Love Fleetwood Mac and Stevie! Awesome band! One time someone came up to me and asked, "Are you Stevie from Fleetwood Mac?!?" I cracked up laughing. But, walked away feeling flattered. There's no one else like Stevie!!!
I love this performance, she completely knocked it out of the park and beyond. It's raw, it's real and it's completely mesmerizing. I recently read in a book titled "Gold Dust Woman" that this was her very first time on tv.....ever. I think she did an incredible performance and left people awestruck. I watched the original episode of Midnight Special and said to myself, I absolutely have to see this band. I saw them in 1976 for the first time, and have gone to almost every show in my area ever since. One thing I will say is that almost every Rhiannon is different live. I also have to add that when she says "All the same, all the same, it's all the same", I believe that she is talking about herself and her connection to Rhiannon and the character she has created. Thanks for this fantastic video!!!
Stevie Nicks is one of the few singers "in my opinion" that can get away with mostly singing in her chest voice. She does use her head voice once in a while but I think only when she feels the need. Mostly she's in chest voice.
Knowing what we do about that era, sure, she’s probably high. But I think her bangs and their shadow make her look more “affected” than she is. I think this is more just her stage presence. That, and Stevie is a beautiful goddess with the voice of angels, and thus, can do no wrong in my eyes. 😜
I don’t care what anyone says about Stevie nicks.... she’s such an inspiration to me, and she’s done so much for a lot of people like her music kept me sane 💯 she’s the best singer I know.
@@kentamplin thank you and I’ve been having problems with my voice 😂 with my singing I’m not sure if it’s really raspy or not, cuz when I sing it’s raspy but then it goes away but it’s still there but there’s not as much as there was before if I explained that correctly
Absolutely a gorgeous woman! She stated in a interview that Rhiannon was not about a Welsh witch. She still has it today, and just as just as pretty. Beautiful storyteller!
I found it funny that you didn't like that part that you say that was a killer, I really really love this part and repeat that one over and over again.
All that drama doesn’t matter to me. I bet the greatest songs were written and sung by those on drugs. The music is what matters. Stevie Nicks is a legend. Great song!!! Thanks Ken, great reaction. ✌️🤙
I agree totally. That’s a given. What I meant is sometimes famous people get judged, they get a bad rep..or talked about in a negative way. I don’t like it.
I’m a HUGE Fleetwood Mac fan especially of this era of the band and Lindsey is the only guitarist I’ve ever heard who can make a complete and interesting solo out of essentially one note and how he manipulates it with bends ALL WITHOUT A PICK. I have basically been in love with Stevie since I was a teenager in the 1970s but I’ve lost so much respect for her for how she’s treated Lindsey recently. Christine is probably one of my favorite female songwriters and vocalists.
well those were the times not even worth pointing out that they were probbably high on "something - so was absolutely everyone else back then i didnt see any wildly exaggerated eye twisting moves or mumbeling voices in stevie´s performance if any it was part of the stage act to me this is one of the greatest pieces of live music - and i havent seen many "sober musicians doing it that much better to date
SHES NOT WASTED IN A ZILLION YEARS you can tell by the facial expressions and eye contact she even smiles which would have been a massive no no on coke!!!
Stevie one of my absolute favorites, and Lindsey's guitar playing is unbelievable. Ill take the feeling and true emotion over technical perfection any day.
I understand that I don't understand the fine points but this performance is a pantheon performance for this band. Maybe it's for the best she's not pitch perfect. 💯💯
Stevie Nicks is just a phenomenal talent isn't she. As is the rest of the crew. I once saw Rickii Lee Jones in concert and she was at minimum drunk, and proceeded to get drunker as the show went on. As one might expect, her performance went down the tubes. Drugs and alcohol only make your performance better if the audience is drugged and drunk. Great video Ken, I love the commentary by you. Gives us a sense of history. Kevin
I love Ken and respect him probably more than any vocalist on UA-cam - but this might be the only time where I might just have to agree to disagree. This is one of the best rock performances by a female. Got a little Joplin-esque toward the end, which is never a bad thing. Ken was not feeling it, haha.
I grew to love her band more and more over the years like a good man and red wine im 53 and last night played this again and found another depth and enlightment from her proforamce liked your channel thnks cheryl australia
Wow Man you missed so much in this video ....... The Bass line on this for example and how it drives the whole song and how Buckingham plays Rhyme and Lead also Stoned.
That vibrato is soulful as fuck. I've always thought Stevie's raspy, messy vocals were amazingly soulful in an earthy way. P.s. dude, she's not saying we're all the same. "It's all the same..." It's the anguish of the character she's channeling. As she sang in Stand Back, "no one knows how I feel, what I mean unless you read between my lines."
by chance I got to see Stevie Nicks back in '99. It was an amazing show! I was already a fan because of my mother, who had tickets and her friend's husband was in the hospital. I didn't want to at first, but I was really happy i did.
Listen, you all are in the midst of greatness, and I'm not talking about Fleetwood Mac. This vocal coach is by far the best and most insightful on YT. Funny, too. Salute!
KEN TAMPLIN Great reaction to FLEETWOOD MAC! They are Awesome! "DON'T STOP" ,"DREAMS" & "LANDSLIDE" are also my favorites. Including the ones you have here. You are Awesome! KEEP IT UP! KEEP ON STOMPIN'!
@@kentamplin Can you do a reaction to Celine Dion "TREAT HER LIKE A LADY" or " BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, live" or you pick the song! You are Awesome! Keep it up!
Stevie's immense popularity proves the point very clearly that singing is an art form more than it is a technical effort. Technical perfection does not equal emotional delivery. Stevie does not have an extraordinary vocal range or a very good technique, but she has something even more rare: an ability to communicate on a level so deep that it cant be explained- just experienced.
I don't know Ken?? Nice video.. You make some excellent points my man but I think this lead vocalist absolutely rocks!! And she really killed it at the end when she broke it down. Amazing performance! It's no wonder they were successful at selling records. Great stuff.
Stevie has always had an interesting voice. She has been very open about the drugs. She has been sober since 1986 from cocaine and 1994 from Klonopin. Over the last twenty years her voice has been pretty consistent. Her long time vocal coach often tours with her. His name is Steve Real y Vasquez.
The mountains of cocaine didn't come into play until the next album "Rumors" became so huge and they had money for mountains. At this point the only things they really did was pot and booze. I remember watching this when it first aired on Midnight Special and have been a huge fan of Stevie and the band ever since. I was 13 when this first aired so been mezmerized by her for 43 years. ROCK ON GOLD DUST WOMAN!!!
They had all struggled for so long to catch on, there was no way they were going to let relationship breakups wreck the chance they finally got for success. Imagine Lindsey - whom Stevie says she left - then having to not only hang in Fleetwood Mac to stay on top of the music business, but still work up Stevie's songs from the skeletons she brought in to the studio. And he did, incredibly well. I was 14 Ken when they broke big with "Over My Head". This "Rhiannon" from Midnight Special, made FM radio airplay in the Midwest. Stevie had what I consider a 2-timbre voice, the mellow distorted side from the studio version of that song, and the inner belter she really wanted to be. The power voice was husky to my ear, not as good as the soft side. But it all as I hear it, blended into one terrific instrument by her later 50's. She watched Joplin in San Francisco as a teenager. There you have it... Here's the kicker for that band: If Bob Welch doesn't leave the band out of frustration in 1974 - touring on the underbill, no $, no airplay - they very probably all go home in poverty within about another year. It sent Mick Fleetwood looking for a guitarist for an album he owed his label, probably the last, except that it became the White LP with new additions Lindsey and Stevie. Over My Head, Say You Love Me, Rhiannon, Monday Morning, et al. They got so gigantic by 1977, that Bob's solo LP "French Kiss" turned into a hit also, and the back catalog started selling. So that's how to make it in music by quitting... 😄 - Roy Greenfield
Thank you for posting this I used to watch this video on a daily basis. Stevie goes all crazy o at the end. Said she had to quit doing it like this pretty soon after or she would not be singing in 2021. :) Oh and Linsey playing in his PJ's is cool as well. Love that middle part where he goes all Lindsey!!!! Plus they had this version sped up vs the album version. I would have to say the drugs helped possibly not their health but their creativity. Hell look at Jimi H.
I love your vids ken. I was so happy to see you do a video reaction to Fleetwood Mac. I may only be 24 but I absolutely love these guys. My favorite songs are landslide and the chain. My 2 favorite bands of all time are definitely Fleetwood Mac and Queen
It's amazing how these iconic bands really shaped our youth. 52 now and Wow, we were so fortunate to grow up in this era!! Maybe I am time stamped, it just seems a lot of the music today just doesn't stand up! Music is lacking and certainly lyricallly challenged.
I could be wrong but I think for the era (70's, 80's, even 90's) part of the appeal for many WAS their (unprofessional) wild side...maybe I am misconstruing what you mean by un/professional. Anyway, when I first heard this live version, I thought it sounded a bit too fast and was going to say she seems more soulful with age, but then I got to the end of the song and...just WOW! She floored me. Your mention of cocaine was only a confirmation of what I assumed she was on...yeah, your right, it WAS written all over her face...her BEAUTIFUL face. Her stage persona, dress, and moves are iconic...all these years later and she still looks cool, at least to me (many rock stars looks of the 60's-80's, some 90's didn't age very well lol...esp. the matching (professional skater-like) outfits of bands like DIO (whose voice is EPIC! Please do a song by RJD. I just found you by random, interested in your other videos, but I'll also be on the look out for your reaction to RJD (in DIO or Black Sabbath...your choice :)
I tend to remind people of the timeframes, Stevie became an instant icon for women because early on, none of us knew anything about her i.e. The Group Fritz or even Buckingham Nick's so when she was getting noticed with Fleetwood Mac she was already hitting 30 years old and back in those days that was considered old to start a career, even people with talent and incredible vocals thought they missed the window of opportunity because of their age and when people found out how old Stevie was, it was like if she can do it so can others. The other thing people overlook is that the music industry is a business and in their case they created the drama within the band with the broken relationships and affairs much like a soap opera where people wanted to see what would happen next, in marketing we call that the push that has great pull in the form of dollars and cents. There was a time where people were not interested in their drama and then Stevie married her best friends husband and well that gave her some tabloid attention enough to sell her solo albums. Stevie never layered on makeup and kept her appearance natural, I personally liked the shape of her natural teeth, not her now teeth, I'm not sure if she lost her original teeth from drugs or what happened there, I like how she would pull in her bottom lip when when backed off the vocals, you dont see her doing that anymore, there are tons of noticeable things including her accent that was once strong that is now gone, which makes me wonder if the real Stevie did die in the pool in that house in California from an overdose and they got a close look alike to replace her, that was one of the tabloids back then along with Lindsay saying there was nothing unique about her voice and he pointed out her teeth saying that's how she made those sounds, people pretty much laughed it off and said they were high on those interviews but who knows what really happened along the way. I could never understand how Stevie because the Queen of Rock because shes never written the music and the lyrics without heaping amounts of help from other people. In interviews she has said that Lindsay was criticizing her songs, but in watching some of those videos it is obvious that without the injections of his fine tuning, those songs would have never went anywhere.
Thanks for your shout out to Bob Welch. That'll always be my favorite version of FM. But they sure found great replacements in LB and SN. I love that version, too. (The latest incarnation, not so much.)
I see a lot of people criticizing Stevie from a technical standpoint. I don't have technical knowledge, so I can't comment on that, but I do know how music makes me feel and the thing about Stevie is how natural she sounds to me. I've even listened to a lot of her pre-FM stuff. It's not perfect, but there's so much soul, so much effortless emotion in her voice (and on Lindsey's voice too). I also find the live performance videos interesting because she doesn't try to force 100 different sexy faces, she doesn't look like she's trying to mime the entire song, she doesn't look like she's trying to push a heavy object every time she wails. She's standing there, doing her thing, twirling in her witchy ways, but in general she doesn't come off like she's trying to impersonate a singer. To me, that makes it awesome to watch and listen.
Stevie Nicks!! She has that unique voice--I listened to this song again and again..still amazed at her kinda contralto and rocker voice!! Could I ask you for a voice tutorial on Stevie style?
Couldn't agree more. Today's music has no soul, no life. Back in those days it was like musicians were driven soely by their desire / passion to create great music. Today it seems they are all just driven by the desire for fame and fortune, and all they care about is making something that will sell and generate profit with the least amount of effort. It's truly sad to think tha 20 years from now kids growing up may well not have a clue what truly great music is.
Ken this was a fantastic Reaction you did on this legend! My first year experience in college in '84 when I was 19 living in the dorms, I "had" to put up a female poster like so many of the other guys did. I put up Madonna, you know the one that looks like she is an emaciated skinny little twig with the head tilt looking like she's calling your name. My new roommate was a 25 year old who served four years in the military prior to. He put up this huge poster of Stevie. The two musicians showed our age differences between us. And like you Ken, I truly appreciate the group, their individual talents and their entire history as I've gotten older.
Why does it feel like you were knocking her thru the whole thing... Man, one of the best vocalist of all time if not the best, high or not, Which I understood the first time you said it... Great job Ken as usual and Phuking Love Sara Loera's covers of Stevies songs

Gorgeous woman, outstanding voice... And then she just up levels at the end. Awesome
What did her voice sound like in person? Was it always raspy? Or was it clear sometimes.
Stevie Nicks is one of the few singers "in my opinion" that can get away with mostly singing in her chest voice. She does use her head voice once in a while but I think only when she feels the need. Mostly she's in chest voice.
Ken I'd have to say they did just fine and Stevie is one of the greatest singers.
Epic just epic their chain song live is legendary
Knowing what we do about that era, sure, she’s probably high. But I think her bangs and their shadow make her look more “affected” than she is. I think this is more just her stage presence. That, and Stevie is a beautiful goddess with the voice of angels, and thus, can do no wrong in my eyes. 😜
Thanks for weighing in, Carrie!
Notice the lack of in ear monitor????? Not too shabby for 1976 and live!! No auto tune either.
😀👍
I don’t care what anyone says about Stevie nicks.... she’s such an inspiration to me, and she’s done so much for a lot of people like her music kept me sane 💯 she’s the best singer I know.
That's great, Valerie!
I've always said this is the greatest rock video ever.
😊
I found it funny that you didn't like that part that you say that was a killer, I really really love this part and repeat that one over and over again.
I was saying I don't like drugs. I said the music was killer.
@@kentamplin Sorry then I interperteded it wrongly. Thank you for your fast reaction back to me.
All that drama doesn’t matter to me. I bet the greatest songs were written and sung by those on drugs. The music is what matters. Stevie Nicks is a legend. Great song!!! Thanks Ken, great reaction. ✌️🤙
Eagles is one of my fav groups along with Little River Band. Please do reaction for them if you can. I’d appreciate it. Thanks for your time.
Kelley, actually, I think the life of the artist is far more important than the music.
Christine is probably one of my favorite female songwriters and vocalists.
well those were the times
not even worth pointing out that they were probbably high on "something - so was absolutely everyone else back then
i didnt see any wildly exaggerated eye twisting moves or mumbeling voices in stevie´s performance
if any it was part of the stage act
to me this is one of the greatest pieces of live music - and i havent seen many "sober musicians doing it that much better to date
😊
@@kentamplin :)
SHES NOT WASTED IN A ZILLION YEARS you can tell by the facial expressions and eye contact she even smiles which would have been a massive no no on coke!!!
I still watch clips of the 1997 show. Top tier stuff.
Fleetwood Mac is iconic and Stevie is one of the greatest vocalists ever. Kudos to Sara for how well Sara covers her vocals.
Stevie doesn't look "wasted" to me, just really into her music and performance.
There's a better version out there from around the same era. Stevie Nicks doesn't look as stoned in it.
Kevin
Kevin O'Rourke I love Rickie Lee Jones & Benatar.
I love Ken and respect him probably more than any vocalist on UA-cam - but this might be the only time where I might just have to agree to disagree. This is one of the best rock performances by a female. Got a little Joplin-esque toward the end, which is never a bad thing. Ken was not feeling it, haha.
Fair enough!
I grew to love her band more and more over the years like a good man and red wine im 53 and last night played this again and found another depth and enlightment from her proforamce liked your channel thnks cheryl australia
Rock on!
Wow Man you missed so much in this video ....... The Bass line on this for example and how it drives the whole song and how Buckingham plays Rhyme and Lead also Stoned.
The Buckingham Nicks album is absolutely fantastic. There will never be another Stevie Nicks for sure.
👍😊
They were one of my most favourite band a long while ago - still sounds great today - they were always in the news i remember! cheers Ken x
That vibrato is soulful as fuck. I've always thought Stevie's raspy, messy vocals were amazingly soulful in an earthy way. P.s. dude, she's not saying we're all the same. "It's all the same..." It's the anguish of the character she's channeling. As she sang in Stand Back, "no one knows how I feel, what I mean unless you read between my lines."
allthatjazzspaz95 Thanks for the clarification, dude.
by chance I got to see Stevie Nicks back in '99. It was an amazing show! I was already a fan because of my mother, who had tickets and her friend's husband was in the hospital. I didn't want to at first, but I was really happy i did.
I'll bet you were!
Listen, you all are in the midst of greatness, and I'm not talking about Fleetwood Mac. This vocal coach is by far the best and most insightful on YT. Funny, too. Salute!
Wow, thank you!
Mic Fleetwood made the album sound dreamy. Love that album.

KEN TAMPLIN
Great reaction to FLEETWOOD MAC!
They are Awesome!
"DON'T STOP" ,"DREAMS" & "LANDSLIDE" are also my favorites. Including the ones you have here.
You are Awesome!

Can you sing Don't Stop with SARA LOERA? This is a special request.
It would be awesome!

Can you do a reaction to DOLLY PARTON "Working 9 to 5"?
@@kentamplin
Can you do a reaction to Celine Dion "TREAT HER LIKE A LADY" or " BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, live" or you pick the song!
Thanks for the visit. Rock on!
How did I miss this?!?!? Thanks Ken, even if I was a year late! lol 🤣🤣🤣 ♥️FABULOUS ♥️
No worries!
Great review again! Very interesting. Don't sell yourself short; your knowledge base is huge!
Absolutely love Fleetwood Mac! And once again I also love watching you give your feedback on the videos.. you’re spot on every time!

Fleetwood mac is better than the Eagles

Thank you for posting this I used to watch this video on a daily basis. Stevie goes all crazy o at the end. Said she had to quit doing it like this pretty soon after or she would not be singing in 2021. :) Oh and Linsey playing in his PJ's is cool as well. Love that middle part where he goes all Lindsey!!!! Plus they had this version sped up vs the album version. I would have to say the drugs helped possibly not their health but their creativity. Hell look at Jimi H.
Rock on!
Love, Love, Love Fleetwood Mac!! ♡♡♡

This is a fun video, thank you Ken! I'm learning on my workbreaks.
That's great, Rielly!
After 30 years i got to see her live i tell u it was magical sad that lidnsey wasn't part of it...
Watching this while Stevie's "Stand Back" is playing on my t.v. Loved her my whole life!
Also, she writes her own music and most of Fleetwood Mac's music.
Rock on, Susan!
And every man was in love with her.
Probably.
Rhiannon live 1979? Japan!!! WOW
I also find the live performance videos interesting because she doesn't try to force 100 different sexy faces, she doesn't look like she's trying to mime the entire song, she doesn't
look like she's trying to push a heavy object every time she wails.
Years after this, addiction nearly killed Stevie, twice. She could have been another rock statistic but had the strength to recover.
Thank you.
Did we really need a review to know Fleetwood Mac was wasted? So what, it's over. How many times do we need to hear the same thing.
Killer performance, indeed. I love this version of Rhiannon.
Fleetwood Mac was an awesome group that broke out in the late 70's. Love their music. ❤❤❤❤
The live version of this song surpasses the album version.
What a great breakdown Ken! Timeless band we all love and grew up with. Thanks for all great info. You are truly the best ever.

I love how you explain everything around the band to know. Im too young to know them, but will look up more of their stuff.
Tobias Hofbauer Awesome!
thanks for this, amazing band and I am about to see it.
I saw it, and she is amazing, they are amazing.
Great to hear that!
Why have performers and music gone downhill. No charisma no stage presence.
@@pete3198 Don't lump all of today's music together because there are some really great artists out there right now.
IMO!! "Hypnotized" is the best Bob Welsh (Fleetwood Mac) song!! Its such a cool groove. :D
Thanks for sharing that with us, Steve!
A band that stood the test of time with their unique sound and run of many great songs like them very much.
Why does it feel like you were knocking her thru the whole thing... Man, one of the best vocalist of all time if not the best, high or not, Which I understood the first time you said it... Great job Ken as usual and Phuking Love Sara Loera's covers of Stevies songs
Mary Caruana I wasn't knocking her. Just observing what I see, hear and what I know to be the history of the band and some of the issues they faced.
