The reason why judges said that was because jeemin had full authority of which part she wanted. So judges were expressing their disappointment rather than criticism. Also if we take another aspect into consideration, it was 1:1 battle in which jeemin risked (and also failed to be the producers' pick) herself. This was the most crucial test because the trainees had the opportunity to be top picks and get pushed for part2. Albeit jeemin has a strong fanbase, it was still very confusing as to why she pushed herself back when this was the actual time to shine.
It was also because they wanted Jimin to be more confident they are more picky with her because they expect more of her. They think she's one of the girls who has the more experience.
The Jeemin criticism confused me so much, when they said her part was too short, I was like "but she's competing against another person....with the same part?" I agree with their decision that Sarang should win, but that piece of criticism was really weird
Personally, Jeemin won in singing, but in everything else, such as presence, expressions, dancing, etc., Sarang won, that's why she won that part. But that comment confused me too, I mean I feel like they wanted to see her as the center just like the other trainees also wanted but the comment was kind of out of place and context.
I also found it weird - specifically because she made a very smart decision - putting herself in an easier part to also hopefully match up against a less talented trainee, thus maximising her potential to win… and then the judges acted like she made a stupid choice…?

Considering the fact that all of this was filmed 5 weeks ahead of actually airing, I think the judges saved who w1 prefered more because they didn't know who would be most popular and safe from eliminations. Except Jeemin, because I think they wanted her to be at risk so more people would vote. My opinions on the performances: Team B did better but both centers were overshadowed by the main dancers (Yui less so than Fuko).
The judges confused me so much this ep. I love Saebi her stage presence is always on but she should not have won over Koko for the main dancer position. Same critique applies to Jungeun as well, her vocals are always great but she wasn't the main vocalist, she shouldn't have been judged by her vocals and instead should've been judged by her performance. And in that regard Ling Ling pulled off a better performance and should've won. Also, I think the judges are definitely holding Jeemin to an unfair standard, most likely due to her past R.U.N. experience, but I haven't heard anyone talk about it. To end this mini rant on a somewhat positive note, I really loved Koko in this performance, she reminded me so much of Stayc's Yoon, visually and performance wise.

I do love mai and I hope she debuts but I can see the favoritism the judges give her. Don't get me wrong she does have improvements to make to her voice, but you can tell she improved! And her dancing is good, her balance and footwork is pretty good and her visuals are amazing. I really hope she makes it, she is also very stable so if there was an encore I think she would do well, no the best but well.
I had the exact same opinions as you. I wasn’t able to catch the episode live so I watched the full performances on yt and then started voting before I even watched the episode, but I was so confused as to why several of the ilanders up for eliminations were the better performers. I was expecting to disagree with their criticism of the girls, but instead I wound up disagreeing with some of the compliments they were giving the girls who won. It felt like they were making up reasons for them to win, like Fuko understanding the lyrics more (even though she didn’t stand out much as a center), or Saebi expressing the song better (when it was the main dancer position). Don’t get me wrong, I love Fuko and Saebi and they’re currently in my votes, but I just felt like their wins here weren’t completely deserved. I also preferred Lingling over Jungeon, but in no world did I see the judges making that decision. I think they wanted to get Yui (and ofc Lingling) out seeing as they gave her barely any screen time this episode despite her taking the center part. Meanwhile, they made sure to give Koko a lot of screen time because they did want her to get through (which I’m eternally grateful for since she’s been my 1 pick since ep 1).

nah fr the Koko Vs Saebi battle had me PISSED. Saebi basically went “yeah i can’t beat Koko in dancing so let’s scrap dancing all together and focus on my face!” and she was REWARDED for that??? Saebi is a great performer but this is a MAIN DANCER position 😭. (also this is just my own personal opinion but Saebi’s facial expressions felt very forced and exaggerated to the point i found it cringey and could not watch it)

The edit of this show is very strange it's causing there favourites to not be as popular like it's very clear to me they want mai and sabei in this group but I just don't see it imo they fit each other but barely fit with the rest of the girls
Actually, in Saebi's case I can understand it, she gives off impressive diva vibes and I like her expressions, she enjoys what she's doing I personally feel she fits well with Jeemin and Koko. But in Mai's case I don't know what's going on, she doesn't stand out at all, they are the ones who highlight her. Mai is talented, that's for sure, but she's not ready yet and they're forcing her a lot on the show when the reality is that she hasn't done anything memorable.
for saebi i think she would be great for the group, but mai just doesn’t do it for me. i won’t be upset if she debuts but no where near my first choice
i feel like the debut group shouldn't have both mai n saebi together bc they basically cover the same role of stage presence without adding anything special vocal, dance, or rap wise. it feels almost a waste of a talented spot to another girl to add a bit more talent/spice to the group
My problem with how the producers judged this 1v1 battle is split into certain parts. 1. Is that they were selective with their critiques, eg. they looked at some contestants from just the 1v1 performance, but then other contestants they looked at as a while, which they even say themselves which is just so ????? To me. The point was a sudden death 1v1 battle, and for them to pick the ones based on THAT performance alone. 2. Is the obvious manipulation of the girls, I 100% agree that they wanted jeemin and saebi to battle as centers, for jungeun and jiyoon to battle as main vocalists (or have Fuko vs one of them) and for sujung and koko to go for the main dancer parts. They wanted the remaining contestants to choose the smaller roles as they had ranked them low and figured the top spots would be what would be picked first. My theory is that they played it safe for this reason, and I honestly can’t judge them for that at all. For Jeemin v Sarang maybe I’m biased but I actually preferred jeemin as she was the most stable throughout the performance and instead of standing out too much she worked well with her members idk. 3. Is that it’s VERY clear that they wanted to capitalize off jeemin’s popularity for the save vote. There’s no other reason for the flash forward in the first episode. I’m pretty sure there will be some contestants that get picked by the public voting system on mnet, and I honestly don’t see jeemin losing any popularity at all, if anything she’s gaining, so i feel like that was why they wanted her in the center position. Not for her to fail, but because theyre considering her for it but maybe I’m wrong idk. Anyway, pretty sure she’ll rank 1 in the fan voting and debut 😊
If I had to choose who won It would be: Yui: Because she didn’t get as overshadowed as Fuko and I felt like she was more in her element Jiyoon: She sung better than Sujung Koko: She danced better than Saebi Sarang: She stood out more during her parts compared to Jeemin Ling Ling: She also stood out more during her parts compared to Jungeun (it was very close though) Mai: I didn’t remember either of them but I did remember Mai more so idk

I would like to say that Jiyoon being played as a villain instead of an offended girl is so silly because she is the biggest team player. Besides the tss where she was moping, probably in hopes of someone giving in and getting her a bigger part, she always steps up. She helps with vocals and training the girls Also, her choosing A-Team showed she isn't beefing with Jungeun and is maybe slightly uncomfortable
For Saebi and Koko, I think they maint to recognize Koko's efforts in trying hard to improve multiple aspects (expression, singing) while being "perfect dancer" but chose the other girl because she was that too but just a bit better at expressions (maybe brighter). They tryed to praise Koko but were awkward with it.
the thing about the jeemin criticism is that usually judges don’t criticise what happens off stage, only the final performance. I think its a little bit unfair for them to point it out and definitely made it obvious the producers wanted the girls to pick parts/tried to predict what parts theyd pick. Jongeun could have picked any part as she was 2nd pick and sarang also could have picked any part in group b and she chose part 5, but the judges didnt care even though sarang has received lots of positive feedback about her center and dance potential and jongeun for her vocals.
I definitely think that they were choosing the bests of all the performances not only this battle. I think it was just to show their talents to the public for part 2 and overall, Saebi did better than Koko
Yess! The ppl who are saying yui,lingling and koko should've won instead of their counterparts don't see the bigger picture. The judges clearly said they wanted debut ready trainees not potential now. So their choices are fully reasonable. The chosen trainees are debut ready(some might not agree) Ig everyone can't be satisfied with every decision but saying the judging is bs is really smtg... as it's mostly edited out and cut tgr however mnet likes. Also i do agree that saebi did better overall in performance wise, koko not winning played out in koko's favour cuz she's now so popular! (Both are my top3)
i think saebi and koko both did a great job! koko emphasized the dance while saebi emphasized the expressions/feeling. i agree that it was wrong for the mentors to highlight koko as the perfect main dancer when she didn’t win but i’d like to point out that in a kpop group, you don’t point out the main dancer just for dancing, you point out the whole performance. because the mentors are looking at “the bigger picture” and seeing the performances as an actual kpop group, they focused on overall skills. the producers were so wrong for splitting up the parts like the main dancer is center period. maybe they should’ve added a dance break? not too sure but i want to emphasize my theory/opinion: the parts are there to give more responsibility rather than (using main dancer for example) who can dance better as a main dancer. it’s like they assign themselves to parts that would fit a main (position) but the overall outcome is just who can handle the part ALONE. not if they are fit for that position i guess. for example, jungeun is a perfect main vocal, but she chose a less risky position, but that doesn’t take away the fact that she is still one of the main vocalists in the show. JUST PUTTING IT OUT THERE !!
I want to correct you on one thing: main dancer=/=center, while there is a lot of overlap they are not the same position. examples include: Twice (MD Momo, C Nayeon) Red Velvet (MD Seulgi, C Irene), Iz*One (MD Chaeyeon, C Wonyoung), SNSD (MD Hyoyeon, C Yoona) etc. Like I said, a lot of overlap (aespa Karina, KIOF Natty, exo Kai, etc) but different skillsets. Main Dancer is supposed to be the absolute best dancer the group has while the center is usually a very good dancer but, more importantly, they grab your attention seemingly effortlessly (usually because there's also overlap with the visual/face of the group position). On this show they've only started muddling the two together in this mission but if you look at the actual parts distribution throughout the show, the center hasn't been given the biggest stand-out choreo moments and the main dancer hasn't really had the most impactful lines. I agree with most of your points but I felt this was important to clarify :)

I dont fully agree on the Koko vs Seabi think, yes Koko is better dancer but in the group she wont be jut dancer and Saebi did better in everything else, plus the judges alreaddy shown that they dont really care about dancing by always cryticizing Sujung for being a dancer and pushing her to other positions.
in my honest opinion koko has never even stood out with her dancing..she's never caught my eye...while saebi dances+she has great stage presence and expressions
I wanted to ask whether you checked out the Mnet stage or not, since it was all the contestants who won their positions. I really enjoyed it but couldn't help but feel disappointed by Mai and Saebi, and maybe even Fuko. They didn't show anything new about themselves, and felt a little flat for me. I actually like episode 7, it was cute and it let the girls display their personalities more.
The edit of this show is very strange it's causing there favourites to not be as popular like it's very clear to me they want mai and sabei in this group but I just don't see it imo they fit each other but barely fit with the rest of the girls
Actually, in Saebi's case I can understand it, she gives off impressive diva vibes and I like her expressions, she enjoys what she's doing I personally feel she fits well with Jeemin and Koko. But in Mai's case I don't know what's going on, she doesn't stand out at all, they are the ones who highlight her. Mai is talented, that's for sure, but she's not ready yet and they're forcing her a lot on the show when the reality is that she hasn't done anything memorable.
for saebi i think she would be great for the group, but mai just doesn’t do it for me. i won’t be upset if she debuts but no where near my first choice
i feel like the debut group shouldn't have both mai n saebi together bc they basically cover the same role of stage presence without adding anything special vocal, dance, or rap wise. it feels almost a waste of a talented spot to another girl to add a bit more talent/spice to the group

My problem with how the producers judged this 1v1 battle is split into certain parts. 1. Is that they were selective with their critiques, eg. they looked at some contestants from just the 1v1 performance, but then other contestants they looked at as a while, which they even say themselves which is just so ????? To me. The point was a sudden death 1v1 battle, and for them to pick the ones based on THAT performance alone. 2. Is the obvious manipulation of the girls, I 100% agree that they wanted jeemin and saebi to battle as centers, for jungeun and jiyoon to battle as main vocalists (or have Fuko vs one of them) and for sujung and koko to go for the main dancer parts. They wanted the remaining contestants to choose the smaller roles as they had ranked them low and figured the top spots would be what would be picked first. My theory is that they played it safe for this reason, and I honestly can’t judge them for that at all. For Jeemin v Sarang maybe I’m biased but I actually preferred jeemin as she was the most stable throughout the performance and instead of standing out too much she worked well with her members idk. 3. Is that it’s VERY clear that they wanted to capitalize off jeemin’s popularity for the save vote. There’s no other reason for the flash forward in the first episode. I’m pretty sure there will be some contestants that get picked by the public voting system on mnet, and I honestly don’t see jeemin losing any popularity at all, if anything she’s gaining, so i feel like that was why they wanted her in the center position. Not for her to fail, but because theyre considering her for it but maybe I’m wrong idk. Anyway, pretty sure she’ll rank 1 in the fan voting and debut 😊

If I had to choose who won It would be:
Yui: Because she didn’t get as overshadowed as Fuko and I felt like she was more in her element
Jiyoon: She sung better than Sujung
Koko: She danced better than Saebi
Sarang: She stood out more during her parts compared to Jeemin
Ling Ling: She also stood out more during her parts compared to Jungeun (it was very close though)
Mai: I didn’t remember either of them but I did remember Mai more so idk
I get what u mean w all of saebi’s performances running together, I kinda didn’t remember her until panorama but ever since her expressions have always been the same (even tho imo they never really matched the song well, even tho EVERYONE says they do, like iwaly rain on me and panorama are so different but she has the same expression every time..) and it’s kinda disappointing I want more 🙁 I also do feel like koko should’ve won bc I feel like she expressed the song accurately and had better dancing, while saebi just expressed more but inaccurately. Also mai keeps winning and I’m kinda confused like no hate but is she that good that she’s being ranked miles ahead of ppl like jiyoon…

Producers wanted Jeemin to be center.... Which i wish she actually went for... Jeemin RuNext was confident and unrestricted ... Jeemin in Iland lacks confidence
I would like to say that Jiyoon being played as a villain instead of an offended girl is so silly because she is the biggest team player. Besides the tss where she was moping, probably in hopes of someone giving in and getting her a bigger part, she always steps up. She helps with vocals and training the girls
Also, her choosing A-Team showed she isn't beefing with Jungeun and is maybe slightly uncomfortable
For Saebi and Koko, I think they maint to recognize Koko's efforts in trying hard to improve multiple aspects (expression, singing) while being "perfect dancer" but chose the other girl because she was that too but just a bit better at expressions (maybe brighter). They tryed to praise Koko but were awkward with it.
the thing about the jeemin criticism is that usually judges don’t criticise what happens off stage, only the final performance. I think its a little bit unfair for them to point it out and definitely made it obvious the producers wanted the girls to pick parts/tried to predict what parts theyd pick. Jongeun could have picked any part as she was 2nd pick and sarang also could have picked any part in group b and she chose part 5, but the judges didnt care even though sarang has received lots of positive feedback about her center and dance potential and jongeun for her vocals.
I definitely think that they were choosing the bests of all the performances not only this battle. I think it was just to show their talents to the public for part 2 and overall, Saebi did better than Koko
Yess! The ppl who are saying yui,lingling and koko should've won instead of their counterparts don't see the bigger picture. The judges clearly said they wanted debut ready trainees not potential now. So their choices are fully reasonable. The chosen trainees are debut ready(some might not agree)
Ig everyone can't be satisfied with every decision but saying the judging is bs is really smtg... as it's mostly edited out and cut tgr however mnet likes.
Also i do agree that saebi did better overall in performance wise, koko not winning played out in koko's favour cuz she's now so popular! (Both are my top3)

i think saebi and koko both did a great job! koko emphasized the dance while saebi emphasized the expressions/feeling. i agree that it was wrong for the mentors to highlight koko as the perfect main dancer when she didn’t win but i’d like to point out that in a kpop group, you don’t point out the main dancer just for dancing, you point out the whole performance. because the mentors are looking at “the bigger picture” and seeing the performances as an actual kpop group, they focused on overall skills. the producers were so wrong for splitting up the parts like the main dancer is center period. maybe they should’ve added a dance break? not too sure but i want to emphasize my theory/opinion: the parts are there to give more responsibility rather than (using main dancer for example) who can dance better as a main dancer. it’s like they assign themselves to parts that would fit a main (position) but the overall outcome is just who can handle the part ALONE. not if they are fit for that position i guess. for example, jungeun is a perfect main vocal, but she chose a less risky position, but that doesn’t take away the fact that she is still one of the main vocalists in the show. JUST PUTTING IT OUT THERE !!
I want to correct you on one thing: main dancer=/=center, while there is a lot of overlap they are not the same position. examples include: Twice (MD Momo, C Nayeon) Red Velvet (MD Seulgi, C Irene), Iz*One (MD Chaeyeon, C Wonyoung), SNSD (MD Hyoyeon, C Yoona) etc. Like I said, a lot of overlap (aespa Karina, KIOF Natty, exo Kai, etc) but different skillsets. Main Dancer is supposed to be the absolute best dancer the group has while the center is usually a very good dancer but, more importantly, they grab your attention seemingly effortlessly (usually because there's also overlap with the visual/face of the group position). On this show they've only started muddling the two together in this mission but if you look at the actual parts distribution throughout the show, the center hasn't been given the biggest stand-out choreo moments and the main dancer hasn't really had the most impactful lines. I agree with most of your points but I felt this was important to clarify :)
@@into_orbit yes yes totally agree! i realize why my comment would seem that center=main dancer. producers definitely stuffed up with line distribution and dividing it equally. since it was basically a solo mission, i don’t see why they couldn’t have made it fair because mistakes won’t take affect on the group, only themselves lol. especially with main dancer; center just seemed to have more lines, not really parts that emphasizes the position.

I dont fully agree on the Koko vs Seabi think, yes Koko is better dancer but in the group she wont be jut dancer and Saebi did better in everything else, plus the judges alreaddy shown that they dont really care about dancing by always cryticizing Sujung for being a dancer and pushing her to other positions.
in my honest opinion koko has never even stood out with her dancing..she's never caught my eye...while saebi dances+she has great stage presence and expressions

I wanted to ask whether you checked out the Mnet stage or not, since it was all the contestants who won their positions. I really enjoyed it but couldn't help but feel disappointed by Mai and Saebi, and maybe even Fuko. They didn't show anything new about themselves, and felt a little flat for me. The performance was still really good though!
