    It’s not easy finding an in-depth fly rod for salmon video with great insights on specs. Thank you sir

    If you can find them, the Okuma SLV 7/8 is a good bit cheaper than that Reddington reel. You can get a Riversider Rod and Okuma Reel for under $120, and believe it or not for $22 KastKing Propel fly line is more than sufficient to handle the Kings and comes pre-backed, so you don't need to buy separate backing. This is exactly the setup I use, for a rod and reel I'm using only a handful of times a year, it's a great way to get into the game on the cheap.

    I tried my buddy's Riverside rod out this past weekend in Pulaski. It was a 9 foot I think. Had a liquid reel and was nice enough where I'd buy one myself.

    so when you going up? I will be up at browns for a week starting the 2nd. I matched this reel with a 9ft 9 weight redington fly rod, the design is amazing on this reel, very welll made, cant weight to test its limits on some monster kings. Super smooth, the drag is excellent i have no complaints so far.

    9/10 is what I use for tarpon and groupers, a 7 weight Spey or a 8wt full wells is plenty sufficient.

      Would you recommend the 7/8 or 8/9 weight riversider? Also, 9 ft or 10 ft? Thanks man

    i grabbed that same reel and i got a redington 4 pc 9wt rod comes with lifetime warranty, i figure i will break it at one point and get it replaced. I go every year so i dont mind spending 60 bucks more for lifetime warranty. I used a coupon and got it for 115 on reelflyrod.com and purchased the rest of my gear on amazon. I snapped my fly rod last year and needed an upgrade. headed up to browns campground on the 1st of october to slay some salmon!

      How do you like that reel man? Thinking about getting one but it looks huge.

    • @vansooj1
      @vansooj1 4 роки тому +2

      @@Jerry-xx8dx i got the reel today and i am pairing it with a 9ft 9 weight redington pole. the reel is only slightly wider than my 6wt reel and not much heavier at all, i love the design and it has a great smooth drag.. i love the feeling of a small 6ft 6 with 6 weight reel setup, i used that when i first started fly fishing but it was way to light.. harder to land fish.. i had so many hook ups, but i actually snapped the rod on a fish with no drag on just palming it. I wanted to get correct size, they recomend 9ft 9 weight, some people use 8wt or 7wt but i got the 9/10 reel and the 9wt pole. you will be happy to have a nice large reel on when you hook into a fish, plus its not like you have to cast far its only short casting most of the time. i will let you know after my trip.. but i like the reel so far.
