I am mind blown by your patience! May I know how you kept the food warm? The feeding seems to take such a long time and I find it impossible that the formula won't cool down 🤔
The easiest way is to have a cup of very warm water, and set the syringe in it if you need to pause for any reason. I don't know if that's what these folks did, but I have used that method successfully for years.
@@nellz72 Yes, that's a great way! We also put the cup with food on our radiator, because it's cold here and we still use heating system. And by that way food stays warm while feeding them. 😀

Our zebra finches laid 3 eggs last month, 2 hatched but only one survived. How often and how much do you feed the baby zebras? Had no idea that biscuits can be used to feed them, which kind is best? I want to be more prepared if they will ever lay eggs again. Can I include hard boiled egg into the mixture? My adult zebra finches love it and get it 2-3 times a week as a supplement.
You should use a product like Nekton Baby Bird. Otherwise you risk giving them not all the nutrients they need. Just take care that they have enough water also.
We mixed warm water and minced "Plazma" biscuit. I don't know how to describe it, similar to Petit beurre biscuit, if you've heard about it. We don't know about baby food, maybe you could try it, but we don't know is it safe. 😕 Try to find some information on Google.
Sir my finches laid 5 eggs, 2 eggs hatched today, I don't understand what food I'm suppose to give finches parents . Today is the first day. I don't have plazma biscuits available here . Can you please give me the food item list which can be given to finch parents so they can feed their babies .
Hi,what are you feeding them?...I've had a pair of what I believed to be 2 female zebra finches all this time, and today I went to clean their cage, and to my shock, there are 5 eggs in their nest house!....
That was such a nice surprise, haha. We mixed minced biscuits with warm water. There is also already prepared food for baby birds which can be bought in pet shops. Check description of video for more info. We hope your couple will feed their babies so that you don't have to, because it's a really hard job. 😀
Hello, this is a beautiful video. I am just interested if you put the birds back in their nest after every feeding and did the parents keep them warm? My finch has 5 eggs but I am scared that the parents won't take care of the chicks after they hatch. I don't own an incubator or anything similar.
We have two grown zebra finches and now two babies (sadly third brother of these died). We have 10 budgies, 8 hamsters, one Betta fish and one aquarium with 14 mixed species of fish. We also have a cat outside that we feed regulary and she comes inside our house sometimes. 😀
A crop of a chick 1-3 days old will hold about the equivalent of 3-5 seeds. 4-7 days old the capacity should double. 8-15 days old it should hold around 0.5CC, after that it'll hold 1CC or more depending on species. The younger the chick is, the more often you need to feed it. Each chick will be different, watch the chick and check on it frequently for the first few days. Let the baby tell you how often to feed. Or more simply put, if the crop is empty, feed the baby and check on it more frequently. :)
@@DzanaDeni Since they are now hand-raised, do you keep them in a separate cage from the other wild finches? If you keep them all together, is there any danger they may go wild and not come to you?
We've put them together with other finches to enjoy, not to be separated from others and you are right, they did get wild and aren't as tamed as they were before.
Hi. I was wondering the reason why the parents didn’t feed them. Did you touch the eggs before they hatched? Or did you touch the little ones after they hatched? Is that the reason why the parents didn’t feed them?
No, we didn't touch them. It was their first nest so maybe that's the reason, it was their first time to be parents and maybe they didn't know how to act. We are not sure. 😐
Do not let the chick go more than 3-4 hours between feedings at night until it is older. When to feed: 1-3 days old: every 30 minutes to an hour 4-7 days old: every hour to an hour and a half 8-15 days old: every hour and a half to 2 and a half hours 16-30 days old: every 2-4 hours 30-weaning: as needed After 25-30 days they should start eating by themselves, you must give seeds so that they can learn slowly.
Hi i have a question.. so in case of parrot species we dont need to feed them at night.. like from 10 pm to 6 am in the morning.. but what do we do in case of finches? Do we feed them at night also?
Hey, what is the amount of hand feeding formula that can be given to a 10 day old baby finch? i use a 2 ml syringe as of now and feed about 0.5 ml every 2 hours or so, not including overnight.
If you use syringe: A crop of a chick 1-3 days old will hold about the equivalent of 3-5 seeds. 4-7 days old the capacity should double. 8-15 days old it should hold around 0.5CC (ml) , after 15 days it'll hold 1CC (ml) or more depending on species.

@@MerrinJames Well, then try feeding until their crop is full. It does not have to be exactly 0.5. It’s just a number so that you know roughly how much they need. Some chicks need more, like people, some of us eat more and some eat less . 😁
