I know it's freaking hilarious!! He doesn't get within 50m of the breaking part of the wave and it's about 2 foot and fat asf!! Really warrants that epic background music! I'm still waiting for whatever it's supposedly building up to to actually happen!! lol
@@nomadhabit I hate to break it to you, but it's "sharky" almost everywhere but the odds of an attack are extremely rare. You're just going to have to face the fact the music is melodramatic. My comment stands uncorrected.
With that music, I kept waiting for him to fight a giant sea bear, decapitate some druid boogieboarders, or maybe just add the last tier to the world's tallest super tall house of cards ever made atop the nose of a foil. You let me down, Laird. You let us all down.
I'm of two minds about this foil surfing. On the one hand, it's awesome that you can surf the waves long before they start breaking, and it looks like you're floating in the air. So way easier to find waves that are rideable. On the flip side, it looks less satisfying than carving turns directly on the face of a wave. Considering I'm not a great surfer and I don't get to surf too often, learning to foil surf might be worthwhile. It does still look like fun, and once I get a handle on it, I would appreciate the longer rides.
It gives one the sensation of big wave surfing when only smaller waves can be found. And with significantly less risk..so it's actually quite pleasant and satisfying in it's own way.
Been surfing 26 years and I would guess that foiling is more fun that it looks. I have absolutely no interest in watching someone foil a 3 foot wave that's not even breaking, but like I said I bet it would be fun.
"Less satisfying " you need to include in your equation the fact that in order to get satisfied, you need to compete with an army of surfers that want the same satisfaction on YOUR wave. Much of that is not very SATISFYING at all.. Notice that all that is gone here.
I want to dial in a couple of good, low rockered longboards and surf that place someday from way out back. But foils really open up a lot of wave face that goes unridden. Cool video.
this guy's haters are wack. he did it, you didn't ... get over it. Oh, you paddled where he towed? You paddled along the trail he blazed. Just saying, due respect where respect is due. Guy is a pioneer with the skills to make new things happen. No disrespect to those who come after. But keep the chronology correct.
Yes, they have. Mostly started around 2010, and now they are everywhere and dropping boatloads of lame surfers on the point, ruining the amazing experience that was Chicama. Pre-boats (post zero crowds), the wave handled 400 surfers across a day no problem, mystic walk back, everybody got waves, no hassle. Totally unique experience. Unless it's over 15ft., you don't need a boat
Big props to Laird as one of the god fathers of foil in the surf but I don’t understand why he is on a sup? He gets taken back to the top via zodiac so he could ride a 4’ board with the same foil by having the zodiac tow him in. Seems like he is leaving a lot of turns on the table by riding the sup. Killer footage and wave regardless of the board.🤙
The zodiac is apparently just a taxi and judging by the spot where he takes off, it seems like it would be pretty hard to use a 4’ board without being towed in. In the end, you ride the foil, not the board anyway…
@@aschwa5 It makes sense when towed in or with a kite to use the smallest board possible but, when paddling into bigger waves, I will personally pass on the tiny boards.
Ya know ya kinda get the feelin like no guy lives like this guy. What kinda of a james bond mission impossible wave wisperer is this guy anyway. Touble is he make it look like you could do it to. ;)
Not bad for a guy, 3 years till 60, with a hip replacement and a host of decades injuries! Music, smusick, try to see the forest through the tree, Lee !
Laird's getting old and slowing down . . . back in the day he would have caught 5 waves in the same time period wavesailing! How amazing is he, and the sport of foiling.
Legend has it that he is still riding that wave till this day
Some say when the moon is full you can still hear the sound of slicing water.
And he's not even surfing the pocket!
How rude
Surfing a foil is like riding a bicycle on a flat and smooth road. You'll either fall asleep either get yelled at by your stomach.
@@dggfghh1447 I fell asleep just watching
What's with the music? You'd think he was defusing a nuclear bomb, or just about to cure cancer.

I kept waiting for something really awesome to happen and it was just Laird just cruising back and forth.
Its Laird, comes with the territory, always trying to make shit more dramatic than it is.
The drone footage is incredible, brilliantly shot and framed.
But the music is dumb.
@@roncruiser Couldn't agree more.
Great footage, funny music. The music sounds like it's shark infested waters and any slip means certain death. LOL
It's pretty sharky out there, lot's of sea lions that attract them...there is even evidence from the inkas that this coastline has many sharks
@@nomadhabit I hate to break it to you, but it's "sharky" almost everywhere but the odds of an attack are extremely rare. You're just going to have to face the fact the music is melodramatic. My comment stands uncorrected.
To be honest I think that's sorta the effect they were going for, suspense! Irregardless of sharks that was still pretty rad!
@@mccoybyz1099 Yep, either way I loved the footage. Great stuff.
I was thinking Benny Hill music would be more appropriate.
This guy never stops… love him
Damn good job to whoever was controlling that drone! I surfed Pacasmayo with Laird a few years ago, he is such a cool down to earth dude.

@@tormarquis Wouldn't that be the same if you were surfing? You'd still have to compete with every surfer in the lineup to catch the wave.
As a Peruvian it was an honor to have this guy surfing in my country
Amazing. To quote an old surfing movie, “that ride is so long it’s not surfing-it’s transportation!” 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Nice how the foil can easily stay in the wave despite wave being quite flat
Excellent music choice, it's not just some dude fun cruizing, it's Laird Hamilton rinding the longest wave in the world, epic!
What’s with the music? Is he foiling the ring to Mordor?
Lol 😂
Yeah, beautiful place but the music is ugly.
Best yet 🤣
This comment made my day. Thank you.
Grande Lair, siempre te sigo, saludos desde Marcona-Perú
The back drop is sick, he is flying!
That's the most gorgeous longboard wave I've ever seen...
No, a bit too flat. You would be able to surf parts of it but like this. A foil is the only way to go for a really long ride.
@@powskier True. I bet it fires with more size, but I wouldn't know.

I surfed my old 9'6" Wingnut Noserider (Surftech) at Chicama. So much fun.
That looks so weird, surfing without a rail in the water.
Music is so epic, might be best suited for Nazare, not a mush burger forever chill foil
King of shoulder hoppers.
The El Hombre of surfing .........
Music is not a good choice!
However Laird is foil legend
🤙
Agreed. The music is a little too dramatic. Ok its way too dramatic but yes anything Laird does is still cool.
If he was beating back a hoard of great whites with his sup paddle it would have been spot on :)
Have to disagree. The music choice is very appropriate for Laird. The music is dramatic and horrible nontheless.
@@Putocurioso Yeah O'l Laird is pretty horrible and dramatic!
Dang I’d like to ride that wave on a normal long board. You could have a picnic.

What kind of board is that? It is not on top of the water. Really crazy. Is this for real, or just a simulation???
