Something I've started experimenting with, is a straw or thin pipe in the back corner. It runs all the way down to the clay balls, and that way I can fill up that space with some water, without soaking down the substrate. If you fill it right to the membrane, it'll soak the bottom inch of the substrate, and create a nice moisture gradient where it's drier towards the top, and wetter at the bottom. This allows the spider to figure out, where it's the most comfortable.
Something I've suggested to Dave, is that if the tube or straw is big enough, it could also be used to feed a tube down and syphon excess water in the bottom.
She didn't want to leave the tub soon as you move it "ooo a hole" 😆 beautiful girl tho and great vid Dave n Camera Lady 😊 looking forward to the next one they make my Monday mornings 🙂 have a brilliant week 👍

Hey Dave, there’s an upcoming show near me this month (I mentioned it in another comment as being mostly reptiles, few inverts). As someone with limited funds here what in your opinion would be the better option for me to purchase? Species I don’t already have or multiples of a single species in hopes of getting a future breeding pair? If you didn’t have much to spend, which way would you go?
Now thats a question 😂, it all depends on your future goals!! if your really interested in the breeding side of things I would go for one species and buy 4-6 slings if you can afford it 1 female and then get it to moult and find a male, dont buy a pair becouse normally your male will be ready before your female is , so making him worthless? but if you just want to keep spiders for their interest then I would go for different specimens, PS if first breeding attempts dont buy Brachypelmas try Psalmopaus irminia or cambridgei both pretty easy to breed 👍👍❤️

LOL! Good advice bc I seem to have a pet hole at the moment...well, a pet pot. My Cal Ebony is holed up inside a little clay pot I put in the enclosure and waits for the crickets to waltz right in. I probably need to wait for him to get a bit hungry first. I've just been very hesitant to hold off feeding bc of his poor condition when I found him. It's been about 10 weeks and he's looking better but IDK when to feel secure in his conditioning
You have done the right thing just keep feeding as you are and wait for a good moult then your spider should be at a good Weight once this happens you can then try and entice your spider out more with food , but remember some spiders are more nervous than others so its trial and error 👍
Hi Dave! Been a busy week but we're finally catching up, and another fine video from you, thanks! Just wondering though; where did you get that awesome t-shirt?
@@daveslittlebeasties It's maxing out the noise gate, which means every word is accompanied by horrible crackling sounds and a huge echo. Turning it down is rolling a turd in glitter, it doesn't get rid of the problem. This is easily the best spider channel on youtube, it frankly deserves the best audio quality you can get, and after upgrading the camera, I'm surprised the audio isn't an equal priority. It's 30 seconds of editing to apply a filter and bring the levels down, and given people don't tune it to watch you on mute, but to hear what you have to say, I'm surprised by your 'I couldn't give a shit, lol' response.
@@ShiivaWilding Im sorry you feel that way as I said im working on a better mic not sure were you get " I couldn't give a shit " from , im no IT geek so learn as I go sorry if this is not quick enough for you , you do seem to be the only one with such a massive problem or maybe your use the rudest !!!!!
@@daveslittlebeasties It's standard criticism Dave, I'm using studio headphones so I notice when the noise gate is well into the red. But my initial concern was met with 'turn it down' with a laughing emoji, rather than 'I'm working on it, slowly but surely' or something similarly reassuring to that effect. How am I meant to read that comment? Whether you meant it to read like a joke, it came across as you're not going to fix it, or even try to fix it. You're a professional, clearly, and in person your response would be very different I'm sure, but fans of this channel will NEVER point out the problems with audio, and so it lands to people like me, curious as to the subject, interested in you more than the spiders if I'm totally honest, to point it out. I've done it with lots of channels, the audio has improved, and generally the change brings in a lot more subscribers. And no, I'm not being rude, rude is something very different and I can be that if I need to, especially with channels who antagonise their audience, but you don't do that. Getting defensive is pointless, and the fact is that the audio IS a problem; a better mic won't solve this issue if you don't first know how to make the current mic sound great using software, and I know it's daunting but trust me it's worth knowing. Most programs allow you to create a template with all the settings you know to work really well for the space you're recording in, one for talking directly to the camera, another for close-ups of the spiders or voice over work for pre-recorded footage, and I'm sure someone in your community could hop on a skype call and run you through it in five minutes. I like to support channels who do interesting work with insight, criticism, suggestions, etc... and you should be totally open to all of that, even if the wording is a little forceful at times.
@@ShiivaWilding Im sorry you was offended but the fact there was a laughing emoji would suggest it was a joke and followed up with the comment that im trying to sort it out I only work with what I have to hand my computer skills are very limited and the vast majority dont have any issues with the sound but then I guess they are all listening through there computers and not proffessional headphones !
