There's a guy from MIT that did this long before AI started being used. His little robots were programmed to "learn". They would see a problem, record it, solve the problem, record it, and correct the problem. He had several different robots in different stages. The oldest followed perfectly while the youngest stood in the workshop crying. It was really interesting to watch.

About GPS: That idea could work, it only needs:
- Cellular networking for King Bob (to eliminate GPS cold start, which takes a lot of time to start being accurate)
- Mesh networking between minions
- Differential GPS (but RTK base station and modules are expensive AF)
Still won’t work well indoors since concrete buildings block the GPS satellite signals quite well.
You can easily check this yourself with an app on your phone showing you the gps precision and the number of satellites it receives.
instead of gps couldn't Ultra Wideband (like AirTags) just work? King Bob has a sender and all the other minions try to maintain a set distance (calculated with the signal strength). To avoid the followers from crashing into each other, the set distance could be made to be different for each of them. And if you don't want them to be in a line, you could also add senders with different signals to some of them and have others keep a set distance from them two, forcing whatever formation you want.
GPS NOT have accurate, not can use less than 10 meter accurate, worst idea use GPS, many use car speedometer GPS but this not have accurate not can measure less than one meter ewer, glad if can measure 10 meter, normal can measure only 100 meter accurate if can connect many satellite.
@@mattivirta D-GPS can have accuracy up to 1cm, which is neat for geodesics. The problem is that niche usecase have niche hardware with niche prices.
Infrared LEDs on Bob and cameras on the others would probably be the easiest way to do it. Radio direction finding like airtags might also be worth trying but would be less accurate. But less accurate might be more fun as they have more of a random walk around them.
Also, email the marketing people at the mall, tell them you can do a minion show, it will normally cost them $2000 but you want to film it for your UA-cam so you are willing to do a special deal and not charge.

instant suggestion to make them more stable, either design your own or buy some gyroscopic stabilizers, just make a spinning top design, put it in the body somewhere and put a motor to make it spit super fast, keeping it upright will allow for them to still turn but it'd be harder for them to fall over

Following Kingbob is easy! You already had the hardware to do it: the ultrasonic range sensors. Kingbob emits, minions listen with 2 ears, adjust bearing. It's shockingly easy to track sound, especially ultrasound.
Could also use a number of other localized and accurate methods including IR, Bluetooth, RF, etc. there’s some pretty cool solutions to be had!

But, I guess he can't because of the copyrights. I have a practical mind. Another example is race cars. Yeah, it's interesting what people can create, but it mostly serves one purpose, making unnecessary noise, and it has to be thrown away later.
