Out of my 900+ videos, this is the first time I have EVER addressed this topic in the detail you are hearing today. I hope you enjoy this Alpha Destiny exclusive!
u guys older than 30s .. im embarssed u guys have to see youtube comments full of 20 year olds and late teens that troll.. u guys are way to mature to see that stuf haha
Alex, this video is amazing. I hate the idea that strength training can't get you jacked or lifting for hypertrophic gains won't make you strong. This video completely illustrates why that idea is wrong.
Thanks bro, I think the gains will come very fast since I'm new to this exercise. I still need to perfect the technique, and get some frequency in this lift. 650+ is definitely happening.
Rob Sawinski same here, man. This is my third week. It's really fun, imho, but challenging. I upped my squat in two weeks, approximately by 30 lbs. My deadlifts gotten stronger too. I'm a bit worried about chest, but, I'm following it.
i put a friend of mine on this program and he made great gains overall, the program will slowly build up ur physique stap by stap. its not made to focus on 1 muscle group more than another because your whole body just needs to grow, after you hitting numbers similar to what Alex recommands you can work on ur weakpoints.
don't worry about your chest lagging dude, I completed his program a long time ago and you'll be benching 2 plates when it's complete, so you won't have a lagging chest. Be sure to get a copy of NE afterwards, the gains keep coming
im on the program to! my body i look big for my strength? like i gain muscle easily but im weak lol! so if i complete novcie program will i be big for sure ? also i know it builds the body but wouldnt ur traps be laggin?
no ur traps will grow enough from the pendlay rows, also ur gonna look like any normal itermediate lifter that finished a novice program which isnt really big but also far from small and skinny :P
Hey Alex just bought your book, best thing I've done. Gonna give you a before and after in 8months. I'm going to run OHP speciality program. Really excited for these gains!!!
Gabriel Martins E ai Mano, me diz uma coisa, as pessoas na academia tambem te olham no torto, a respeito do jeito e os exercicios(especialmente os do livro) que Voce faz?
Alex has no sentence that doesn't include proofs and arguments ❤️❤️ P.S: Alex bring back that jacked beard you grew in your first days of having full beard It's badass
Alex, can you post more workouts? I love watching them both volume and intensity. Btw your videos have gotten me way stronger and I hope to break all the strength records for my football team. I'll update you if I break them
This is one of your best videos. I've been saying bigger muscles are stronger muscles for a while now and always get shit for it. You make some very good points here.
Highly agree with this video. During my first year of lifting I started with "hypertrophy" based workouts. But, as I slowly ventured into powerlifting I was strong as fuck! In just 6 months I gained a 315 squat, 455 dl, and a 225x2 bench.
yea, there are alot of dudes in my gym that bench 225 with a flat back and untucked shoulders. i keep telling them they can bench 315+ if they change their form for better leverages, and they dont get it. a guy benching 315 using bodybuilding form is sometimes more impressive than a powerlifter benching 365
Huh? "Powerlifting form" includes arching the back, "bodybuilding form" doesn't. Your paragraph is confusing me... Anyways, I would say that for most people a slight to moderate arch would be more beneficial in not only strength but staying injury free, as leverages are better with an arch and a retracted scapulae provides stability and rotator cuff protection
SIR....you are correct about your logic... Using moderate weights with high reps will help you build size, strength and keep you in the game for a long haul..
Hey, Alex will you be making the Naturally Enhanced for the Hollywood Physique? In one of the Q&A's earlier this year, you had us comment on our thoughts. If you do make Naturally Enhanced for the Hollywood Physique, I think many people would be interested in buying it, myself included. Good video as always
thank u bro this video i needed very much right now cuz i been training some clients and telling them this and they had some doubts and now they hear it from u amd it backs my points so thank u very much
I really enjoy Alex's channel because he actually considers people strong regardless on if they do the big three powerlifting movements or not. That's the #1 thing that has always irritated me with other fitness channels. They never consider anyone strong unless they're strong at only 3 movements, it's pretty stupid to think that way. You're actually pretty weak in my eyes if you're only strong at bench, squats, and deadlifts and little to no other exercises.
This is true for myself. Was doing max 60lbs on seated shoulder presses and now in my strength program 2 months later I'm lifting 145lbs 5x5 on the strict no momentum OHP when I was only able to do 95lbs 2 years ago. I think strength and hypertrophy balance is the only way to a balanced physique because eventually you plateau on lifts so you have to strengthen and build.
great video once again my man I never paid to much attention to my moment arm while lifting I like high reps slow and controlled with heavy weights so I have got huge from it and strong but I was always deplited after a workout "gym 2 to 3 days a week about 2hrs sessions full body" thanks for the advice my man
Not sure if you're talking about low twitch and high twitch fibers. Eddie Hall said the trick is to do low twitch fibers one weak and high twitch fibers the next. Do not try to max out every week or you will burn out.
That depends what program you use. With concurrent, you can max out every week without problems. I've done it for a good 3 years now, never burnt out once.
Definitely true. Progressive overload is only achievable with increasing weight. You can only add reps and decrease rest times for a finite amount of time with lighter weights before hypertrophy stops and you have to add weight to continue building mass. Over the years you can become very strong this way. Jay Cutler is not a weightlifter or a power lifter. He's still incredibly strong. Arnold was strong as fuck in his day. Most serious bodybuilders are hella strong. Also, look at your typical American style powerlifting peaking program; the first 3-6 weeks are structured much like a bodybuilding program, with lots of volume and exercise variety, to put on more mass, increase work capacity, and build a foundation for the heavy weights that come later in the cycle. This extra mass and work capacity is highly conducive to putting up monster numbers on the 3 big lifts. Compared to elite powerlifters, maybe bodybuilders of comparable size are not quite as strong, but they sure as shit aren't weak.
I think the important point here is that you don't have to consciously/intentionally train for strength in order to grow bigger muscles. Using progressive overload on a bodybuilding/high-volume programme will inadvertently increase strength; it's just that that strength is never really tested.
You should do a 2 WEEK VEGAN CHALLENGE and note any changes with your workouts! A non-biased approach to veganism with the benefits in mind, message me my man, it would be cool to speak with you about vegetables lol . Personally, I saw my energy in the gym skyrocket, my sleep got better, my mood improved significantly. I just want to hear your take on it, considering we should be eating something like 9 servings of veggies, yet generally the majority dont get anywhere near this, and we are seeing an epidemic of heart disease and cancers out there. Not just macronutrients, but the actual composition of the food. TBH alot of herbivores are huge, rhinos, giraffes, elephants, mammoths(supposedly were herbivorous), ox, bison.
I've been doing a bro split for a year and didnt gain that much muscle... time to hop on strength training principles.. i hate that i have decent looking muscles that can't even withstand stress for a long time
Signor Pino He just happened to mention it the day after Jeff released a video on moment arms in triceps pushdowns. I imagine that heavily influenced him using it as an example.
Alpha Destiny training with a slow tempo on the eccentric portion 3seconds and fast on the concentric 1 sec build more muscle on me that fast reps because I am tall.
AlphaDestiny do you have videos or pictures of you when you did calisthenics a lot of people that do calisthenics look shredded more than people that lift can you make a video about this please
yes true , when i take a break from bodybuilding style of training and train with low reps and focus on the movement not the muscle the weights i use are heavier and easy er to lift
I used to bench 80 kg for 10-12 with strech and pause reps and squeeze.Belive me if you get used to slow teempo u always use it you can t change and to the explosive part easier it will be still slower. Now that i lost some weight and strengh i can bench 80 for 6-8 i think. Great video i always taught i was weak but always had more detail than guys that lifted heavy as fuck and made me think i m shit. (i m 16 btw) Also when i did the bulking i used a bulgarian plan fot benching and i had good resaults in strengg that i coulsn t get with hypertropy training
AlphaDestiny Damn, way to far. I'm in Louisiana lol. Love your channel man. I like your hardcore attitude towards the gym which most people don't have anymore.
Hey Alex , I pretty much just turned 15yo but when I turn 17 in 2 years I think I can break the American Powerlifting Record, should I ? My numbers are 255lb ATG squat, 205 bech *paused*, and a 345 DL are those good numbers for just turning 15 ? Everyone Pls like this comment so it gets to the top !
Haha, I agree. I have only been training for a year and a half for "size" and I became strong without direcrly aiming to get strong. Although people whk train for mass will never be as strong as powerlifters.
Out of my 900+ videos, this is the first time I have EVER addressed this topic in the detail you are hearing today. I hope you enjoy this Alpha Destiny exclusive!
AlphaDestiny excellent explanation
Anon Ymous I'm 40 also do the same.

Alex, this video is amazing. I hate the idea that strength training can't get you jacked or lifting for hypertrophic gains won't make you strong. This video completely illustrates why that idea is wrong.
It will just slower. Your muscles become morr dense its called myofibular hypertrophy

Preciate that Gabriel
Preciate that Spandan
Alex hit a 500lbs sumo deadlift for 9 reps. That's crazy considering you never train deadlifts. You're gonna hit 650lbs in no time man.
Thanks bro, I think the gains will come very fast since I'm new to this exercise. I still need to perfect the technique, and get some frequency in this lift. 650+ is definitely happening.
AlphaDestiny great stuff man, keep us updated.

This is actually a really smart and unique video I don't think anyone else has actually adressed some of the points you made
Finally the TRUTH has been spoken. I am sick of assholes saying that bodybuilders are weak. Great video Alex.
Hey Alex just bought your book, best thing I've done. Gonna give you a before and after in 8months. I'm going to run OHP speciality program. Really excited for these gains!!!

Excellent video and great explanations! You don't beat around the bush, SUBSCRIBED!
Alex from the start you always wanted all these people to listen to what you had to say, now look at how many viewers you have listening!
Excellent analysis! You certainly know what you're talking about.
This is one of your best videos. I've been saying bigger muscles are stronger muscles for a while now and always get shit for it. You make some very good points here.
That was great... I totally stopped with AX since discovering you... keep it up eh!
Good video Alex, keep it up
Amazing video. I squeezed for years but as soon as I upped the intensity and rest, my strength BLEW UP.
great video alex !

Using moderate weights with high reps will help you build size, strength and keep you in the game for a long haul..

The power of his brows and the power of your beard will destory the world.

Good video!

Very interesting points and you explain them very well, nice video Alex :)

Vedansh Vaidhyanathan Upper chest, lats, side delts+Low BF=Hollywood Physique
Its simple man just customize NE to your liking. Just focus on upperbody and drop bodyfat % and boom you have it.
Thank you I get tired of people I am not going to name names that think people that do bodybuilding is weak SMDH.

Thank you for all of your advices and also for concurrent periodization after going from novice to intermediate my muscles blew up like fucking crazy.
Can you make a video explaining how to sculpt the lower pecs? Thanks, awesome channel.
I really enjoy Alex's channel because he actually considers people strong regardless on if they do the big three powerlifting movements or not. like louis cyr he picked it us slowly curled it slowly and over head pressed it slowly so the led didn't off balance
Moment arm is a really interesting concept
Natural lifters need to get stronger at a wide variety of exercises, simply said. Great video Alex.💪👍
i think the sledge hammer example is a quite good example of what u call a -moment arm- i think
Nippard gave you a shoutout on his last video dude, welcome new subss :P
great video once again my man I never paid to much attention to my moment arm while lifting I like high reps slow and controlled with heavy weights so I have got huge from it and strong but I was always deplited after a workout "gym 2 to 3 days a week about 2hrs sessions full body" thanks for the advice my man

I am sure it can only benefit me, and I will likely go vegan in the future. However, I do not think I will do so anytime soon.
I've been doing a bro split for a year and didnt gain that much muscle... time to hop on strength training principles.. i hate that i have decent looking muscles that can't even withstand stress for a long time
greatttt video
thats soo meee haha i really dont care about the weights going up..my muscles can talk for themselves
Basically you're saying powerbuild instead of bodybuild. Then you'll get strong as an ox
practice how you'll play because you'll play like you practice
No AthleneX shoutout for the triceps pushdown reference?
B3tterTh4nU yeah, because no one has ever done pushdowns like that before Athlean X showed them...
Signor Pino He just happened to mention it the day after Jeff released a video on moment arms in triceps pushdowns. I imagine that heavily influenced him using it as an example.
Spandan Adhikari yea, he tries to reinvent the wheel all the time
Alpha Destiny training with a slow tempo on the eccentric portion 3seconds and fast on the concentric 1 sec build more muscle on me that fast reps because I am tall.
@alphadestiny
Hey Alex, how would you program a calisthenics beginner routine in concurrent periodization? Thanks
For how long did you do calistenics before you started going to the gym?
A good 3-4 years
AlphaDestiny do you have videos or pictures of you when you did calisthenics a lot of people that do calisthenics look shredded more than people that lift can you make a video about this please
Yeah I got pictures and footage. Not many though
Laatu Poika suomalainen saatana
I agree when body builders switch to powerlifting they transition well with all the lean muscle mass they've accumulated
yes true , when i take a break from bodybuilding style of training and train with low reps and focus on the movement not the muscle the weights i use are heavier and easy er to lift
Great video btw good points.U rememberd me of what arnold use to say.SQUEEEZE AND STRECH THAT MODAFACA CHEST😂😂
I USE A powerbulider style of training using both 1-5 and 6-12 rep range

Hey Alex , I pretty much just turned 15yo but when I turn 17 in 2 years I think I can break the American Powerlifting Record, should I ? My numbers are 255lb ATG squat, 205 bech *paused*, and a 345 DL are those good numbers for just turning 15 ?
Everyone Pls like this comment so it gets to the top !
Haha, I agree. I have only been training for a year and a half for "size" and I became strong without direcrly aiming to get strong. Although people whk train for mass will never be as strong as powerlifters.
