“Question Mark” folder appeared on start up of my MacBook Pro. I did some research. “Hardrive Cable” was the possible issue. Ordered the cable, used this video to aid in repair and now MacBook is working. Thank you so much!!!
How much was the cable
I got this problem after i change the cable, before this my problem is my MacBook trun off by itself after being move or pick up, what should i do? I really need help
Now that's how you make a tutorial!!!!!
Cliff Latham absolutely flawless.
Awesome right!!! So happy.
I followed the directions and was sweating the entire time. I bought the part 3 weeks ago and waited till today to fix it and it WORKED!!!
Jilly humor Me too, I felt like a surgeon 🙈🤯
I followed the directions in video and now Macbook Pro is back to life. You guys are legends! Can't thank you enough, made it really idiot proof. All the best!
PS: Make sure you have a Philips 000 screw driver, the 2 smallest screws (2.57 in video) were really stubborn and didn't unscrew with a flat head I used for the other screws.
Sliding the ribbon cable back into the socket was the most stressful thing I've experienced in a lonnnnggggg time omg.... and he made it look like it was so easy 😣
Well thank God it's up and running 👍🏼😁
I broke just it. Had to order another cable...
@@rodmbs Oh no, my heart goes out to you!!!
It's fucking impossible. I now regret even starting this project.
@@OMG_BeCkY be patient because it will be rewarding when you get it
@@Nrgy1111 I eventually just reassembled my MBP without it even being fully in there and it still fired up! There was no way to get it in there, it was too tiny and would just bend every time I tried.
I want to give a big THANK YOU, you guys are awesome. I already upgraded my HDD to a SSD and my 4 GB of RAM to 16 GB. I was a little hesistant at first but I ordered the Hard Drive Cable regardless. After watching your video for the 1st time, it gave users like myself confidence to do this. So I did and my Mac is running smoothly. Thanks again Subscribed & liked!
Absolutely perfect tutorial. Clear images, detailed descriptions, and properly following thru the reassembly too (not just ‘reverse what you’re done’). Have just brought my laptop back to life and I could not be happier! Thank you for this 👏👏
Your tutorial saved our laptops life.
Thought my HDD failed since it's now close to 6 years old. So I decided to go to an SSD, and when I did, I still only got about 10% success rate when trying to start up. The other 90% of the time the computer doesn't recognize the hard drive in it.
A little research revealed that this cable wearing out is a common problem with mid 2012 Macbook Pros. Luckily the part is only about $10, and with this tutorial it looks like it will be really easy to replace. Thanks for making such a good and clear video. Looking forward to having my laptop up and running again.
Went great. Commenting from the laptop. No issues. Thanks again for your help.
I have the same exact issue! All of these tutorials on UA-cam about upgrading to an SSD but no one talks about this!
Hey man where did you buy your cable?
This comment is giving me the confidence I need to do this myself.
Same issue dude, I'm looking forward to trying this fix!
So helpful, thank you!
One critique: when Part 2 begins, it might be helpful for some to specify that the removal of the circuit board from the drive mounting bracket is only necessary if the user doesn't have a replacement bracket. When I ordered my replacement cable, it came already wired to a new mounting bracket.
That little yellow strip almost got the best of me. Twice. So tiny and bendy. So contrarian.
I second this, I need to order a new part because the bracket holding the cable popped off on me. But, I didn't even need to do this part as my cable was already mounted on the new mounting bracket :( Everything was going well until this point
Yay!!! It worked 🙌🏽 Thank you for this detailed tutorial 🙏🏽
Thank you for this! I replaced my cable and added some insulation using electrical tape, which I learned about through another video. Worked like a charm and hopefully this fix will last awhile.
This tutorial saved my laptop, so easy to follow and effective. Thank you so much!!
Glad it was helpful for you!
This was the most thorough and detailed tutorial I found, others weren’t as helpful or didn’t show how to put the new belt back on. Thank you so much!
The guy at the shop told me it would be 300 bucks to fix (he thought it was a bad hard drive) Spent $20.24 and watched this video. This actually works. Like i'm using the laptop to type this comment, lol
Thanks folks. Fighting the good fight.
Good job man.. We can fix anything these days...
Where did you buy the cable from ?
sai ram hey I just saw one on amazon for 14 bucks
Getting ready to install a ss drivr and new cable in my mid 2012 macbook pro

Awesome video! Easy to follow and made the job so much easier to do. I'm trying it with my new lead tomorrow.
EXCELLENT video!!! My MacBook is back up and running! I attempted to use Geek Squad at Best Buy but they told me it'd be $99 for a simple diagnosis!! Instead I used this video and the replacement part was only $14.90! Thanks!!
Amazing tutorial. Back up and running! Thank you
Awesome tutorial! Easy to follow and helped me fix my a Mac! Thank you so much!
Success! Delighted to report that replacing the hard drive cable on my old MacBook Pro brought it back to life. Superb tutorial, thank you so much! I would never have attempted it without your step-by-step guidance. As others have mentioned, 4:31 is the trickiest step, requires a little patience (and good eyesight).
Glad it was helpful for you!
Thanks for the tutorial! I followed the directions and everything went well and my computer is working again.
Great tutorial it was incredibly helpful. My replacement cable, however, did not have adhesive on the battery indicator light so I had to improvise.
I have had to use my MacBook via USB to SATA adapter for over a year, and the experience is miserable. I don't know why I didn't do this sooner, but I used your easy tutorial to replace the cable in my Mac, and everything went swimmingly. Thank you.
Thank you!! I have no computer experience at all but I got tired of having to pay >100 to get this replaced every 1.5-2 years. I followed this tutorial and my computer is working well now. Just remember to turn the screws the right direction folks; otherwise you risk ruining them. My 2012 MacBook pro is working great now!
Great job! My sons MAC is back up and running. Thank you so much!
This is an excellent instructional video. Could not be better. Thanks.
Just watched this video after buying the part. My MacBook worked instantly nothing was lost. Such a simple solution that I didn’t have go to the apple store for.
Great tutorial, I have tried everything to speed up my Macbook. I think this is the next item to try.

Glad you found it helpful!
I was able to replace the cable successfully, THANK YOU!!!!
My macbook pro is up and running again!!! This is the third time that I have replaced the cable - a friend did the replacement for me the first time and the second time, I was able to get it replaced at my school’s lab because Apple covered the costs even if my computer was out of warranty. I went back to the lab when I first saw the flashing folder a few months ago and they said that Apple doesn’t cover the cost of this replacement anymore. I called Apple support and was on the phone with them for more than 30 minutes rebooting & checking my hard drive(sigh, they wouldn’t listen even if the lab had checked my drive and told me that it was the cable). At last, my computer booted up but I knew that it was only a matter of time so I ordered the cable. Today, the flashing folder with a qn mark appeared again and I waited the whole day to get to it just in case it resolved itself again. When I got home, I watched your tutorial and was able to the follow along just fine! THANK YOU AGAIN!!!
Great video, made for a quick simple repair.
Thanks for your video! You help me to change the flat cable to a new one.
Thanks to your wonderful DIY tutorial I could replace my mid2012 13" bacbook's flat cable with a new one. Brilliant job. Jobs! rest in peace
SUCH AN EASY TUTORIAL TO FOLLOW! SO GLAD TO BAVE MY LAPTOP BACK UP AND FOR SO CHEAP
Just used this to fix my MacBook after months of the blinking folder. I decided once and for all to try replacing this cable.....guess what....IT WORKS! I am now typing this review on my MacBook Pro!!!! I can't believe this! Thank you so much!!! Also, if anyone is a little confused with how to fold the cable, I used the old cable that needed replacing as an example of where to fold. Thanks again!
@Mista S I got it from Amazon

Incredibly helpful and straightforward. I now have a working computer again.
Enrique Hansel,
We are glad to be able to provide a installation video that made your upgrade simple and that your machine is running again!
Thank You. works Perfect
Works a treat. Recently upgraded to a SSD which was followed a week later by a catastrophic failure resulting in an almost completely frozen machine. I found a SATA cable which came fully assembled with all the tools and didn't require any fiddly reattaching of the small cable as seen in this video. Now have a 2012 MBPro which is better than when I first bought it. Excellent video.
@Mista S Mojave
Just recently upgraded to 8GB of RAM and now even better.
Thanks very much for this tutorial, my laptop works a treat again! I thought my ssd had died, I wish I’d watched this video before I trashed it! 🤨 #nobackup 😱
Great video, love the drone in the background. You could have let her narrate the entire video 😉
