The triathlon world better watch out for Steph shes a badass! Quite a lot of ex rowers get into triathlon, myself included, for me the similarities come from understanding the principles in techniques on/in the water, both are about efficiently getting hold of water and leveraging past it
As a swimmer who lives too far from a pool now, rowing indoors is my go-to exercise. It made sense to me but is so good to have my assumption verified! Great vid guys x
Have u been in the pool since spending time on a rower? I want one as prep for the next lockdowns. On the news they've started talking about number of people with covid in hospital never the fact they are diabetic 90 years with one kidney haha. Dont joke about it!!
Collegiate rower turned triathlete here! I actually think there's a strong correlation between cycling and rowing. Certainly an excellent all around exercise and the mental fortitude required translates well to triathlon. Nice insights from Heather as rowing is not very intuitive.
Thank you, 51, not an athlete like others here, just training for mental health, first tri with friends in 2023 🤞🏽 usually row as warm up, so thanks for this.
Going on holiday tomorrow and concerned I'm not going to get my swim training in. This video is perfectly timed as I never even realised how similar the muscles recruited were!
Ohh wow ! Interesting, Heather thank you so much for this conversation. You are always finding those topics that are important for 3 athletes but nobody talks about. 😎
Question/Video Idea to the GTN Team - could you make a video on swim Ergs (vasa trainer, kayakPro, etc.?) More as an option for the home-gym. Would like to hear your thoughts on how good those skills transfer and how/when to integrate into a training plan.
Thank you that was really interesting, but you didn't mention running, am I wrong in thinking that if rowing helps quads, glutes, calves, core and upper body, it's also good as cross training for running?
Why GTN think rowing would be beneficial for swimming is similar how tennis would be beneficial for skiing - two completely different sports utilising different primary muscles
I rowed at university and when I got into cycling (then triathlon) later on I found my quads built up much more easily than I expected and I put it down to that. Maybe I should revisit the erg. Maybe. 🤮
Funny story I focused on back squat, 5 sets 4 times a week. And hip flexors. Then when got on leg extension took full body tension from back squat and used hip flexors to keep bum in seat and after 2 months was lifting almost the full stack on the Matrix. I felt I could have gone full but felt improvement too quick and might tear a ligament off the bone. I drink a lot and not too active between g y m session although a fair bit of walking. But due to the drinking wasn't confident with my tendons. Covid hit and stopped the gym sessions. Mask nazi's chased me away. The idea of breathing through a dirty rag is just gross to me.

Were u natural runner after all the rowing?

Love that - thanks!

@@nikitaw1982 sadly no, only open water and that isn’t quite as replicable as a pool swim for me

This video has made me look into rowing myself and now I've happily incorporated it into my training. Thanks GTN !
Great to hear!

Most ex rowers have a pretty rational fear of the erg. It’s been almost 30 years and I can still taste the blood….
Yes, a pain that only the rowing community knows😂😂😭
You know you miss 2K pieces 😂😂
It’s the worst. I have one in my living room, tucked away into a corner, hoping it’ll disappear one day and I can stop.
@@vfnt ahahahahahaha
The video I didn’t know I needed😊 Great information!! Can’t wait to add the tweaks and try the sessions.
Most pertinent topic, Just started indoor Rowing. Thank you for this discussion

They just closed the pool at my gym for a week due to maintenance. What perfect timing! It's like You Tube is keeping tabs on me...hmmmmm.
Hello , thanks for this informativ clip !
Thank you for your explanation maam.

Kayakpro sounds interesting.

Rowing is mostly a leg workout, not arms

Cam wurf is the exemple
Crumbs! Now all of the rowing machines are going to sell out everywhere like the indoor bikes did at the start of the lockdown 😁

Just finished a 12km row
Heather needs to try rowing an actual boat. Rowing a single scull is a lot more fun than using an indoor rowing machine.
Yeah but it’s bloody hard on a single scull
Did Cam Wurf start out as a rower?
Represented Australia
We have a rowing machine in our apartment gym wonder does it help
Cam Wurf left the chat
Those are horrible sessions. You might hurl.....LOL!
I love rowing, btw.... :)
