- usually i'm not a huge fan of comic relief during tense moments of drama but this scene is one of my new favs i hope matthew macfadyen gets an emmy nom just for being a bitch (i don't own this obv all rights go to hbo) + this is NOT kerry slander i don't tolerate any hate towards her she was just a little silly here much love to you queen hope you work through your grief 🫶🫶🫶
Kerry's actress killed it in this scene. She conveyed that pure shock and adrenaline so well
She really showed her skills here, that cannot be easy to act out and she made it feel so real

"Who, uh, Chuckles the Clown? I think not" even in the moments of sorrow and tragedy, this show never ceases to be hilarious! Will be missed when it's over.
I'd like to recommend the following if you like that which the creator of this show has worked on both are from the UK though
1.the thick of it(the insults are a whole other level)
2.In the loop(a film that is a bit amercanized but has characters from the thick of it, also has David Rasche who plays Karl on succession)

@@captainquark2272 Oh 100%- to add to this, Death of Stalin. All within this same kind of comedic zone which prioritizes not strange situations, but just human wit and emotion and the hilarious results that entails in diamond one liners. Ianucci is a comedic genius.
Frank's emotional intelligence has always stood out on the show among his executive peers. From his fatherly interactions with Kendall, to his reassurance to Kerry that they absolutely do want her to be a part of the response to Logan's passing... but only after she's gone and had a nice rest first to collect her thoughts.
He’s one of the only people in the show that seems normal / nice
Frank's response to Kerry was super mature and intelligent to say the least.
I thought it showed him scheming to keep Kerry out of the loop, under the guise of taking care of her
Dealt with a panic attack like a pro too. "I am currently having a panic attack" is probably on my list of funniest lines

This is impeccable acting. Shockingly good I couldn't believe it. Looks like she is really in shock. Before this her character was always muted and showed little life. To come out of her characters she'll to display shock is just phenomenal acting.

Characters that were perhaps a little peripheral in previous seasons have been given the chance to shine in the latest season - ones like Karl, Hugo and Kerry. They've had some great moments in the last 2 episodes!

As shocking and as tense as this episode was...Tom's reaction to Kerry smiling and his "foul ball" comment had me cracking up !!!
Much needed comic relief in that moment.

Such an emotional episode yet they still managed to throw in some great punchlines. Both from Karl funny enough, "oh he's heavily f*cking delayed" and "chuckles the clown? I think not"
Yeah, I think that Karl is finally letting himself let loose since he never seemed to actually like Logan all that much. Frank was friends with Logan, but Logan never respected Karl.

Mommy Karolina is honestly the backbone, she's probably young enough to be Frank's daughter but she's sharing the weight of the situation fully with a veteran like him.
Karolina is who Shiv wants to be. She's a pro, calm, smart, polite and take her job seriously as PR and even in the same level of the top dogs. Shiv can't be like her.

That brush she does over her face at 0:27 is amazing acting. She slips up and starts frowning then wipes her face to bring out a smile again. It is a great callback to last week’s terrible audition tapes and how she tries to cover up tragedy with smiles.

Can I just say, I really loved Frank's role during this episode. He was protective, gentle and you can clearly see that he was grieving in his own way. While it was a bit off-putting that he was thinking of the business strategy after, he was just as affected as the kids were.

When he hit the wall because he was frustrated on the phone with Kendall but trying to stay gentle with him... every moment of this episode was perfection.
The little detail she does, bringing her hand to her face as if to try pull her smile down. But then goes right back to a smile. Like she trying to fight smiling but can’t help it. Such great acting.
They were so thoughtful to show her nervously grinning in the audition tape in the last episode to provide context for this, like they made absolutely clear that the show is not making fun of her for having this response, even if it’s how the lackey brigade might treat it. One of a thousand things they did for this episode that balanced the clever and the compassionate. I am endlessly impressed

I don't know why, but I always smile for some reason whenever I get any important news, good or bad. It's like a reflex.
I understand that it's strange and uncanny, but can't do anything about it. I was like "yeah, Kerry, I probably feel you".

That "fuck" perfectly echoes the "fuck" when he's talking to Greg about his deck shoes.
Kinda surprised people here keeps interpreting her smiling as a sign that she is happy when the show is clearly depicting someone who is in distress and shock. That was the point. The point of the other characters ragging on her "smiling" was to show their superficiality and self absorbance. They themselves are glad he was dead. They were just to busy thinking of ways to elevate themselves to celebrate about it. They were projecting.
Tom: "What the fuck?!"
Karolina: "I think she's freaking out, Tom."
Tom: "Oh yeah?"
Karolina: "Yeah."
The self-centered contempt all these characters have for one another in this show is incredible 😂

Very well acted panic/anxiety attack, the fast breathing and shakiness. Been there myself... It's like you get full of adrenaline and you don't even get sad, you just feel like you snorted more lines of cocaine than Kendall

Kerry is lowkey tragic to me. In a series with a solid undercurrent of abuse of women, especially sex workers, Kerry is just another in a long string of Logan's "assistants" who was promised security and opportunity, and was left with nothing in the end. The Roy Empire picked her up out of her little apartment, gave her a twirl, and then dropped her when it no longer needed her because the truth is, she is Not a Real Person.
Seems like she was a willing and active participant in this scenario.

What I think the point of this scene is, other than another moment conveying the shock and gravity of Logan's death, is just how fragile Kerry's position as Logan's assistant/mistress was. They weren't married (although last season they were trying to conceive, so that could be an interesting plotline). She didn't have an official executive position and knowing Logan there likely wasn't anything written about her position in the case of his death.
She was given the considerable, but fleeting power that comes with being the concubine of a powerful man. Almost out of nowhere mid season 3, she goes from being a borderline extra to speaking up in meetings and then by the time season 4 rolls around, she's essentially Logan's chief of staff, controlling who has access to him and ordering people around with nothing but his affection, and the promise of his wrath backing her up.
Karolina's "Can you give us the room? You're in shock you should rest." has NOTHING to do with her being in shock. It's her saying "This is an executive meeting. You're just the former assistant of a dead man. You have no place here."
Several people loyal to Logan are now vulnerable in the wake of his death, but Kerry is the only character that has truly lost EVERYTHING. And to top it all off, not a single person in an elevated position likes her. She was probably making at MOST a high 5 figure salary in her assistant position, she very likely doesn't come from wealth given her position and willingness to sleep with a man 50 years older than her for professional advancement and there's not even a guarantee she'll keep her official job at the company.
So much of Succession revolves around characters trying to attach themselves to and remain inside the circles of extreme wealth, and all the dirty little things they're willing to do to accomplish that. Tom and Willa are generally the best examples of this (along with the rest of Logan's cronies) but if Kerry doesn't embody that, nobody does.
As hateable as she is, I'm genuinely going to feel bad for her when she's inevitably on her knees begging the people she's been dominating for the last few months not to throw her out onto the streets, and honestly unless she's currently pregnant with Logan's child I can't see a single reason why they won't.
What do we actually know about Tom, we are into the 4th season, and don't know his history, or his history with Shiv, just how they got together. I think Tom is the Dark horse here I think he is working with Matsson and has been for a while. Any way the shares just tanked so the sale of waystar will be renegotiated, at a lower price, which means the deal with Pierce is probably off.

She’s definitely in a dangerous place, but you know who also lost everything; Colin. Can’t exactly put on a resume everything he did for Logan. He looked absolutely devastated in that shot at the end of the episode.

Don't count Tom out, I think he is working with Matsson, I also think Tom gave Pierce to Shiv because he was going to sue Shiv in the Divorce for a partenership or shares of the company, now since waystar shares have tanked the Pierce deal maybe finished. So Tom will either be CEO of Waystar if he's working with Matsson or a partener of Waystar if he sues shiv for it in the Divorce.

@@aikonoklas I agree but you can never count on these writers and which way they will go, HBO series are notorious for leaving their viewers hanging. Logan dying could be somebodies dream, or the last episode just goes to black, or they could all just be in a parallel universe. Never what you think will happen and never any closer.

The actress who plays Kerry did a great job here. This is how people get after seeing something jolting or tragic. They look disheveled just like this.

It was hinted at last season by Connor that Logan was taking Maca root for virility. So I don't think a pregnancy would surprise him let alone kill him.

this is from the show succession! she was in shock here because her very wealthy, very elderly boyfriend (a ceo of a media company who's basically the main character) is having a health emergency and the rest of the people in suits are trying to figure out how to handle the situation before the public finds out, this scene is very late in the show so i'd recommend going through the previous seasons before watching this episode

Tom & Greg together are the best supporting characters ever please give them their own spin-off comedy sitcom. Maybe have them move to Milwaukee together and run a brewery.

Zoe Winters (Kerry) should be Punchline in the next Batman or Joker film.
She is the daughter of one of the victims of the Cruise, Hired by Kendal to be an assassin.
If you look at the beginning scene before he gets on the plane, it looks like they are planning on doing something to him, maybe poison, an when Roman an Kendal get the call some are calm like they were expecting it, why say I think you need to talk to your Dad like they knew he was going to die.

I read this scene maybe different from others. Kerry was in shock because Logan is dead and her position/wealthness is jeopardized. She tries to get in the conversation with all of them by saying how surprised she is. Yes she is in shock but what hits her more than that is how fast she is being put aside/left out of the game. They dont genuinely care for her, they just dont want her get involved so they pretend to care about her being in shock to tell her to stay out of it.
I think this show meant to portray Logan's death as realistically as possible, and yeah those thoughts would loosely be going through her head, but predominantly she's flipping her shit because this very significant figure in her life just died right in front of her and she can't process it. She's not in a clear enough headspace to _really_ grasp what this means for her standing in the world of Waystar. I'm not arguing that she doesn't feel that way, but this particular breakdown I think is meant to be more visceral and directionless than that
