- Hey fountain pen lovers, ink lovers, paper lovers:
I think this is my 2nd pen purchase of the year. I must have that wrong because it’s hard to believe.
I’ve always wanted to try an Opus 88 but haven’t been too attracted to the past designs. When this pink sparkly one came out, I had to get my hands on it. I had my doubts that the shimmer and colour wouldn’t be very pretty. I’m picky when it comes to the type of pink I like. This one doesn’t disappoint me and it is actually a wonderful shade of pink.
Some of you follow me for our similar taste in fountain pens. Well, I think this one is going to be a favourite of mine. Let’s cut to the chase, the nib doesn’t compare to the classic Pilot, Sailor, or Platinum nibs - so don’t get your hopes up. It is a Jowo nib which means it is not a proprietary make. Just like Schmidt nibs, these nibs are purchased or commissioned by pen makers to outfit their pen bodies. I do not have much further knowledge than that though.
This Opus pen though looks stunning. It is a decent writing experience - it does the job.
In this pen video, I unbox, test out some sample pink inks, and then do a writing test.
I hope you enjoy.

Wow that pen is stunning! I love the ink colour you chose to match it with too ❤
Thank you! It's the only ink I have that actually matches.
Its stunning! Looks so much better on video than in pictures.
That's why I was so surprised. Definitely a new favourite.
I have several Opus 88s, and I love them all. Have fun!
Thank you! So far I am enjoying it.
Beautiful pen! Someone told me to also dip the nib of eyedropper pens. Creates a suction that helps the ink flow? No idea how the science works, but I found that out helped.
Oh dipping the nib probably helps start the capillary action. I'll try that next time! 💙
That's a pretty pen wow! The ink you chose is a perfect match, too.
Thx Sandy! 💕
Ah! That’s a beautiful pen! Very helpful to see how their Fine nib writes.
Hey, glad it helped!
Really enjoyed this video. Thank you. 👏
Thx, always a pleasure! 🤎
It looks so nice and pretty too
👌🏼💕
Something about this pen called to me too, it is my first-ever pink pen and I am really enjoying it! I love eyedropper pens, so it is surprising that this is my first Opus 88. I find myself twirling the pen to see the lovely chatoyant shimmering! For the price point, I am happy with the performance. I love that the nib can be easily swapped out, the ink capacity and that it is a wet writer.
Oh I didn't know the nib could be swapped. That's a good thing. I find myself twirling it too all the time! It's just so pretty. Pink pens are nice 👌🏼
Oh, Opus 88 is one of my favourite fountain pens (next to Leonardo, Esterbrook and Nahvalur)!
I like how these Opus pens look, excited to see their future releases. I love Esterbrook too!
I've had my 👁 on this pen so I'm glad you went first. 😅 The pictures I saw online does not do this pen justice. Based on your video, the pen is 1000% prettier.
Diamine Autumn Oak, Teranishi Opera Rose, or Robert Oster Dusky Pink might be pretty too.
Did you mention where you purchased the pen?
Thx for those ink recommendations! I purchased from wonderpens. I hope my video helps you to decide!
Mine took forEVER to start flowing, too. I opened the valve and did the gentle taps on the paper and swiped my finger down the nib slit. It took a good 15 minutes or so. You definitely have to open the valve to get it going, because you put the ink in the barrel and it has no way to get into the feed unless you open the valve.
I thought it was just my Opus taking forever. I wonder why it took so much longer than other pens to start writing. I opened up the ink chamber right away too.
@@toxmot I am now remembering that it was the same with my two Opus 88 mini pocket pens. It must be something to do with either their feeds or their filling system! Maybe they engineer them to release ink slowly on purpose? Who knows!
@@gingerpeachy ah, interesting! It must be an Opus thing then.
Are you still liking this pen 8 months later? I am doing research on it 😊
Yes I am! 😊
@@toxmot Yay! Thanks for responding. I made my order earlier today 😁
