This song will be with me till my death. I will never forget the very first time I listen It. I´ve never heard before about Belle and Sebastian and It changed my life. The best Scottish thing since whisky. Thanks guys!
The one band that you just can’t classify as being one single genre... they’re not chamber pop, they’re not lo-fi, they’re not folk rock, they’re simply Belle and Sebastian. A wonder of modern day music.
It's hard to believe it's coming up for 25 years since I sat in a classroom and listened to this demo along with the rest of the class from this wee group called "Belle and Sebastian" and we all went "Wow". History in the making as we all went and voted them to be the band that went onto do great things. Tigermilk is a good album but it went on a loop in the classroom stereo and I can't listen to it even still today. Those were the days..
I burned out on The Beatles and couldn't listen for a decade. Now I'm easing my way back in. Try it. Just make Tigermilk the least played. You'll get there.
reminds me of my school days during the O Levels...back when I first started listening to them in high school, and thought I could relate to each and every song they had...listening to their songs during the exams late in the night because my mom would kill me if I had done it during the day...I remember it all too well. Best band ever in my opinion.
“O’ love of mine would you condescend to help me because I am stupid and blind” so glad I got to see them live years ago, which I think was the last time the classic line up toured together
I saw Belle and Sebastian play the tiger milk album at a free concert in the Glasgow botanic gardens. Must have been around 2014. I got of my noodle on bucky but I remember this song as clearly today as I did back then... it stopped me in my tracks. Still one of my favourite albums of all time.
Great video, it looks like a real labor of love and is beautiful enough to make anyone fall for this band and their peculiar little world. If the song didn't cut off at the end, it would be perfect.
As much as I enjoy their music, as many of their albums as I have in my library, I must confess I didn't know that the guy on the cover of "Boy with the Arab Strap" was a member of the band.
I just got a chance to listen to this with sound. I especially love the bit after the opening break. The chill electric part, the drums and the bass are all perfectly layered a feel oh so good! Thanks a lot for showing me these guys.
beautiful and strange song. strange because it acts as an equalizer of my moods: it gives me joy when I'm sad and melancholy when I'm happy. a bit like "il vitello dai piedi di balsa"
well 126 000 odd now! they are very versatile, this style of this song reminds me of an old 60's band, Love who was headed by Aurthur Lee. they have songs posted on youtube, look for De Capo album! ps, black eyed peas bllllaaaarrrggghhhhhh!
By now I hope that you have their whole collection in vinyl. But if I were to answer this question 13 years ago, I would have to say Dear Catastrophe Waitress because it's very approachable and they have so many different kinds of songs on that album--e.g., slow, fast, bouncy, thought provoking etc. It's friggin' sweet.
Frankly I'd rather listen to their albums then go see them live. The lead guy doesn't have the strongest voice in the world which you overlook on the recordings because the songs are so good. My favourite group of the nineties for sure and '' The State I Am In '' is my fave track of theirs.
Dude, you have to see them live. Everytime they come to Seattle, they just bring the house down ... in a way that only they can. I remember hearing this for the 1st time live. It changed my life and I'd heard this song 1,000 times. They're that great. If you live in the Seattle area, I'll buy your ticket. Having someone experience them live for the 1st time is worth every penny for me. Cheers!
Hey, Wookie, usually the best things are reserved for a few people with good taste. Being popular isn't the same as being good, I'm sure you know that.
start off with "Tiger Milk" and then follow that up with "If You're Feeling Sinister". Then report back about how you like them and what you think... :D
@TheWhiteTomatoes Nothing whiter? Somewhere there must be a band formed by members from an Icelandic barber school. In the spirit of admitting my lack of authority on the subject (never seen a Scots art school) I will concede to your apparent expertise.
@TheWhiteTomatoes I think know what you mean, but I disagree. You play this at a white power rally, you no longer get to breath. If you really believe what you said, I recommend you try playing this song amidst the Aryan Nations.
No. It opens up with a live performance and then the studio version kicks in. It was made afterwards for their Fans Only DVD so previous footage was cut together for this. That's definitely not lip syncing. Cheers.
This song will be with me till my death. I will never forget the very first time I listen It. I´ve never heard before about Belle and Sebastian and It changed my life. The best Scottish thing since whisky. Thanks guys!
this is music that never gets out of style.
"indie" is a huge umbrella term, but I've noticed most artists labelled that often make music that could've made sense in the 60s and still do now.
it was never popular enough to lose a large following

100%. That's a perfect way to describe them ... without describing them. lol Cheers

Tigermilk is one of the best records ever and this one the best song in it. Special.
One of my favorite songs ever. And I am very picky :)
I love Belle & Sebastian
🔥🔥 I relate to this song's lyric's all the way 🔥🔥

Great video, it looks like a real labor of love and is beautiful enough to make anyone fall for this band and their peculiar little world. If the song didn't cut off at the end, it would be perfect.
great clip!
they're all such lovely people
such a nice band! Nothing describes B&S better than the word nice!
i like this song a lot. a lot of their music has this .. better-sweet undertone to it. well to me at least. i love it all.
Stuart = STUNNING!
the best band in the world
The lovliest performance of one of my favourite belle and Sebastian songs. I always come back to this, thank you so much for sharing.
As much as I enjoy their music, as many of their albums as I have in my library, I must confess I didn't know that the guy on the cover of "Boy with the Arab Strap" was a member of the band.
Beans himself! (Chris Geddes)
its just straight up the best one.
I have never seen live footage of this song, thanks :)
im not meaning to knock the rest of their work... i LOVE it all! This one is just a personal favorite for me
What a beautiful song.
Oh i love this song so very much!! :)
This was wonderfully put-together. :) One of my fave songs from B&S. And Stuart looks especially wonderful in the opeing concert clip *sighs*
I just got a chance to listen to this with sound. I especially love the bit after the opening break. The chill electric part, the drums and the bass are all perfectly layered a feel oh so good! Thanks a lot for showing me these guys.
i was obsessed with this song during my lonely college days. this clip is a jewel! cheers mate, may i ask where it's from?
I was obsessed with sing also. my favourite song of B&S.
I believe the video is taken from "Fans Only" - the DVD that was produced a few years ago for B&S fans
Great song ...lovely flow to it !
haven't listened to all of this yet but it seems pretty good.
wow, this is such an amazing video! Thank you for that. The song is wonderful.
He gets better with age. Sigh. I want to meet him so terribly much.
Have you had a chance yet? It's been 13 years after all.
carpinterita, I, too, am in love with him. He's marvelous.
Amazing!
Love the video too
@ri394 it's from the 'fans only' dvd, last video before credits
Thank yon for thy intellect. Wasn't there a children's cartoon called 'Belle And Sebastian' in the late 80's?

wow!!!!
At the time.., we were stupid for liking this over Oasis, Coldplay etc. Not so stupid now. Time and pressure, time and pressure.
The State I Am is a book isn't it? They reference it all time. Who wrote the book?
Scott Neiss wrote the book that the song is about and that they are always referencing right? Just looked it up on Amazon.
I shall check it out Bo Selecta. Wasn't the cartoon of 'Belle and Sebastian' about a boy and a big white dog?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
goosebumps
this video made me cry somehow..
tele magic
🤣🤣🤣👻✌️simply perfect
❤
awesomeawesomeawesome
Was this at the Hollywood Bowl?
This is a lovely video, where did you get the footage from?
transaltlanticism from their DVD “For Fans Only”
anyone know the show in the intro?
Thanks til ye. Where did they get their name from?
Which albums of theirs should one buy?

lol'd hey man black eyed peas are AWESOME!! haha i can't even type that without cringing! xD
@shiraharalson68 yeah i guess appreciation of Belle & Sebastian is a definite prerequisite for a date
@TheWhiteTomatoes Stow College actually, which is not an art school.
1:46 Ohhhhh dear...

Good song echoes of Love and Donovan
"The name Belle & Sebastian is inspired by Belle et Sébastien, a children's book by French writer Cécile Aubry."

FUCKING BRILLIANT
What concert's this from?
correct, it was a french adaption of tom and jerry.
@dowling1981 yup...there was.
and you are welcome.
@charlysaenz , how many do they have?
Frankly I'd rather listen to their albums then go see them live. The lead guy doesn't have the strongest voice in the world which you overlook on the recordings because the songs are so good. My favourite group of the nineties for sure and '' The State I Am In '' is my fave track of theirs.
you just don't get it
See them live while they're still touring. I guarantee you won't regret it.
Dude, you have to see them live. Everytime they come to Seattle, they just bring the house down ... in a way that only they can. I remember hearing this for the 1st time live. @TheWhiteTomatoes what do u mean?
Hey, Wookie, usually the best things are reserved for a few people with good taste. Being popular isn't the same as being good, I'm sure you know that.

@TheWhiteTomatoes LOL. Best comment ever in a Belle & Sebastian video.
@Zurrutero That is something to cheer for my friend! More people need to hear this majestic music!!!!
@MissJasminexx haha yea :)
start off with "Tiger Milk" and then follow that up with "If You're Feeling Sinister". Then report back about how you like them and what you think...

benicassim 2002
Oh, how I envy you, hahaha.
this is from the 'fans only' dvd.
i guess i'm the only fan here.
jk.
I don't date girls who don't like Belle and Sebastian.
I love this song. Very first B&S song I ever heard and fell in love with the band. Check out my cover of this.
@TheWhiteTomatoes Nothing whiter?
Somewhere there must be a band formed by members from an Icelandic barber school. In the spirit of admitting my lack of authority on the subject (never seen a Scots art school) I will concede to your apparent expertise.
Neither do I. Of course, I don't date girls. :)
@TheWhiteTomatoes
I think know what you mean, but I disagree. You play this at a white power rally, you no longer get to breath. If you really believe what you said, I recommend you try playing this song amidst the Aryan Nations.
@TheWhiteTomatoes
I could name whiter bands for you, also:
Fleetwood Mac, Dead Kennedys, and (case closed:) The Postal Service.
Belle and Sebastian are not the band.. They are a cult
Lip synch
No. It opens up with a live performance and then the studio version kicks in. It was made afterwards for their Fans Only DVD so previous footage was cut together for this. That's definitely not lip syncing. Cheers.
I've asked myself this question a million times. They are so damn good....
I did. He was an absolute champ...
that's the way it was cut for the Fans Only DVD.
My pleasure my good man.
only 64,000 views for the best band in the world playing the best pop song ever written. Sad. Well, at least we have The Black Eyed Peas! *vomit*
