  • The Accord hybrid is nice, but realistically, many people are going to purchase the 1.5T. Fortunately for those people, highway mpg might prove to be even stronger than it would be in the hybrid.

    i hate that they keep making the gas tanks smaller and smaller. I like a long range vehicle. Most of these mid sized cars used to have around 18 gallon tanks.

      Smaller gas tanks get better acceleration and mpg, its about 6 pounds per gallon of gas plus weight of bigger gas tank. 5 gallons smaller gas tank equals to like 33 pounds of gas and metal saved with smaller tank.

    • @kyron2092
      @kyron2092 9 місяців тому +3

      @wl6020 I'll have to disagree about smaller tanks having better mpg. My car has an 18 gallon tank with a 2.4l na engine and I can get 47 mpg on the highway averaging 73 mph. I along with plenty of consumers would gladly take another 100 miles or so per tank over a negligible amount of acceleration.

    Pump Blocking by a Tesla to clean his windows? I hope this doesn't become a trend!!! Thanks for the highway mpg tests Hybrid vs. little turbo. Hybrid great around town and stop and go, but little advantage on loner highway trips.

    There are other tests where the new Accord Hybrid reaches 48mpg on the highway driving 100 mile with an average speed of 70mph and I think you didn't have 70mph average ))
    Car&Driver got 39mpg at 75mph with the new accord hybrid on 19" wheels and 42mpg on the 2018 model on 17" wheels. This EX is on 17" wheels. On 19" wheels it won't go over 40mpg - so the same as the hybrid ))
    Fuel consumption also depends on outside temperature. You should retest the hybrid model when outside is more than 60F.

  • @BrandonG8Man

    This should not surprise anyone. Hybrids excel in the city. Their advantages typically disappear on the highway. This tendency is exacerbated in Honda hybrids due to the design of the system.

    I'm guessing the fatal flaw is the 7-inch infotainment display when they have 9-inch or even 12-inch displays available in there parts bin? That's the only downside I really had with the car when I rented one for a road trip from DC to South Carolina. Avg'd 37 mpg at 80 mph the whole way according to the vehicle trip so realistically more towards 35 mpg.

      I have this exact car and the 7inch screen is not a big deal, I don’t like having a big ass TV looking screen. In ideal conditions I can easily get 40mpg sometimes more. If it’s windy it’s 35-37.

    Charlie, As you note, oversized wheels and over-wide tires are the enemy of fuel efficiency. Going forward, will there be an AWD Accord Hybrid next spring when the new Camry comes out?
    My guess on the Accord's 'fatal' flaw is the appalling rear seat head room which falls so far short of the promises made by the generous rear leg room. 🤔

    I test-drove the 2024 Accord gas engine at 55 mph in ECON mode, and easily obtained over 41 miles per gallon. At 55, in your commute on slower roads, you will probably get over 45 mpg. The hybrid is useless and overpriced, unless you live in NYC.
