      THANK YOU! I mean players can literally drive to the basket and not worry bout getting slammed around like in Jordan's era. It's easier to score especially when players don't even play defense and aren't competitive. Look at the paint now, it's not cramped like it once was. Plus players don't actually win, they get their numbers but players don't actually win majority of the time like Jordan and the Bulls did. The NBA is so fuckin soft now it's actually cringe worthy. I mean look at how many players sit out, they don't even play a full season anymore cause they're "tired" lmao. Also last year or the year before only five players out of all the players in the league played a full season. Let that sink in...

      @@jsgr5382 well it's easier to shoot than at defense lol which is what players don't do at all. Also players now have an advantage wit the training, and the technology and all the pre workout shit that's out there. Players back then didn't have any of that. Plus there was no social media and that's definitely another advantage players have now. The NBA has gotten very soft and watered down. I mean players now only play like half a season, they'll sit out if they have a hangnail or if they're "tired" lol. Jordan literally played almost every game. I mean he never missed more than four games in a season bro..

      I don't know if the players are better in today's NBA, though. Whenever I hear people refer to "ToDaY'S pLaYeRs ArE bEtTeR" it almost invariably leads to a conversation about 3-point shooting. Yes, players shoot a lot more 3-pointers now than in previous eras, but that just means a different skill and it has come at the expense of other skills (low-post play, interior defense and rebounding, mid-range shooting).
      Some studies I have seen show that the median height of NBA players are at its lowest in decades. And like most eras, league rules changes have influenced the style of play in today's NBA. In the case of this era, rules as the "freedom of movement" pretty much handcuffs defenders against ball-handling players , who can drive at will or even have uncontested shots. The centers and power forwards play 15 feet away from the basket, and many of them want to be inefficient 3-point shooters.

The games different now you have to be on ball once players cross half court to combat the shooting when even mid tier guys like cj mccollum pulling from 30 if not checked. The floor is more spread out for that so bodies can’t be as clunked in the lane. Mind you if nba teams tried that now they’d give a wide open corner 3 on every possession. Yes there were different rules but remember why they change them in most cases. The game and pace really started looking ugly towards the end of the hand check no 5 secs in the lane era of basketball. Dudes will fight so hard to see an era of throwing it to the big and seeing if they double or not and attacking or passing depending on that it’s wild. Did you expect the game to never evolve away from that? Remember the first 11-12 years bron played he played in a game like that with fun but most of the time ugly basketball. I grew up on the early 2000s pistons and spurs and lakers and pacers the game was slow and physical for years after they took things like hand checking too. The old physicality is hyped up by the few outliers, it wasn’t the rule and people forget those teams were famous for it for a reason. U should be doing amazing things at that point when u have all the space in the world .At some point all the moves to get the ball in the bucket there is only so much u can do and skills level off. Why is it so much easier to score? These narratives are ridiculous! And False! Yes, the big can shoot the 3, but which team has won a chip with the big Killing you with the 3 ball?? SERIOUSLY! None! Other than Jokic, Giannis, and Embiid, where is the post up game in today's NBA? There is no wing in this current league that could stop Jordan. NOT ONE! Hell, they can't stop players of lesser stature. There is also no big man tjat Jordan couldn't dunk on. But if LeBron had to face the bad boy pistons , his psyche would not hold up, hell, he folded against a much less physical Mavericks team. And he's a horrible free throw shooter. Just because the whole team is CAPABLE of making a 3 pointer or 2 doesn't mean they are better basketball players. Because of the current style of play, there is really only a handful of guys that can beat you off the dribble. Only a handful of guys that have any resemblance of a mid-range game. Only a handful of guys would be significant contributors in previous tougher eras. That's real. These guys have these platforms and wanna sound so smart, but they are wrong af. I've played multiple sports from age 6 until 21. Played D1 football. Was a district long jump champ. Had multiple basketball scholarship offers. I have seen many dudes who were HELLA athletic but were not good. Weren't winners, for whatever reason. Many were one dimensional..just like in today's NBA .some lacked elite fundamentals, and two things can be true at the same time. You can have good athletic ability, but also not be fundamentally sound. You can be athletic, But also lack mental toughness. Prime example Ben Simmons is an Exceptionally gifted athlete..need I say more? I love Ben, and I constantly route for him . I used him because I was trying to make a point that you would all easily understand. Why you think some guys are career bench players, or career back up Quarterbacks, or career relief pitchers!??. These people use every excuse in the book to try and make LeBron better than Jordan, simply because his numbers resume doesn't add up ! That's it. Jordan was 40 yrs old, averaging over 20 points, vs. dudes like Young athletic Kobe, Tracy McGady, Vince Carter, etc.. Jordan is just built differently. Bobby Knight said that MJ would be the greatest before he played one tip of pro ball. I applaud LeBron for being able to play long enough to pass the total points record . Just because you play longer doesn't mean you are better. 13 full seasons Jordan had 32k points and 6 chips. In his first 13 seasons LeBron had 26k points and 3 chips. Man that's a whole 6k points in the same # of seasons played. Please let that sink in! A whole 6,000 points. 🤦🏾‍♂️. I saw both play at their absolute best, and Jordan is better. Rex Chapman averaged 14.3 points per game in 23 games vs. Michael Jordan. Chapman had one game where he was insanely hot (after all, Chapman was capable of putting up points in a hurry, a la Tyler Herro in today's NBA). After that 39-point game in 1996, Chapman had games of 12, 16, 0, 7 and 8 points in his final five meetings vs. Jordan.
      By his early to mid-30s, Jordan occasionally defended point guard-types such as Allen Iverson and Jason Kidd but it was primarily in switches. Of course, we're talking about two hall of famers who at that time were each at least one decade younger than Jordan. Jordan wouldn't be defending point guards regularly in his era or in any era, especially in his mid-30s. Not to mention those Bulls' teams defensive weakness was very quick point guards such as Iverson and Kidd and the Bulls' top defenders were bigger wings (Jordan and Ron Harper were tall shooting guards, Scottie Pippen was a small forward, Dennis Rodman was a power forward).

    The NBA is a lot different then it was in the 90’s. The game moved from a defensive low post style to now a transition 3 ball game. This has forced 7 ft players to be more athletic, ball handle, and shoot 3’s consistently. The 7 ft players of the 90’s were never asked to do this. It was rebound and dominate down low. It’s unfair to compare eras because of this because the style of game was just so different.
    Colin at the beginning mentioned the game is more international now. That happened because of Michael Jordan and his influence on the game. Not one player maybe outside of Muhammad Ali has impacted their respective sport more then Jordan. LeBron is a all time great player and has had a career to rival Kareem and Russell but no one has ever done what Jordan did.

    It was way harder to score in MJ;s era . Players are more athletic today and more players shoot 3's and sports medicine is better ... but overall players are less skilled in things like footwork , mid range and overall fundamentals ( mainly due I think to players playing less years in college. less skilled . its also way easier to score in todays league due to NBA rule changes over the years and most teams playing defense with all star game level intensity during the regular season

      Let's put this in perspective: The talk of this year's All-Star Weekend was a G-League player who won the Slam Dunk Contest, because the so-called "bigger, better, faster" NBA stars didn't want to compete in it. The All-Star Game was horrible because we saw players jacking up nothing but 3s and taking uncontested layups with no one near them, which is how players play in the regular season (40 percent of all shots are 3-pointers).
      The current players make so much money with guaranteed contracts and off-the-court endorsements that they don't want to compete in the regular season, All-Star Game, etc. Players are using load management to take games off (most infamously Kawhi Leonard) or using the guaranteed contracts as a leverage to get paid and not play (Ben Simmons, Kyrie Irving). Now the players are demanding the NBA cut 20 games off the schedule while still demanding $40 million-per-year contracts.
      And no, there is no scientific proof that today's players are more athletic than in previous years. The human body has not evolved in hundreds of years. Michael Jordan and Darrell Griffith had 46-inch verticals in the 1980s. Spud Webb was 5-foot-6 and he had a 46-inch vertical back in the 1980s. David Thompson had a 44-inch vertical in the 1970s. Wilt Chamberlain reportedly recorded a 46-inch vertical in the 1960s. What has changed are external trappings (medicine, supplements, training methods).
      If anything, players are shorter and smaller than they have been in decades. Not to mention there are plenty of unathletic-looking players in today's NBA as well. People need to stop acting like every NBA player today is athletic like LeBron James, Zion Williamson, Ja Morant or Zach Lavine.

    • @tclass99
      @tclass99 Рік тому

      @Goodguy1ful… I disagree. Players back in the 80s and 90s didn’t train nearly as hard or as often as today’s players do. The current crop of NBA players are absolutely more skilled in every facet of the game. What separates the old generation is their mental toughness and their will to compete. That’s missing from 95% of today’s players.

    The rules have been changed to create more offense. Too many easy lay ups that didn't exist back then. Today whenever a player drives to the hoop, they end up at the foul line. If the defenders oxygen comes in contact with a player, he gets called for a foul. It's ridiculous. It has ruined the game. It is so lopsided. Like most of us, I’m a fan first. I’ve been going to games and watching games since 1976. Dr. J is my all time favorite for a host of reasons. I watched him live in the Spectrum from the late 1970s until he retired. This game has evolved tremendously. Jordan was so far ahead of his so called peers it’s mind boggling. However, if Jordan was in the league today things would be different because the league is different. He would dominate, but he would have to contend with MORE skilled players. What I mean is more as in plural. There are a larger number of truly transcendant players from around the world today. In the end I think Jordan would become even better than he was. Having said that, I believe he would have a harder time off the court with the modern social media pressure. He’s still human and I do believe it would effect his game to some degree. I also think he would figure that part out and overcome it. That’s what winners do.

And because it’s bron, he’d probably have played the two years since he grew up without pops and doesn’t gamble. I think assassin Jordan may have won 3-4 with Miami, but I don’t see him beating a Steve Kerr coached GSW. Jordan doesn’t like making the right play so he’s try to solo and GSW had some of the better defenses. He’s getting swept against KD GSW as well so it’s really do y’all think Bron can do 6 or 8 and 0. I just see what he’s doing with a healthy AD and can’t see him loosing if Scottie is healthy.

Players don’t practice as much as they used to, they don’t stay in college as long as they used to, yet they’re supposedly more “skilled”. The degrees of improvement are marginal, as any measurable athletic record shows; with the exception of improvements in equipment, the various world records are improved over time by tiny increments e.g. in 1972, Eddie Merckx set the "One Hour" record at 49.43 kms (30.72 miles). In 1996, Chris Boardman set the record at 56.38 kms (35.03 miles). However, 4 years later, in 2000, on the same equipment that Merckx had used, Boardman could only manage to beat Merckx's distance by 10 metres (32.8 feet), an improvement of just 0.02% in 48 years.
