I, Tonya “I thought being famous would be fun. I was loved for a minute. Then I was hated. Then I was a punch line. It was like being abused all over again. Only this time it was by you. All of you. You’re all my attackers too.”
Sascha Baron Cohen's rousing speech at the end of the Dictator where extolls the virtue of total autocracy would be a good comic example. He is clearly talking about the USA.
Actually Joe Eszterhas, who wrote both Basic Instinct and Sliver, has said he hated the ending of Sliver and never wrote that line. The production was notorious for many problems with how to adapt it from the Ira Levin novel. Eszterhas swore never to do an adaptation after this movie. The director and producer came up with the ending in the theatrical movie.
Thanks for mentioning that movie. We were talking about shows like Springer and I thought, wait, wasn't there a movie or a series about people going on one of those shows? I had forgotten it existed and honestly couldn't bring enough of it to mind to recall what it was.
What that I like that no one ever mentions is in La Dolce Vita. Toward the end of a film full of vapid hedonism there's a scene where the party goers gather on the beach and discover a dead sea monstrosity of some sort, it's eyes wide open. And Rubini comments something along the lines of "And yet it keeps watching."
Why are your timestamps always wrong? Either you leave timestamps out, or you mislabel them. Surely the person who edits your videos watches them back to make sure the timestamps match? For example, the last one in this list says "synaptic New York" instead of "Synecdoche, New York." How the hell does that happen? I would understand the occasional typo. But it's in every video. And some aren't even close to right, like the one I mentioned above.
Wanted is amazing. It also had bullet time moments that looks something out the Matrix. Wanted had slow motion bullet effects. After the Introduction of The Matrix.
Funny Games is frightening indeed. But I bad for the family at the end, especially the kid. Children did not deserve this. They know nothing about politics, the government, war, and the ideas of politicians. Adults like politicians, military, and the government are complex for children to know.
Joker has an amazing speech. But the main character, end up becoming a villain than being in a new light. One thing I criticized. Is the "You Don't Really Get It, Do You?" That line just feels like it's trying to cool. It didn't really feel organic, it feels forced to me. K-Pax, starring Kevin Spacey. Uses that line dialogue too. But in that film, it felt real and organic. Not trying to make look cool because it wants. Not for judging people. And didn't feel forced. Many films and tv shows nowadays, use this dialogue. And it trys to look cool for the sake of it. And now comes off as forced.
Shut In 2022. That film judged me. Over the years, drug addiction has been understood as a treatable disease rather than an innate moral failing, and addicts as people worthy of sympathy. The movie Shut In 2022, showed that drug addictive people aren't really bad people. They are misunderstood and have been through a lot. Because society didn't notice or realize how they have been through much in their lives.
Pleasantly surprised to find Funny Games and Synecdoche, New York on this list, and so high up on it too. I'd also like to reference A Clockwork Orange with the way the story was told.
The constant passive suicidel intrusive thoughts are so exhausting. Ppl that know get it. Glad you were able to take the time to take care of yourself.

Resolution is further explained in the spiritual sequel “The Endless”… it’s not a sequel per say but it’s set in the same universe and the characters all interact and some of the outcome slightly changes etc
Resolution is 'resolved' in 'The Endless' where Michael and Chris are found to be inside one of the bubbles. They're completely aware of their situation and you see Aaron and Justin meet them. The video of their future death hints at the story to come in The Endless, and I think that in one of the videos Aaron and Justin are see talking to others trying to get them to join the Death Cult from the Endless.
Glad to see some love for these great movies. Benson & Moorhead are gradually telling a really cool story. They also explore other facets of their own little indie universe in Synchronic and Something in the Dirt - the red flowers are seen or mentioned in both. Another of their movies, Spring, only has a brief reference to Carl, so it's not fully connected but it does have a nod to being set in the same universe.
Yes! I didn't like the ending the first time I watched it, but my daughter wanted to see it so I gave it another go, and got it the second time around. We've seen it a few more times since.
I usually don't mind misconceptions, but I do find it extremely annoying for anyone to describing Kevin Sorbo's character from "God's Not Dead" as an "Atheist". He isn't. At the most minimalist, he's an Anti-Theist. Better yet, he's would be best described as the "Lost Sheep" who turned away from God, since his character still believes in a God, but hates him because God took his wife. That is NOT an atheist. As a creationist, Kevin Sorbo's interpretation of atheism is mean, hurtful, and completely inaccurate as per typical of all theists who do not understand that "atheism" is "absence of theism"; " a person who does not have faith in theistic concepts". So you calling his character "an atheist" is not only inaccurate, but is also pandering to this constant misconception of what atheism is. Just saying, ;D
6:48 I would argue that if your blood, sweat, and tears don't add up to a good movie, that's not the audience's problem. We don't take that into a judgment on whether or not something is a good movie, and I don't think we should. That's not to say we can't separately appreciate hard work
now I understand why I hate the wolf of wall street, I never liked the character, why his story was relevant, and why people who liked it never acknowledge that dicaprio's chatacter is the worst

Memories of Murder is one of my all-time favorite movies.
Scorcese usually makes his objectively scumbag characters charming on screen. It's partly why his films are great.
💯
Shows how gullible we can be to someone charming...
Yeh smart thinking of him
I like your last comment. It's perfect
How about the Truman show that movie says something about media obsession especially in the final fade out.
Yes Truman wants to live e I'm reality while the viewers want (what else is on) want to live in fantasy

Ringmaster R.I.P. Jerry Springer BTW But That film was clever commentary on the Popularity of The Jerry Springer Show during the 90's

Memories of Murder is a masterpiece!
It’s an interesting concept ‘being judged by a movie’ so to speak. In a way it’s smart and fair. After all, I’m judging it too.

#9 reminds me that Prime Video seemed to want to make its own B movie called The Voyeurs. The twist will leave you concerned about your own privacy.
I love the American killing spree movie cause its so true..

A Time To Kill - I didn't think the closing statement was remotely unexpected, but the audience is still drawn into the position of the jury.

SLIVER (by Ira Levin) was a MUCH better book than this shit movie. Did anyone ever want to see the spare Baldwin in a movie?
