The Discovery is my favorite album by BoO. So much cool electronic stuff, shred, and chuggy rhythmicness all throughout.
I like but am not super into djenty metalcore stuff like this, but this album is incredible. Each song is a consistent banger and the flow of the whole album is executed to perfection.
That's great to hear. I'll have to check it out one of these days.
@@CriticalReactions this album is truly great and to me it is one of the prime examples of interludes being done. The album is pretty long and listening to all of these crazy songs back to back can be kind of exhausting for you to keep up, but there are quite a few interludes which experiment more with the ambience to keep it all flowing nicely.
@@CriticalReactions , XIV and Behold back to back.
This album was their pinnacle.
True. But White Nile is a banger
The New Reign in my opinion was equally good. Short songs + super mindfuck drums. Devastate is still my favourite song of them and the album was nuts.
@@Naru1987abstract art id a timeless classic
Some of my favourite songs and bands are djent, but sometimes it turns into the dubstep of metal, both in a good way and a bad way. This is one those ones where it's a bit of both imo, depends what mood I'm in
Hahah funny comment. So true. I love me some djent. I don’t listen to it often anymore, but sometime it’s awesome to get some bouncy heavy stuff!
Omg you have to do Behold off of this album. It is an absolute masterpiece and masterclass of guitar work. DO IT! (the song before it, XIV, is the lead up to the track and is a must listen before you get into it)
Anyone who can play the outro solo at the end of Behold is not human
@@CassetteMelody seriously. Jason Richardson is a god. They will never be as good as they were on this album and it makes me sad haha.
Amen
How about that guitar solo though 👌🏻
The Discovery is in my opinion one of the best albums in metal. Bold statement, I know. It's just so unique and well put together as a whole. If you're willing to check out some more songs off of it, I recommend the two-parter XIV/Behold.
P.S. Your confusion with the electronic bit at the end is understandable, but it makes a lot more sense in the context of the full album.
Glad to hear it makes more sense in the album.
This band used to be so good. This album kicks ass.
Still think they're awesome but they have gotten cleaner for sure.
"The Lost Outpost" by In Mourning. That band needs more attention.
back when BOO was awesome with Jason Richardson
I really want to hear "The Final Trance" by Enshine, I think you'll like that one
Love the reaction, easily one of the best BOO albums. Glad you checked something out off The Discovery.
Check out Pain of Salvation, if you havent already. Song: Full Throttle Tribe or Panther
Nah man, On a Tuesday or The Passing Light of Day ;)
@@jarunia17 Any of their songs would be great
After the Burial, please. My personal favorite is Catacombs.
Honestly the loss of Richardson on guitar & Darocha on bass kinda left this band dead in the water. Shame too as they had a lot of potential & momentum with them after the success of The Discovery.
What are you talking about? Jason didn't write most or even a a quarter of The discovery an Darocha was on all their albums except their last one. The main songwriter's are all still in the band lol
BoO had Tosin Abasi and Jason Richardson. Let both of them go.
@@nevetsdsa1564 tosin was just a touring member helping them out when Lee was the only guitarist in 2009
Gotta do some Meshuggah if you're doing djent
We literally owe Meshuggah for every djent song there is.
this band was so good, they never fail to drop a brutal and great albums.
Opening sounds like a Zelda or Final Fantasy game! What comes after sounds more deathcore or tech-death than djent. Whatever genre, it's a pretty cool track. Definitely some interesting stuff going on underneath the more generic deathcore/tech-death elements, especially all the various electronic elements. Really liked the guitar solo too, especially when the dual harmonized bit comes in. This is right on the edge of something that makes me want to hear more and something that makes me think, nah, one track was good enough. I might at least try to hear a few more tracks to make up my mind. Djent is definitely a genre dominated by its distinct rhythms. It literally got its name from an onomatopoeia of the sound an 8-string guitar makes when you're chugging on the lowest string ala Meshuggah! Extreme metal in general has always been rhythm-dominated, probably because it's inevitable when you take the voice, which is usually responsible for most of a song's melody, and reduce it to the range of growls, frys, and other forms of vocal distortion.
Interestingly I didn't get that 8-bit overture feeling from the beginning on the first time through. I also wasn't aware of the origins of the name Djent so that's pretty cool. I can kinda hear the sound but it's probably not the first (or second or third) onomatopoeia that I would have created for that sounds 😅
@@CriticalReactions I wasn't necessarily thinking about the 8-bit games in terms of the sound; more just the "fantasy" quality of the writing. A lot of "djent" doesn't even use a lot of low 8-string chugging, so the genre has also come to be defined by its complex rhythms. If you want the best example of the onomatopoeiatic aspects, go back to Meshuggah's Nothing album: songs like Stengah or Rational Gaze and you'll probably hear it... or just watch this funny Stevie T video: ua-cam.com/video/YTkuJ4vRQZM/v-deo.html
Kalmah - Seventh Swamphony, for lots of melodies mixed with speed and harshness
Be'lakor - Countless Skies, for melodic & rithmic riff party
Check new While She Sleeps track, proud of them
Gotta have that crunchy bass if your drummer plays heavy double-kicks. Gotta be heard in the mix!
Would be really cool to see your analysis of the song "human sadness" by julian casablancas + the voidz
If you do another folk metal stint, please check out the song Between Hope and Reality by Can Bardd. It's such an amazingly epic song and would love to see your opinions on it. Thanks!
Vektor- recharging the void
@@steezydan8543 agree to disagree
@@christopherblowers443 I liked the comment just because its vektor but I'd go with charging the void.
@@Isaiah_McIntosh im sticking to my choice based on the reactor and how the show its structured. This might be the only time vektor will ever be on the show..
@@christopherblowers443 it's their best song, but concept albums are always a bit difficult
can you react to their new song WHITE NILE? it's amazing
where's the djent in here? it sounds more like tech death/tech deathcore to me
Djent is a bit of a nebulous term with a very strong connection to deathcore, and I hear a few djent conventions in this song. At the same time, it's not super accurate to pidgeon-hole this song, as djent isn't a very strongly defined subgenre in itself. Listen to what Bryan says after the song ends and he expresses some common themes in djent.
@@liliIiliIilil ok, there's some djent in here, but I'd say there are djentier examples out there
@Sh Cr yup, this one and other ones I've checked out from them are much djentier, this particular song here is like a look into to more tech deathy, The Faceless meets deathcore kind of vibe, bad shot for djent week I guess, cool stuff tho
You should check out their album soul sphere! It’s a masterpiece
Meshuggah- I
