Just cause it's not like how it used to be with his "early home runs" doesn't mean he's having a bad year like you've said in other videos. Yeah I am hooked. And they are all different.and diverse not done to a set sound or method. He is always experimenting. They are covers and they are creative asf. That can be harder to get your creative freak on with than writing something from scratch. I don't expect from hearing the outros Leo has a prob with Creating from Scratch either.

Mogshade I dont think that Royals is Mainstream... Its not written in minor nor in major. Actually it is written in mixolydian, what gives the song its odd feeling. And the fact, that in the starting you cant here much musical context in the background, just some drums and a little bit of bass, creates some sort of tension, which I think is really nice.

Royals is alt-pop. New Zealand musicians should be grateful to her, she smashed open the doors to the international market for NZ artists. Crowded House and OMC are the only other NZ artists to make the US Top 10, but Royals was the song that showed industry people that NZ music can sell big-time.
It is also a well written song and the message resonated with people of all ages. Of course like any song you can get sick of it.
