Hi Jay, I figured it out! I did a reset, and checked my re-entered menu settings one at a time. When I changed ISO from Auto 3 to L80, "shooting + motion" and "continuous + motion" greyed out. When I returned to Auto 3, they became available again. Yay! Cheers, Steve
Do you know if the X-S10 allows for all film simulations when shooting in auto mode? I know the X-T30 didn't allow this and it does become useful to shoot in classic chrome in auto in some situations.
Sold the X-T30 and bought the X-S10 with zero regrets. Love the X-S10 ergonomics and IBIS! Also own the x100v. They are both so fun to shoot with. Favorite lens and only lens I own is Fuji XF 35mm 1.4. Feel like I have all I need. Shoot street, landscape and portrait. Favorite film simulation is Velvia. Shooting portraits with Velvia gets lots of compliments. Really like your channel.
I’m in the same spot now, but with several lenses. Watching videos on this camera over and over. In a day I will go to the store to try it physically. I am certain enough I will buy it but want also to take a look on T5.
Solid post, Jay! For street photographers who like to shoot from the hip touch screen “Shot” can work quite well. I have focus check on with joystick press to zoom in, instead of turning lens (somewhat faster). I’ve been setting up C1-C4 and found the process fiddly at best. We can name each Custom set, but the name doesn’t appear on screen when shooting. Also, some options for the C1-C4 are greyed out (mainly in Wrench menu), a bit disappointing. A future vid on the topic would be welcome. Have a great New Year!
Yes the custom modes are currently the biggest setbacks which hopefully fujifilm can change in a future firmware. One thing I can say is having no screen protector on my X-S10 makes the touch screen response very quick! on my x100v sometimes it can sometimes be inconsistent.
I think what I would like to see is a "pro" version of the xs10. Same body shape and "pasm" dial, but: larger body/weather sealed, larger battery, focus mode dial on front, higher resolution EVF. That could be a cool camera.
@@JayRegular lol. I'm looking forward to seeing that. You really think the xh2 will replace traditional dials with a xs10 style "pasm" dial? I think a pro version of the xs10 would be ideal if it remained a similar size to the Olympus om1iii. Either way I'm holding off on buying an xt4 until I see the xh2 or a new version of the xs10 (maybe the xp10. Lol)
Another cracking video! I still prefer my X-Pro3 for urban photography, but my X-S10 is growing on me. This has definitely given my a few ideas on setting changes (using touch to access focus modes is genius!). I'm sure you've talked about you custom profiles in more detail, any chance of a pointer to the appropriate video please? Keep up the great work and Happy New Year! 😀
@@JayRegular hoping so, its kind of running low in stock here in Belgium, probably there has been a good deal of demand in the holiday season. might as well wait a while. really well made video though

Great video, I just bought mine today and I really want to set back button focus up, I was hoping you would have mentioned that but didn't, for some reason I can't work out how to do that.
Might make a video about video settings, as for lens, fuji 18-55 f2.8-4 or 16-50 f2.8, 16 f1.4. you can also look at adapted vintage lenses if you don't mind manual focusing
I had the a6400. Sold it and my Sigma 16 and 30 mm lenses for the X-S10 and Fuji 23f2 and 56f1.2. I’m so much happier! Video is so much better. Simulations are amazing! Autofocus is not quite as good as Sony but all of the other benefits (primarily limited to no post processing as all the JPG and video are amazing right out of Fuji) well worth it. Fuji all the way!
thank you for the effort and the sharing. can C1-3 be used for both stills and motion? when in movie mode, will the C1-3 be the motion presets and when not in movie mode, return to my C1-3 still settings? thank you in advance for any information you can share. thumbs up.
From I found so far, C1-4 will have most of the same settings from the video mode ie, resolution, frame rate, audio settings etc. The only difference is that if you record while in C1-4, it will override the film simulation settings in you set in video mode and apply the film simulation you have currently assigned to that C number.
thank you for the video....i am trying to figure out if its possible to have "normal" speed stops on the camera - 1/125 1/500 1/1000 and so on because the camera is showing excect speed in very confusing to me way. i come from film shooting and prefer working with the speeds i know. thank you
You can set those shutter speeds in the menu or using the dials on the camera, unlike film cameras there are no physical dials on the xs10 that control shutter speed
Killer video! Thank you, it is really useful as I am approaching this camera... Too bad there isn't a way to switch the time and aperture wheels (front and back). As an ex Canon user I'd like to be able to do it,like in my Sony A7III... I have a question for you, how did you record this video? Did you use an external recorder like Atomos Ninja?
Hi again Jay, quick question about the Q menu on my X-S10. I set my Q screen to 16 items. When I press Q, the upper left icon displays the current shooting mode, and is the only icon that can't be adjusted by the rear command dial. When pressing the Q for two seconds to access Q edit display, the same upper left area is blank and seemingly cannot be accessed. The X-T30 and, I believe the X-T4 show the icon "BASE" in the upper left, and I think is related to custom settings. Is this how it is supposed to be? I just watched your video again. You set your Q screen to 8 items, and your upper left area was also blank, so only 7 were there. Thanks! Steve
Hi Steve, in PASM modes the upper left box is reserved for those shooting modes and cannot be changed. In c1-c4 the upper left box is reserved for selecting what shooting mode (P,A,S,M) you want to set for that custom slot
Hello great video. there is something I'm not able to do in my XS 10 when it comes to the four custom setting. every time I uses a manual lens and change the aperture using the Aperture ring on the lens something else compensates for it such as shutter speed or something else and its preventing me from getting dark images. how do you stop this so that when use slow aperture it will the look I'm trying to achieve without it compensating with something else to brighten the image its so annoying. this happens in all four custom settings. thanks
Do you have Auto ISO activated? you need to manually set the ISO value using the iso button that way you can control the shutter speed using rear command dial. With the custom settings it's harder to change ISO quickly, if I want full control of the camera I usually set it to manual mode on the top dial, but I understand that custom settings allow for fujifilm recipes to be saved. It's a little fidgety
Thanks for this at so is there no way you can actually set the custom settings to full Manual. At one stage I thought the camera was broke I was freaking out lol but I took a load of shots and your right it is figity I had to play about with the iso like you said because it goes it to auto mode as soon as you use the CS1 it would just be handy to get the custom setting full manual so you can set them to more particular setup as soon as you go in. Thanks again.
You can go in to edit your c1 so that the iso is a fixed value, the only issue with that is you need to remember the value you set everytime you switch to that custom setting
Great info Jay! It looks like you can set the White Balance Shift for each of the C1-C4 dials. Will this also affect the White Balance of RAW, if you shoot JPEG + RAW? Or what will the WB Shift be for the RAW file if shooting both? Thank you
Thanks Mike! RAW will be auto wb as the base file, unless you have a software like capture one that can import the raw file with all the in camera settings applied.
Hi Jay, thanks for your videos. I'm sure I'll watch them again. I just began using my X-S10 today! First non-point and shoot camera. It was much easier than I thought. I have the 18-55 and 55-200. After shooting for a couple of hours, I went back into the IS options, and noticed that "shooting + motion" and "continuous + motion" were greyed out and therefore unavailable. They were when I first set up my camera. I can't figure out what setting(s) I changed that caused this to happen. Any ideas? Thanks! Steve
Hey Steven, I am also not very sure about those two IS shooting modes. From what I understand you need to be in certain shooting settings for it to be available. I did notice that it was available when I switched to Aperture priority on the command dial. I had face detect turned off, single shot af mode, and multi exposure for photometry. my shutter speed was under 1/50th of a second. The purpose of those two IS modes seems to stabilise and maintain focus on faster moving subjects to reduce blur, so maybe it has something to do with slower shutter speeds? Hope this helps in some way.
Hi Jay, thanks for the most informative video I've seen so far. I've taken about 10 shots on my new X-S10 and can scroll through the pics on camera. When I connect to my i-Mac via Photos or Fuji Raw Studio, no pics can be found, although both programmes recognise the camera as being connected. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong? This is my first Fuji camera.
I've never worked with an iMac before, but I do know that Fuji RAW files are hard to work with. Make sure in the settings on the camera, in connection settings you have connection mode set to usb raw conv/backup restore and usb power supply setting to OFF
To someone who has been using Fujifilm for a while it kinda does, but for new users, I can see it being pretty handy, especially if you have a custom profile loaded but you want to see how it looks in another film simulation without diving the menus
