7:59 To Cordner...... Sorry it's Kelly O'Donnell. Ah no commentator, it was David Cordner no 28 for Melbourne who took that mark! The commentator should have not corrected himself! 😅🤣😂
Went to this game 40 years ago and loved it, sat at punt rd end, the commentary wasn't great, but at least the game was WAY better than today's 250 kicks 150 handballs for 10 goals (maybe)!!!!
My God, I think you're right Rhett... This might be the worst commentary I've heard for anything, Let alone Footy... This commentator has the voice and cadence of David Boon. Simply shocking. XD
I agree, the commentator seems very disinterested and unable to keep up. BUT, id actually prefer this guy compared to Ch.7's modern and recent commentators eg. Bruce McAvaney who goes off on tangents often and also commentates with unfair bias for some teams and against some teams, Brian Taylor who also commentates with unfair bias for and against some teams, Matthew Richardson a lot of times doesn't have a clue what he's talking about as well as with bias, and James Brashaw who doesnt have a clue what hes talking about as well as sucks up BT's arse. All of them suck up the AFL execs arse for their corrupt corporate desire to have certain teams taste success and others fall for a bit via umpire rigging and commentary narratives. They all also suck up the AFL' execs in terms of encouraging the non-democratic narrative of over-sanitization of our game 'being a good thing'. I'm a life-long footy fan, i was never asked how i feel about these rule changes and new 'interpretations' to over sanitize our game, making it way over clean and nowhere near as a spectacle as it once was. Its been forced on us from these opinion makers, and most people are too apathetic or feel 'its just a game'(you could fooled me with the passion that is historically come with our game, and the time and money families have invested over the last 150+ years of our game.) Sure the ball skills are more professional, but the art of the contest and tackling etc is now quite boring and makes me pull my hair out in despair.
I have a game, i don't think it was pro football it might have been, but it between Fitzroy and Melbourne at the Junction oval and the guy was kinda similar to this. But the dude had a cold and was coughing constantly through commentary and was the only commentator on
Voice does kind of sound familiar but maybe he a commentator in other sports normally and this was his attempt to trial being a VFL commentator but obvious to himself and others being a caller was not his lot. I suspect he was either from the cricket guys on 3LO or Around The Grounds guy on 3DB, 3KZ or 3UZ back in late 70's and early 80's. But the voice does sound like someone from radio or World of Sport in that era, I heard as a little kid.
Give me Lou Richards and Doug Heywood etc,.... any day of the week!!! I don't know who most of the players are as the game goes on. If anyone has an old Footy Record from this game, please could you do us all a favour and type in the numbers/names of both teams players.
He walks into the pub after the game "Oh well, that went pretty well!"
Who gathers to What who finds I Don't Know in the centre. He runs forward to Why, handballs to Because and I Don't Care kicks the goal.
STILL better than 7 currently
Perhaps the commentator should’ve picked up a Record on his way in.

Sounds like a harness racing caller. 3uz or 3db.🤔

This is legendary.
$27 is the icing on the cake.
plus P&H
He's got no idea who the players are At least he knows it's Richmond vs Melbourne 😂
23.30 Big mouth breathing once. Twice.
We wait for the umpire to bounce the ball again.
Here it is.
Down she goes and up she goes.
Instant classic.

Being charitable, I imagine the commentator originally rostered on phoned in sick and this bloke was hauled out of the Southern Stand to fill in.
I remember about 30 years ago Dave Lennon was a short-lived commentator on channel 2 VFA footy . He wasn't good
Sounds like he nailed half a pack of Winnie Blues during the match, probably scrounged them from Louie Richards. 🤣
I'd just had my second Dutch rollie first thing in the morning, and he was rougher than I was.

"And the score is 6-10-45"
Do the credits give the name of the commentator? Certainly, the 1986 ones do, including a StKilda-Hawthorn game done by Arthur Higgins!
Don't have the credits on it sadly
I think I heard the name Cyril just before the 2nd quarter, so that could be a clue.
Vision is fantastic....
Commentary is definitely the worst I've ever heard .

Sure he wasn't smoking? Because this guy sure is if you listen closely.

I am pretty sure this was Doug Bigelow/ great comments guy on TV - probably just having an off day
