PRO TIP: don't open it all the way. once you crack it open, carefully and gently open it about 25 degrees, like a clamshell. then use needle pliers to unplug the battery. you can tip the controller upside down and shake the battery out of its retainer. no need to mess with triggers and springs like you did. then use the same pliers to plug in the new one, and wiggle the battery into place.
That's also a pro tip for someone who can pull it off without it, but for newbiess it be faster for them to just learn how to take it off and put the triggers back it's educational. Teling a beginner to do this might break the power cable or something else, The proper way to replace it and the professional way is to take it apart completely as shown in all guides, I'm sure your pro tip is called a lazy tip instead for professionals.
I just swapped out the batteries on two ps4 controllers. Both times I took them apart, the triggers ended up being on the front. Made the whole process a lot easier. Did both in about 10 minutes.
Pro tip: Buy the Turnigy 2000mAh 1S 1C Lipo w/ 2 Pin JST-PH battery from Hobbyking. The battery last for ages. You have to snip the two pin connector off your old battery, and solder it on to the new battery, but well worth it.
@@alex-vm1fe i know this is a very old reply but it depends on your controller, theres two different models and both use differently sized two pin connectors
Open up your controller before you order the batteries and check the battery model number. It seems that Sony thought it would be a good idea to put different plugs on the batteries. They are only slightly different but enough that the wrong ones will not plug in.
I just successfully changed my battery. I actually had an issue with the spring popping off inside the controller years ago even though it was brand new. The spring popped off again when I opened the controller to change the battery. I had forgotten how much fun it is to reassemble that pesky little pain in the butt. But all is reassembled & working properly. I enjoyed the video.
Face the top part of the controller towards you. Hold the trigger buttons upward, set them, and easily close it back up. Much easier than struggling with it like you were.
Thank you so much! Just saved hella money by switching to UA-cam...bought another controller anyway but I did fix my other one by replacing the battery. Now I have 2! Thank youuuuu
If he would have said milliamp hours in the video, someone would have squawked about how he could just say “Mah” to save time and avoid confusion for the laymen.
Kinda ricockulous that you cannot use the controller while plugged in to the console... with or without a dead battery.... I literally have maybe 40 hours on this controller and it went tits up already... Sony must sell a lot of replacement controllers....
No it's not the 20th anniversary controller is made with 2 dual shocks that if you don't use them in some long period of time, the dual sticks turn oily and sticky. Also on top of that the D-pad feels too plastic and hard on my thumbs, it's not as good as the original ps4 controller. which also felt smaller.
Got a new gold controller it died out of nowhere you think changing the battery will help that situation also does not hold charge but lights up when I plug it in.🤷🏽♂️
Good vid :) I just bought a used PS4 (For Shenmue 3, obviously) and the battery life in the controller is pretty shocking haha, guessing it's worn... My only issue with buying replacements on ebay is the stuff that comes from China can be amazing, but can also be dangerous as hell haha. I charge my controller using a Samsung galaxy cable into the mains, it's long enough to stretch from the console to the sofa - I'd just feel uncomfortable leaving it on charge with a chinese battery in it :p
Damn i even maneged to get a new gen controller batery into the old controller. My new one has been glitching for shooter games since the beginning. Now swapped the battery. Same battery but different plug in system. New ones are smaller than the older so i got the smal plug into the big 'plug-in' but wouldn't have worked other way around
Help me, I got two controllers.. Both died after a week gap but after using for around 5 years. However, they both charge but when I unplug it turns off. What should I do?
I upgraded to a pro at Xmas so it's only 6 months old, only ever charged the control pad off the console in rest mode and the battery is toast already????
funny how you re assemble it by magic, that shit was a pain in the ass. Solution, I bought another controller. I don't have the patience for this shit.
You know the cables that connect to the battery and how they have the little white plastic thing at the end of the wires and how you put that into another white plastic thing connected to the mother board, I broke the white plastic thing connected to the motherboard. Any suggestions to get it back on and work perfectly
This is so damn frustrating! ive got the one of the newer 3rd gen pads and the spring for the triggers is attached inside the pad and cant be removed like shown here (for the triggers). The triggers dont snap into place and both are screwed now. There doesnt seem to be a guide anywhere online on how to fix the new pads
i have searched and searched and searched how to take apart a ps4 controller. mine is sadly a third part and when i take it apart, the battery will not budge. if anyone can help me with this, that would be great.
I did this to replace the battery in my controller but when I put my headphones I get no audio. Does anyone have a solution coz i get bored af during this lockdown.
I've changed mine for an 2000mAh battery, but it won't charge :/ i've beem scammed right? I don't think there was any problem with the installation at all
:D this is a guide to destroy controller, okay, use metal screwdriver for gaps, let it be, but how you opened the case ripping the flex cable that part got me :D
I've just done this and my ps4 controller still isnt working 🤔 It stopped working like a week ago and I put it down to using the wrong plug that had sent to much of a voltage to it and fried the battery...but this hasnt worked...any ideas?
faithful song customer but one very annoying thing for me is why they continue to build controllers that are this hard to replace batteries for. And dual shock is not cheap at roughly sixty per controller. I realist this a business but then add that their systems are not backwards compatible. In some way Microsoft is more sensitive to thier consumers. They remind me of apple and if you want more memory, by a new 500 dollar device. It is a let em eat cake philosophy. I dont want the pro with no player for movies to it on dvd and they can keep the ps 5!!
I just tried to replace the battery in the new PS4 PRO controller and it doesn't fit. The connection is different. I did this previously with my old PS4 controller. It's the same battery I bought before.
When i plug it in the yellow light comes out but it not charges the controller i can still play with it but when i unplug it controller stops working Is ıt because of my usb port or my battery?
My controller stopped charging after about 4 years of use. I'm guessing this will solve the issue? The controller turns the PS4 on when I press the power button but it doesn't hold a charge at all. The light doesn't even turn on when plugged in.

I think the reason it won't turn on for long because the battery isn't in its normal state, so the controller won't charge, you Maybe know how i can fix it?
Ive recently opened up my ps4 conteoller to replace the shell, and it seemed to work fine until i realized that my led light in the back doesn't work and my controller isn't charging, I opened it up again and all the cables look find and nothing seems broken, anyone know any reason why?
Yeah mate the cable that runs from the place near the light till near the battery is spoilt or not connected..Thats where the led light gets it power and where the remote is charged
You should be wary of batteries that advertise their capacity like that, most places lie about their actual capacity. Most batteries that state they're 2000 mAh are most likely just 1000 mAh or *less*. I suggest shopping at hobby sites, like those for Arduino sites.
it does not work with any controllers, i'm trying riggt now to put thr battery from the first controller that came out with the ps4 in the new controller and the entry piece of the battery is not the same
in the new slim console controller the LIP1522 connector is different, does anyone know what its called and where i can get a new battery? ive tried reinstalling my old large capacity battery from the standard model but it doesn't fit...Sony discreetly changed the connector on the controller MOBO...

I just swapped out the batteries on two ps4 controllers. Both times I took them apart, the triggers ended up being on the front. Made the whole process a lot easier. Did both in about 10 minutes.
Were the batteries original play station licensed batteries or they were the after market

mAh

maaaah, mili-amp hours
I was going to comment the same thing...

so my PS4 controller battery is loose should I just put it in the little square where it's supposed to be?
