What a wonderful time in my life in the 70s I was 18 and could not afford one but I saw them on the road, those were the best years and I am glad I was there.
the Torana XU1 was not the fIrst performance vehicle in Australia as you stated...far from it !...There were Cooper minis and Cortina gts winning races in the early 60s...and then the XR GT...in 1967...and Holden had the EH S4 at Bathurst too..

It was the "first locally designed and produced performance vehicle" is how it should be argued. Although even that would be a hard sell.
