I think a big advantage of Apple Music you missed is their library management. In Spotify when I tap on an artist it shows every song in my library. In Apple Music, it keeps the songs organized by album, which is how I prefer to view my music.
Hard agree. Spotify’s UI is clearly geared around searching for something to play, or pulling up a playlist. Apple Music is all about building and curating your own library. Personally, I’ve found Apple Music’s recommendations better quality overall as well, though it definitely lacks the breadth of personalized playlists. Even the infinite play feature on Apple Music has surfaced some seriously awesome stuff for me.
Thank you for this I want the opposite so great to know
The big disadvantage with that is that it shows singles as albums as well. The album view just ends up getting cramped. Spotify allows you add individual songs to your library and if you want the Album associated with the song, you can add that separately. The control over what you want and don’t want in Spotify is unmatched.
@Goopy Le Grande Apple Music has folders as well.
the thing i don’t like about Apple Music library is when i downloaded an album, all the songs from the album are in my song library, it’s annoying because i won’t like all the songs from one album
Maybe I missed this, but the only reason I'm still on Spotify is for collaborative playlist with friends, something that doesn't currently exist in Apple Music. If Apple brought that over, I'd switch.
But will your friends switch over if apple does bring over collaborative music?
@@rustylarry7465 the couple that are on Spotify, yes, we’ve all expressed a desire but not until they have this feature.

I love Apple Music's UI, sound quality, and Apple integration but Spotify's mixes and social aspect keeps me from switching :(
Yea the sound quality is significantly better on Apple Music.
I don’t use the mixes so idc about that but Spotify wrapped around the end of the year is a really big thing

@@chrisaugustin9181 doesn't Apple Music do the same thing?
I have a wide range of devices and almost all of them support Spotify. And I just love how its recommendations work. Apple Music feels very limiting to my listening habit. And obviously Spotify Connect is a huge deal for me. And I've tried lossless and Spatial Audio on good equipment and AirPods etc., and honestly they're both overkill if you're not an audiophile or do not have the necessary equipment for that. I hope Spotify rolls out its HiFi tier for those who have the necessary gear, but I listen to my music on Bluetooth earphones or headphones most of the time. Until the day comes where I can listen to lossless on bluetooth or wirelessly, I am happy with what Spotify offers right now.
Thank you for this video! I've been waiting for something like this for quite some time now!
One of the big advantages I like using Spotify is the cross fade playback feature. It is nice to hear playlist with songs that cross fade. In Apple Music the only way you can cross fade is if you are on a Mac and you can cross fade on your laptop. You cannot cross fade on Apple Music app on a phone or iPad.
Apparently you can cross fade on the Android app, which is oddly the opposite of what one would expect
I use both (I’m on a family plan for Spotify but pay for Apple Music myself). Unless I missed it you forgot to bring up the group session on Spotify which allows users to add friends to their session and then they can add songs to the queue. It’s great for car rides. Otherwise a great review, my only critique would be when you said (paraphrased) “if Spotify had all the features from Apple Music then id choose Spotify” when that could also be applied to Apple Music/other music streaming services. Just seemed like a cop out answer. Otherwise fantastic review
I love the videos/visuals on spotify, lyrics, End of year wrap (it tells u all the songs u listen too and hrs spent on artists), when you share your song on IG story u get the visuals if available and also like how easy it is to save music to ur library by just liking❤️🔥
I went back and forth so many times and always loved Spotify's recommendations and mixes... that said, Apple music won out with me because I run with just an apple watch on and it took a long time for Spotify to get their watch app working well. It worked, but it was so buggy until relatively recently. Apple Music has also released very high-end streaming and my home office set up has nice speakers and an amp and I can really hear the difference. Last reason, the Apple Plans since I already use most of their other services, it just made practical sense.
I feel like Spotify wouldn't work as good as apple music on an apple watch as apple music would
@@jaredfleming5085 You'd think so right? It didn't. They didnt even have a dedicated app until last year. I would constantly get syncing issues, and times where my playlists would lag out. Apple Music has worked flawlessly.
Great breakdown! I switched to Apple Music recently and prefer it for all the reasons you stated.
I switched from Apple Music to Spotify 5 years ago because PlayStation only supported Spotify, but since Apple Music is now on PS5 I’m probably going to switch back.
AM is on PS5 but not on PS4? Assholes. So long Apple Music lol.
I need Apple Music on Xbox lol
@@i_Lunardi89 It is now 👍🏻
hey, thanks for informing me that the radio function is worth it, I've been using apple music for a couple months and didnt even consider giving the radio tab the time of day as I expected exactly what you described, now knowing i can discover music outside my general listening habits im eager to hop over and try it out.
also another dig on apple music is the very janky way you have to go about getting it on a windows computer (sideloading the android app on win 11 or using the website/wrapper [neither of which actually give you lossless audio] )
That was incredibly helpful, thank you!
I was a spotify user for almost 5 years, but when I bought my first iphone I got 6 months free of Apple Music, and I miss somethings like Spotify Connect and Wrapped, but the UI, Lyrics (that spotify didn't had, and now still is worse than am) and library system just make me stick with Apple Music. (And I don't like my podcasts together with my songs, actually prefer having two apps)
I'm 2 months into apple music after getting 6 free months. It's a decent service but I'll probably be heading back to Spotify once this trial runs up.
That’s what I thought, but now I’m paying for Apple Music. Figured out how to get Apple Music student while I can’t do it on Spotify. (I graduated, so figured out how to finesse student on apple lmaoo)
I am currently contemplating cancelling my subscription. The app isn't ready yet
TY, for this review! Apple Music also comes free with your upper tier Verizon wireless plan. Apple Music does not cast well to Android devices, though. Sounds significantly better than Spotify on quality equipment and even headphones with lossless. Spotify's algorithm did not work as well for me. Kept recommending songs I would not have any interest in, just because they were popular, it seemed. Just wish Apple Music played well with other devices, like Spotify does.
I hope Apple Music makes more personal playlist like one for everyday of the week. The personalised radio is very good as well
Spotify Connect is what kept me from switching. The lack of that feature on Apple Music was just a deal breaker for me.
Thanks for the amazing video
I while moving from Samsung to Apple I thought I’ll never hear some songs that are on UA-cam and I thought well if I can’t listen to those songs why I’m listening to music so I took a break from music. But now I know that you can import the music that isn’t available on Apple Music and know I can use my music to go to the gym and skip less
Very good overview of the two. I keep bouncing between the two as well. The better sound from Apple Music keeps me subscribed to it. It is definitely noticeable, especially with quality headphones plugged in.
I’ve known about Spotify since 2012 and didn’t start using it seriously until 2014. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to switch. I have 4,000 songs I don’t feel like switching to Apple Music. I also love new music friday playlist and the discovery weekly playlist. It’s absolutely personalized to me and I love it.

One killer move from Apple Music is the ability to upload local music to my cloud library, and then I can add them to my playlist. I have some CDs and the songs in them cannot be found on Apple Music. However, I could just transfer these songs into my Mac, add them to my library, and then add them to my playlist. So handy.
you can literally do the same thing with spotify
@@bilbobeuliNo you can’t. You can add them to local files, but you can’t add them to your library. And in my experience the local files feature on Spotify is very finicky, and my downloads have randomly deleted themself on a few occasions.
As long as other services don’t have the ability to upload your own songs and use it within the same music library, I don’t see myself ever leaving Apple Music.
This a must for Kanye fans 😂
It is possible to do it on Spotify as well^^
UA-cam music has this feature as well
@@tigerchuu2148 really? does it sync across devices?
@@lazichimp Music uploaded to Spotify doesn't sync with other devices, but in UA-cam music it does.
I can also upload my own music files to Spotify and make it sync with the other devices and play them even when all off them are offline or in a different network. Can do it my android phone or my windows pc. Idk why you don’t have it maybe it’s only in Europe or something like that
Subscribed! Your videos are informative and I own both iPhone and Google pixel phones. That's part of the reason I subscribed! I personally like Apple music more because it visually looks much better. I listen to classical music a lot. I live in Utah and there is a classical radio channel called KBYU. A few times I used my phone to Shazam by holding it in front of a speaker I couldn't get the results on Spotify but on Apple music or UA-cam Music
with the spotify local files feature u only need to be on the same wifi to link the songs to other devices. once they're imported u can play them whenever
i use both and tbh i love Spotify more because the design is so pleasing and Apple isn't as good as Spotify's design. the sound quality however is on Apple Music, even tho it offers you lossless audio, I just bump up my Spotify volume and it sounds the same. Spotify is cheaper in my country
i can use live lyrics feature in my iphone but i cant use it on my windows pc is it available on pc or not pls help ???
I’m often back and forth as well but rarely stick to Spotify for longer than a few days. I pay for Apple One and UA-cam premium. Plus Spotify feels crowded because they run their podcasts through the same app.
Agreed. I switched to AM exclusively because of this. I listen to podcasts separately via Pocketcasts and HATE that Spotify is so pushy with their podcasts, even though I'm not subscribed to any on their platform.
@@kolinetic Same here. I just started using Pocketcasts a few weeks ago and it is my preferred way to listen.
Idk bout you but Spotify never pushed its podcasts on my account. It does recommend some but that’s such a minor this that it’s easy to ignore.
Wonderful objective comparison.
I am using two of them. Apple music sounds much cleaner and clearer. You can hear every instrument. It will be best if you’re using AirPods pro or max. It’s just so enjoyable. Their playlists and algorithms are yet improved. Spotify is not too bad. I normally use Spotify at work and Apple Music at home, bed time and weekends. Apple Music has improved my life styles because of immersive spatial audio with Dolby Atmos while Spotify has given me great algorithms during my listening time at work place. 👍👍
I just changed to Apple Music as I got the AirPods 3 with mag safe charger and the quality is so so so so good. Spotify was about to release a hi fi version but haven t

Hi Josh, Nice job! Hey so I'm curious, why is there no affiliate link for people who choose Itunes subscription, they click on it and you get paid too. Is that not allowed in the UA-cam description or something?????
The Ed Sheeran to John Williams comment is so specific and definitely accurate for me on Apple Music.
I wish there was a feature where I can listen to Spotify on my PS5 while also being able to remotely add to Apple Music from my console. Basically instead of having to pick up my phone while I’m playing games I can do a simple add to my phones library. That way I don’t have to put my game on hold, put down the controller and pick up my phone. Not that we desperately need this, I think if it was a thing, gamers who love music would utilize it.
my lord, never seen a more relaxing and also teaching video bless u, Team Apple for sure
I have Spotify downloaded both on my phone and PC!
Actually Spotify has something called local files which allows you to upload files from Mac Linux or windows and put local mp3 files on your personal playlists and listen on all of your devices
Are they in a separate part of the app though?
@@HamazingKayliee No local files is a feature directly available in the app

People are mentioning YTM. I like the fact with YTM you can add live versions of songs from concerts to your playlist with video.
As an example Jimi Hendrix’s live Voodoo Child from Woodstock with video.
Depends on a lot of things. Apple’s lossless is good but you have to have a good pair of headphones to actually enjoy it. Spotify has nice UI and connectivity, as I switch between my PC, phone and TV.
Like I said it depends …
Seamless switching between devices makes Spotify the best honestly

Dolby Atmos ment to be listened through home theater speakers. Vocals are unmufled because usually they are used from a dedicated recording line of a singer in studio. For example Jackson5 has every singer on a separate speaker
Dude. I just switched to Apple Music thanks to you. 👍🏼
i've been using both for couple months now and i just know that the day the apple decides to put some elbow grease into their playlists and autoplay feature, spotify will have no chance, and at that point it'll just be a battle of gimmicks. honestly, apple music is so well-integrated into apple devices that i'm willing to find other resources to find recommendations and use apple music as my player.
For me the most major difference between this music apps is that in Spotify u can sort ur playlist by recently added, etc…sth that is missing in apple music, when apple add that feature im going to change

I switched from Spotify to Apple Music over a year ago and never looked back. I just don't like the UI of Spotify, and I don't use customized playlists/mixes. Spotify also doesn't have lyrics which is one of the most important things to me.
Spotify does have lyrics wym??
That feature was added pretty recently.
the music recommendation algorithm is the best on spotify, imo
Here is an interesting problem. I want to listen to music off line in my car. I don't have a data plan on my iPhone. Can you download music to a flash drive? So you ask why not Apple Car Play? Sometimes it take 10 minutes of re-booting to get that to work in my 2019 Honda Civic Touring. But if that is the only method for Apple Music that would not be a deal breaker. I have managed so far to download UA-cam music to a flash drive and I keep a few Flash Drives in the car for my 50 minute commute. Thanks for any comments.
I love using apple music when driving. I could ask siri to play any songs that I like. Very convenient and also student price for apple music way cheaper than spotify in my country 😊
I'm still having a hard time deciding between the two. Apple music is half the price of Spotify despite having technically a slightly larger library. But spotify is easier to use for me...
For me Apple music is better because of the way I use the service: I like to create my own playlist just the way I want and use Apple's human curated playlist only when I get into a new genre or need a quick fix for the current mood. I don't let the algorithm dictate my music, ever.
When I was using Spotify I found it harder to manage my playlists. Not alot of people know but on the desktop version of Apple music (Mac OR Windows) you can create Smart playlists based on queries you create by inputing a number of criterias like: "get me 25 random songs that came out in 2022, in the Hip-Hop genre, exclude Tekashi69 songs.
The only thing I hate is that all my friends are on Spotify. But it's not something I would change for. People around me are not that social regarding music anyways.
the video is very helpful
Personally I like Apple Music better but one thing I hope they can correct is that if you need to cancel for a few months you lose all your playlists and everything in your library and you need to start completely fresh. I really hope they can change it so when you reactiavate your account it loads all your previously saved stuff back in. You will never have this problem with Spotify since you can use the free version until you are able to subscribe again.
oh jeez! thats awful :(
But..it does save all your stuff? Maybe there’s a time limit but I’ve let my subscription go for a few days and all my 12 playlists and music library were just as they were when I restarted my subscription 🤷🏾♀️ Mind you, I’ve been using Apple Music for over 3 years
oh damn, i was saying to myself what happened to my old apple music playlists and stuff. shit's all gone lol thankfully i had them backed up on spotify.
The only things keeping me in from switching to AM is that Spotify has a better windows app, and being able to control your music from other devices. I own a Windows PC, an android, an iPad and my iPhone. Spotify just works better between these devices. Oh, also the playlists and discoverability of niche tracks on Spotify is way better for me
Apple Music is available on android
@@Hailz01Gamming Yes but it's dog shit compared to the iOS version
Definitely sth I needed to be compared
I’m an Apple Music fan. Spotify is good as well, but I just prefer the sound quality of Apple Music. I also like the fact that Apple Music pays the artist more. In Spotify an artist gets $1 dollar per 500 plays, while Apple Music is 125.
Also, Apple Music now has an updated ‘Replay’ which is more along the lines of Spotify warp 😃
The only reason I like Spotify more is it suggests new songs for specific playlists. Does apple do that? I’m considering switching.
Yes
available, maybe not as good as Spotify’s algorithm
Great comparison, thanks. Only advantage I can see with Apple over Spotify is lossless which I would like on my home stereo, the only place I can actually hear the difference. On the go this is not relevant. Hopefully Spotify will soon pull their heads outta their asses and get moving on this.
Also it's "kilobits" and not "kilobytes" 😉
Agreed. I have a set of good headphones (AKG-K52) and to me, the difference between Apple Music (or TIDAL) is pretty significant compared to Spotify’s 320kb streams.
You gotta do a video on Amazon Music as well.
That’s the next one on the list!
I have amazon unlimited and only downside for me is that it’s not compatible for PS5. I hate apples mixes/recommendations, and Spotify just doesn’t have that quality sound yet.

Im not into Generic and popular songs anyways.
And
Of course, Apple Music Sound Quality slaps Spotify to the ground specially Hi-res and lossless and Spatial implemented in apple music. Its a massive experience and turning back to Spotify i can hear how the sounds sucks. (Even in the highest Sound quality Spotify has.)
Also a advantage of Apple Music is good lyricsUI
Disable Audio Normalization feature on Spotify it will give you more dynamics.

I think a lot of people pick one of the 2 initially and then just stick with it because they don’t want to lose their history of songs. Even if one is better than the other I think a lot of people pick 1 and stick with it. Might just be me tho
Audio quality is the biggest thing for me. I tried Spotify, loved the app. I was definitely able to notice the difference in my AirPods Pro though.
I'll stick to Qobuz, which is still unparalleled in terms of sound quality, and provides a very sober, hassle-free and polished layout with good editorial contents. Their catalog is not that vast, though.
Apple Music for me it's just too much focused on the Apple ecosystem, may be the perfect solution for the APPLE devoted iPHONE, iPOD, Air Pods, Home Pod, Cloud+, TV+ user. But no Windows Desktop App and limited Web App makes the whole thing not much of a deal for a Windows/Apple user like me.
Other streaming platforms make the service available no matter which device you're on, and it works just the same (iOS, Android, PC, MAC, Web).
On apple music there is actually something like spotify wrapped
Love the lossless audio quality of Apple Music but I prefer Spotify's UI A LOT MORE
I would just go with Apple Music but I listen to a lot of podcasts and Apple Podcasts isn’t supported for me to use in my Tesla. I can use Apple Music and Spotify though and Spotify allows me to use my same podcast playlist to keep my spot where I was listening with both my cars. Spotify in the Tesla seems a lot smarter too when it comes to automatically playing when I get in. If I was using it last it’ll play where I left off when I get back in. Apple Music sometimes won’t even start up and if it does it’ll usually play something random. Kind of annoying.
As far as picking which one I prefer, I’d rather use Apple Music and the separate Podcasts app. For now I keep both subscriptions because my wife prefers Spotify and the above mentioned podcast use.
