As a property manager, we found the easiest way to mend a V.B. slat... Get a file folder clear plastic tab and cut it down to where it clips a bit beyond the hole that you're fixing. Put a little Super Glue inside the plastic tab and clip it over the slat. Let dry for 10 minutes, then use a handheld paper holepunch to make 2 holes opening up the original hole in the slat. DONE. If you don't have a holepunch handy, any cutting tool carefully used to create another hole will do. The cool thing about using clear plastic tabs is that you can repair any color slat and you can hardly see it.

I just use a bread twist tab (not the wire type)and heavy clear mailing tape. Line the edge, tape both sides, and use a knife to cut the slit.
