Tizen watches?
looks pretty much same, UI and design and smoothness. Have Active 2 and no lag at all. Not much of an upgrade over active 2 which also has ECG and BP. Only difference is the BIA sensor for watch4 which I could careless. WearOS is not really a difference maker for me, but if google assistant could be used instead, that would be a good upgrade.

Here in less than an hour baby!
"Laughs Like KSI"
Thanks for showing these early on! Do you know if these will actually work with all Android devices? My main gripes with the previous models were that they would only work with a very limited selection of Samsung phones, no tablet support whatsoever, and the very limited battery life (which they still haven't fixed apparently).
yes I want to know
Hey! AOD functions works only when you're wearing the watch because the sensor on the back of the watch detects your heart rate and knows you wearing it! So it's not a bug how you said in the video!! I have same function on my 2018 galaxy watch..
Battery life is a let down. Why can't they make the watch 1 or 2mm thicker just to increase the battery capacity. 1 or 2mm won't make much difference visually.
I think it's because a 1 or 2mm increase in size won't increase battery size significantly.
Yeah, sadly the battery life is still a total nogo for me. Watch 3 and Watch 4 classic look great and are technically impressive, i really wanted one of these, but with my Amazfit GTR i get 7 to 14 days easily. With fitnes tracking, some GPS, heart rate etc. To even think that with a Galaxy Watch, a premium watch, i have to recharge it daily is unbelievable for me. Since people buy these Samsung watches (and apple too) for the ridiculous prices with terrible battery performance Samsung doesn't need to improve.
Better than Apple Watch, yet cheaper. I still regret buying my Apple Watch 6.
Watch 4 will not work with iPhone anyway. ;)
With Wear's track record... My confidence in the bugs being resolved are low :D I'd love to see if the assistant finally works well with all features. :D
Great review but no mention of a internal speaker. Does it have a speaker built in or bluetooth only
