Simple, Hard & Effective. How Starting Strength Gyms Are Designed

- Ever wonder why all Starting Strength Gyms look practically identical? Simple, hard, and effective. The thought process put into the Starting Strength method directly translates into the gyms themselves. Every detail is precise, down to the floor transitions. Every piece of equipment is custom-made in the USA. When you break down a Starting Strength Gym, they're a work of art.

I love seeing custom built equipment that actually makes sense; nothing cobbled together and everything done for a good reason.
"for our masochistic trainees" Truer words have never been spoken
Also, this gym is a work of art! Perfect use of the available area and functional and aesthetically clean equipment.
Thank you 🍻
Knowing what I know now and having gone through the program myself I wouldn’t hesitate to join one of these gyms were it not for the fact I have my own equipment and I’ve learned the lifts pretty well on my own. Well worth whatever they are charging. The mileage I got from reading the blue book and watching the starting strength content on UA-cam was pretty astonishing on its own. Having access to a coach and being a novice would be a game changer.
Came for the insight, stayed for the ATF shirt 💪🏻🇺🇲
A Dream! Here in Germany, in the most Gyms are 1 Rack and 10000 unnesceseries Machines.
No machine is ( unnecessary) it all depends on your goals a lot of people have 0 interest in the 3 compound movements.
I love the look and the simplicity.
Thank you 🍻
One going up in Tampa. So excited. Drive past on the way to work and check the progress. Can't wait
Tyler (owner) is a hell of a guy. It's going to be a great gym.
Ray is badass. His before and after photos are insane. Now, how does one train to gain his lovely deep voice? Lol.
Do what Jensen Ackles did
So well put together, what a clean setup👍
Much appreciated 👍
Great gym and wise use of real estate!
Beautiful gym!
For those not familiar with Starting Strength gyms, not all locations have an assault bike. Some locations have a Prowler sled instead.
Which SS Gym has a sled?
@@xmoogoox Houston
Please tell me you're running it outside and not down the pretty rubber flooring 😁
@@xmoogoox
I don't use the prowler. If I want cardio I'll practice BJJ....or squat a set of 8 reps 😛
A wise man!
Would like to open one up in Ga in the near future.
This is really cool, I wish there was one in Montreal, Canada
Parfaitement d'accord. There's one gym in Bruxelles, so why not one in MTL?
Awesome gym, so efficient. Should definitely get some tubows in there too.
Nice looks great very good gym
This gym is amazing. Very minimal and efficient!! Kuddos to you. Wish you had one in Baltimore for 😊
We've got an affiliate in Baltimore. Contact Diego and Emily here: www.fivex3.com
This is a very functional and attractive setup. I'm wondering what are the dimensions of your lifting platform? Thanks.
Love the DEFUND THE ATF SHIRT LOVE IT..
Where are the Starting Strength custom spec kettlebells to hold the doors open?
supply chain issues, they are coming next summer
I think those are only in WFAC
There must be a back entrance to a changing room else what would a member do walking in from 2 feet of snow. Or, that gym might be in SoCal.
You had me at "grain alcohol"
Where can one buy the weight plate tree?
Wish you had one in Las Vegas
No plans yet but I'm guessing it's coming in 2023
This data as good as a research for a PhD in strength training. 🙌
Nick looking sharp AF in that shirt ;)
You know life is good when you get to wear that to work
Did you mean "sharp ATF"? 😉
Got diagnosed with severe osteoporosis and discovered this channel researching about exercise. This is really amazing, however, I do not have such a great gym in my area. :( So I am looking to use my own body weight and then household objects to workout with....
Where do you live?
@@xmoogoox In California, near SF
@@AmbaPuri online coaching is probably your best bet
Wish you would come to Daytona beach Florida
Hopefully someday, in the meanwhile check out SS Orlando
Hi Orlando for me is a hour away for me
@@jeffreybabino1411 if you stop by for a form check, tell Pete I sent you 👍
Any special ventilation for these efficient spaces?
Plenty of oxygen for ~10 people
😆 Right on
Would like to know the start up costs for a gym like this ? Beautiful gym …
Depends on the city. Couple hundred grand ish.
@@xmoogoox , thank you sir . We have no starting strength gyms in Las Vegas and it would be nice to have one here ..🙏we have had a population explosion here and I think a starting strength gym would be fantastic and do well… I can see the T -shirt now … “Starting Strength Las Vegas ..😂
@@anthonyluisi7096 I'd be shocked if we don't have one there by the end of 2023
I wish there was a gym in the Charlotte/Concord NC area. Hint, hint.
I want a shirt like Nick has…
You can get it from Fenix Ammo's website.
We'll very likely have one in Charlotte next year
@@startingstrength thanks!
Can anyone tell me how much an SSC gets paid each year? It’s my understanding the gym owner pays him a salary and it’s not commission based on the amount of clients.
Correct, it's not commission based. The hourly rate ranges from $25-55 depending on the market and the amount of experience the SSC has.
@@xmoogoox So on average $52-115k a year? That’s insane, then again it’s a hard credential to earn
@@xmoogoox I appreciate you answering my question. Can you tell me how many members most gyms have? From what I’ve looked up it seems most gyms charge around $315 per month. Is that still the case?
@@nickt3169 no problem. Gyms charge between $315-455/month depending on the city. Most gyms cap out at around 100 in-person members (depends on the number of racks) plus a couple dozen online members.
@@jd0879 Not quite that much on the top end because most coaches are working low 30-ish hours per week. There are coaches getting close to six figures with ~30 hours in the gym plus online coaching. A high quality experience requires high quality people and high quality people must have real earning potential to keep them around. Check out an upcoming interview I did with Michael Jones and another one with Jordan Burnett. These guys LOVE their jobs and are grateful they can earn a real living. Luckily we figured out the right blend of incentives between member/coach/franchisee - a tricky balance to get right.
Can i come to starting strenght gym to make barbell curls and leg presses?
The deadlift is kind of a leg press, so sure.
@@xmoogoox 🤗👀
I want to have affiliate in South Africa...
How do i go about it???
Get an investment group going that wants to do at least five gyms and send me an email.
At $350-450/mo, how long do people generally stay with the gym?
A big chunk of members sign up and don't ever leave. Average tenure is around nine months.
Wtf...
I've been doing SS in Boston for 6 weeks now. My first time ever doing this type of exercise, and I plan to continue. I appreciate this detailed description of the SS gym facilities and technology. I wish I'd seen it sooner, lol.
I have only one complaint about this video. Please don't advertise your political beliefs (i.e., the T-shirt) if you want to attract new clients. This practice is for everyone.
O the hypocrisy! It must make you so enraged to see someone with a shirt you don’t like
@@willnill7946 Nope. Not enraged. I'm too old to get enraged (75 yrs). Also not sure why you think I don't like the shirt. I was offering marketing advice.
Doesn't your back want to slide on those wooden benches with leg drive?
If they're dry, yes. If they're treated with Scott's liquid gold and/or your shirt is sweaty, they are nice and tacky.
I don't see any 35 pound plates.
Tbh I don’t even know why 35 lb plates were manufactured. Might as well produce 15 lb plates while they’re at it
Some of those welds are painful
Is this title a jab or a copy off of Barbell Logic?
Where are the mirrors? 😉
Shit we forgot to mention that
I wonder when rip is going to realize men prefer to be lean not because of abs(although it's a bonus) but because of facial aesthetics and muscle separartion. Girls care more about a nice jawline and noticable cheekbones than you squatting 700 at 240 pounds being a 5'8 moonface.
It is rather nice to see big bumps of triceps rather than just a big fat upper arm with a big tricep hidden under it.
The SS brand would appeal to more people and grow faster if it werent for political BS being thrown in. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but a defund the ATF shirt on a representative from the company will turn off alot of people.
If a company rep wore a F*ck trump shirt would you want to train there?
Defund the ATF
It’s obviously not for you then. Good luck with whatever program you are using.
Do you train for politics or for strength?
@@Francesco-cj3oi I train for strength, politics has nothing to do with it which is the whole point of my comment. Any business would benefit from staying A-political and focusing instead on what they offer the customer. Politics has become far too polarizing.
