Yay! More Severance content! 💙 Thank-you! My guesses on the coming season: 1. I think *_Hello, Ms. Cobel_* is simply because Harmony gets rehired at Lumen, due to her quick intervention with the innies ‘escaping’. So, I could see that as referencing Milchick greeting her upon her return- in an episode centered around the aftermath of the overtime-contingency debacle. 2. *_Goodbye, Mrs. Selvig_* might have to do with Lumen making Harmony retire that persona. I don’t believe that she is severed but just created the Selvig personality to spy on Mark, since I’m sure that Harmony has ulterior motives when it comes to Lumen. Milcheck previously alluded to the fact that Lumen wasn’t okay with Harmony’s interference with Mark’s outies’s life, so they may take her back but end her snooping and stuff. 3. John Turturro’s “incremental” comment, makes me think that we will be getting TONS of flashbacks. I see it as _little_ bits of the present story being sprinkled in with the flashback centered episodes. So, we may get more plot progress/answers, in the form of seeing prior incidents. 4. I believe that Helly’s outie is actually a *good guy* working covertly to bring down Lumen. Previously, I theorized that Helly was a ‘wild-child’ type character who was forced to settle down and work the family business. After giving the looming love triangle of Helly, Mark, and Gemma/Ms. Casey some thought, however, I believe that it has to be discovered that Gemma is actually a _bad guy_ who worked with Lumen prior to her “accident.” Then, we as the audience won’t be so conflicted about innie Mark and Helly being together, while outie Mark suffers the loss of his beloved wife who he has no idea is still alive. 5. I feel like Petey’s story will be a big focus on the flashbacks, as well as why Regabhi turned on Lumen and started working to reintegrate severed people/employees. 6. I think that some of what we see in the trailer with Mark at Lumen, is a dream sequence, while the rest is flashback to when he first joined Lumen. Perhaps we’ll see that there are more severed versions of the workers that are in-play as _back-ups,_ in case something goes awry with the current innies. But who knows? 🤷🏾♀️😂 I’m just excited to jump back into the show. ☺️
wow, the cobel-selvig-thing will be epic! patricia arquette plays this character so well, it got super intense at times. can't wait. thanks for the video
Yeah, I'm glad things are finally getting back to normal. It had to be agonizing for everyone involved in both shows, especially when they knew they had something special on their hands right before things hit the fan..
Severance season 1 simultaneously crested such a cozy yet cold dystopian atmosphere. It felt more like a glimpse at a not too far flung future than fiction at times. I just thought the color grading, dark scenes, use of specific types of accent lighting, there was something comforting yet slightly uncomfortable under the lovable characters aside from the chips. There’s so many mysteries and I think there’s also something comforting about a mystery when you know something about it but not everything AND when it doesn’t impact you. Severance needs to peel the page back a bit while introducing new layers of mysteries beyond the answers it provides.
Assuming those names aren’t confirmed to specific episodes, “Who is Alive?” Would have to be the premiere right? Given the last line of season 1 was “SHE’S ALIVE!!!”
I think we'll find out that Lumon's efforts are to find the perfect employees in severed form, and then once found, they keep the person severed while someone dealing with the outtie? Probably some sinister efforts there? Perhaps Cobel is one of these employees? One of my thoughts on the show. Awesome videos, btw, keep 'em comin'!
Kinda weird theory for the Cobel episodes: Myrtle Eagan’s consciousness is in Harmony Cobels brain (so Cobels innie is still Harmonies innie version, but her outie is Myrtle). What if Charlotte Cobel and Myrtle were best friends or lovers or Myrtle was even Harmony’s stepmom and so Harmony knew her personally while she was still alive. So maybe Myrtle and the other Eagans found a way to upload their soul/ personality onto a computer and they can effectively live forever (in perpetuity). That’s why the computers in MDR are so old. Maybe the dead Eagans’ consciousnesses were uploaded into a computer after their death to preserve them. But only when Helena Eagan was a child did Jame Eagan invent the severance chip. Jame might have found a way to upload the consciousness of the past Eagan CEOs into another body. Maybe their personalities can be transferred via „sorting“ their consciences, like Kier did into 4 categories. („Should you tame your tempers as I did mine then the world will become but your appendage.“ -Kier Eagen). When MDR sorts the numbers, they make them feel something. Maybe that feeling isn’t their own innies feeling, but a personality trait of a dead Eagan. Maybe Milchick, Graner and Cobel already inhabit the consciousness of an Eagan CEO and that’s why we have 4 MDR employees because there are 4 Eagans left (Jame will share Hellys body when he dies, that’s his „revolving“ and one of the Eagan CEOs was sharing Petes body, which could explain why Harmony/Myrtle hung his chip around her neck). If Harmony and her Mom knew Myrtle since childhood, I bet Harmony’d be ok with“sharing”“ her brain and body with Myrtle. Both Myrtle and Harmony would also have good reason to want to“resurrect”“ Charlotte. Harmony would want her mother back and Myrtle her partner/ or best friend. Maybe „the board“ is all the other Eagans, inserted via severance chip into other peoples bodies, which is why we never see them (Or properly hear them speak, because maybe they are sharing the body of someone we already know). This could explain, why Harmony was so furious when she got fired, because if she was in Myrtle form then, that would mean, that Myrtle too would have to die when Harmony dies and she can’t live forever anymore (by inserting her chip into another „host“ after Harmony’s natural death for example). Honestly, I don't think this is theory true, would be a bit too wild maybe, I just had this thought and wanted to share :D
Well dang this just made me have a possible light bulb moment theory. We know that the contingency plan allows them to turn off and on the severance whether or not they are in or not of the building. So it’s another level of illusion that it can only happen there. Perhaps Cobel is severed but doesn’t know when she’s going to be “on the clock” or not.
I've been dying of thirst for Season 2 of "Severance" so thanks for that "deep dive" into what may come. The two titles suggest that Ms. Cobel and Mrs. Selvig are in some way separate. I thought that she was just one character who could freely shift from the real world into the severed world. But maybe, after what's she's seen, it's in the interest of the Lumon Corp. to activate her chip. (I bet she has a chip implanted, but it's not in fully severed mode all the time.) So she will be Ms. Cobel all the time, just as Gemma seems to be in one-sided severed mode all the time. Recently I re-watched "2001: A Space Odyssey" and got goosebumps watching H.A.L.'s lobotomy scene. (It doesn't matter how many time I see it, I'm on the edge of my seat every time.) Maybe Mrs. Selvig will experience something similar as she realizes that she can be only one, Ms. Cobel, and Mrs. Selvig will have to be shut down.
Yeah, that's pretty much how I read her, right now. I think she is severed but her status is somehow different, or even unique, and she's trying figure out if she can reintegrate.
Cobel/Selvig's actions in the season 1 finale imply a very low probability that she is severed, at least not in the same way as the other Lumon employees are. She knew when Mark called her by the wrong name. She juggled the two identities quite effectively. She did damage control regarding Mark's innie having "escaped" from Lumon. If Cobel/Selvig is severed, we've yet to see her "unsevered" persona, or... something else entirely is going on with her.
So idk if anyone will see this but I just went through my first rewatch after watching the series during it's first season release, and I noticed something about Ms. Cobel. It's obvious on first watch that she's a bit nutty for Eagens and is part of something larger, having gone to a Lumon academy and soforth. But when she's fired in E8, she's given her belongings by Milchick and left to walk herself out. Where does she go you might ask? The same hallway & exit that Helly R does when attempting to escape in the beginning of S1. She is completely unaffected by this transition point unlike Helly is. I believe this confirms the question of Ms. Cobel being severed or not, as she is the same person inside and outside of Lumon premises.
(I have not read the books) "The Syndrome" appears to be Seretonin Syndrome. It's what happens to some people with SSRI's and similar anti depressants. It comes from having too much seretonin in the brain. SSRI keeps your Seretonin levels elevated by blocking how your brain "recycles" Seretonin after use. This is how they counter some, but not all, forms of depression. But it can work too well for some people, and create intense side effects. Seretonin Syndrome can be fatal. It can also lead to sluice slide thoughts and ideations. The symptoms of "The Syndrome" are pretty much exactly Seretonin Syndrome. I suspect the water is drugged with an early 90's era SSRI.
Random comment incoming: i noticed that the main colors used in this show are red, blue, green, and yellow. With red and blue being the most seen. I couldn't help but notice those colors match the 4 tempers colors on the boxes they put the numbers in on their computers. Can't help but think that might mean something.
I would give my big toe in exchange for an early release of severance at this point. I can’t wait. I check for updates every day and it’s getting unhealthy
I’m excited for Severance, but actually way more for Silo s2. Maybe because it feels like a bit of the flip side of Fallout, but I really want to see the wasteland and what is going on in the other silos.
Somehow I am really eager to know why Cobel has a new office in the pilot episode and what happened there…was it related to Petey’s reintegration? And why nobody in the team noticed that Petey was reintegrated or discussed his behavior - I wonder if they used the “goldfish” program to wipe all their brains of those 2 weeks…
I think next season we're going to see that Helly's outtie actually doesn't really support severance, and might even have MDR's backs in terms of helping them escape. If so, here's why: - Its possible she only underwent the procedure due to massive pressure from her father and the company. We really don't see any evidence that she does support their practices other than thinking the chip was pretty as a child. We also only ever see outtie Helly when she's in front of cameras, so she may just pedalling this "severance is great" opinion for the viewers - but doesn't actually believe it herself. - Someone asks her how many drinks she's had at the event in the last episode (with seemingly genuine concern), which might be a throwaway line, but could hint that Helena is known for drinking a lot, maybe as a coping mechanism for knowing that the procedure she must endorse professionally is actually extremely immoral. - All of the casual conversation she has with Milchick when she's trying to leave the building is very friendly (and in my opinion she seems a teeny bit apprehensive), e.g. "I really don't want to be in there, do I?" which contrasts massively with the later video saying "You are not a person" - which makes me think she was being "forced" to make that video, again due to pressure from her innie-hating father as a cruel way to keep innie Helly in line (which we know from Ep 9, Jame doesn't see her innie as a person whereas Helly might). - The season 2 teaser shows Helly getting back into the lift and arriving on the severed floor with Mark. She knows for sure how dangerous innie Helly is for Lumon, especially in combination with Mark and MDR, so I can see absolutely no other reason why she would choose to go back. Especially as her publicity stunt of being an innie is (presumably) a failure after innie Helly made that speech - so what possible benefit is there to this for Lumon? - Ben Stiller has said that every severed character is in some step of a healing process, leading to them taking the position. Maybe Helly is trying to cope with knowing that her life is on track to become the CEO of Lumon (which she secretly believes to be an extremely bad thing) and being severed is a retreat from the stress of that. Massive tinfoil hat speculation here, and I'm not even sure if that makes sense. I remember having some more points to back it - and I'll edit this comment if they come back to me!

Hi, um. Severance season 2 trailer breakdown please?
I appreciate you. ❤
If so, here's why:
- Its possible she only underwent the procedure due to massive pressure from her father and the company.
