Contractor belt becomes tool box! Is a TOTE the solution??

- No matter what I seem to do, the belt becomes the tool box and it weighs enough so I don't wear it. I really like the fact that I seem to always have what I need but that comes at the price of weight. SO........ is the TOTE the answer? I am thinking it is but in my small tool trailer, I have a distinct problem as to where this magic tote will go.

I also use Dewalt Tstak. They make good drawers that stack together and can mount on a roller cart, then on top of the drawers I use a Tstak open tote tool box with a long handle. That open tote is my go to tool box for almost everything and holds a lot of the basics! Good luck finding something that works for you, Steve!
Hi Mark. Thanks for commenting! The TSTAKs and the Packouts have really come a long way recently and offer (as you point out) some really great storage and mobility options. Something I definitely will look into as I work out the design for the new trailer since these stacks would need space to store while in between jobs.
Hey Spence! I would highly recommend that you check out the Veto Pro Pac line of bags and totes. Yes, they are expensive, but they are by far and away the best quality, best made products that I have ever used. They have several versions and sizes to where you can get exactly what you want. I have the Veto Pro Pac Tech MCT Blackout Customizable Medium Sized Compact Service Tech Tool Bag (copied straight from the description on the order form lol) and I absolutely love the bag! I like being able to zip up the tools I have in there instead of having an open "tote" style, but it is the best money I have spent on a tool organizer.
Hi Russ! Thanks for jumping in to the conversation! Good idea. I looked into the Veto totes and backpacks a while ago before I decided on the Klein backpack for my electrical tools. I went with Klein because it was $100 less and had good reviews and it was a way to see if the backpack for tools was a way to go. I will copy/paste your suggestion and give it a look. I am leaning towards a tote for carpentry/construction rather than a backpack (good idea about zipping up though).... unless the new trailer would allow for a rolling TSTAK or Packout. I am up/down steps a lot and wonder about the rolling drawers and if they would not be the way to go at first.
I currently use Dewalt Tstak but also for my belt I use the Toughbuilt belt with cliptech.
I keep pouches with certain sets of tools for various tasks and the rolling tool bag is enough for some bigger tools along with storing 3 detachable pouches for your belt and you can store the belt in the tool bag when you arent using it while you use the portable pouches that can stand up on their own.
They also have a new portable stacking system still coming out that holds pouches as well as drawers with a rolling drawer box for the bottom unit soon.
If you are just looking for a small tool tote seperate from the belt I found the Craftsman 18 pouch tool tote is great.
After rewatching I would say that Craftsman 18 pouch one or one of the toughbuilt totes with a cliptech belt. There are many different sizes depending on how much room you have and having various pouches will keep whatever is on you light. And if you need more tools just clip more on or use bigger pouches. You can hang the pouches from anywhere in your trailer that has a flat wall.
3-Gun! Thanks for the great suggestions and from your experience, these should be a solid solution to research. Detachable pouches reminds me of my kit in the army and the webvest or the body armor and the different add-ons they had to hold/haul just about anything! Again....Thanks! Great suggestions.
I start the day with a mostly empty tool belt and grab whatever I need for the day out of the tool bag. I'd never need tin snips for framing or a chalk line for doing trim work. There's no point in carrying around tools that you're not going to touch all day.
Loading my tools every morning also gives me a chance to grab any fasteners, shims, blades or any other consumables I'll need.

I have tried it but I must not have done it for 21 days because I seem to accumulate again and again from empty to 10 lbs then to empty. I even have set up a drawer in my tool trailer to unload the belt each night but again....haven't formed the habit like you. Hi...I am steve. I have a problem. Step 1.
Ok, listing to you for quite some time. You have a perfect trailer setup but still looking to expand to a bigger one so with that said soon you’ll be looking like a Mexican cowboy with double tool belts across your chest 🤣🤣 start by getting smaller belts and set em up for different job functions hang ‘em somewhere where they’re ready to strap on just like Wyatt Earp . You’re the man👍👍
Pit....you got me thinking....a double tool belt, tied low on the leg, hammer holder filed down for faster draw. Oh....I gotta have that!
Tool bucket might be a solution. DeWalt just came out with a decent one.
Thanks for commenting MG! I had not seen that they had one out. I will take a look! A lot will depend on if I can have the hand tools easily visible and also having a few power tools (driver, drill, multitool, etc) that store well and again, easy to get too. I appreciate the suggestion. Amazon....here I come!!!
I'm over having my occidental bags spilling out every day. I'm leaning towards the DeWalt backpack but I haven't pulled the trigger. I need (want) two more medium Toughbox's first.
The set as they sell them roller, medium, small make decent steps when working and two stacks plus a board make a bench.
I know what you mean though. I don't want the "tote" because it doesn't stack but I guess like the back pack you could rig up a hanger.

I have a $200 Klein backpack for my electrical but am wondering about the space in a backpack arrangement for regular carpentry/contracting jobsites and the tools I would like to have close and not in the trailer but not in the belt either. How would something on wheels do for you going into and out of jobsites?
I use DEWALT TSTAK drawers with the rolling 4 wheel cart.
"Hello There!" Great to hear from you Master Kenobi. You have a great idea with the TStak wheel cart/drawers. The current small tool trailer won't really support that kind of arrangement but the new/bigger trailer could if I design it with that in mind. I assume it works well for you and is easy to get on and off the jobsite?
@@sdsconstruction rough terrain isn't fun but once in your good. I want a trailer but we bought a house in an HOA in 2013 for our starter going on forever home. For now I have a dually and have almost everything in the tstaks. Can't beat 35 dollars for drawers.
