Sarah Michelle Gellar had requested to cut her hair, so the writers made her haircut a plot point of this episode and she wore a wig for the first few scenes of the episode.
I’ve just now realised how long ago you must have filmed these because it is certainly not hot on this grey rainy March day LOL! 😂 Anyway I generally like this episode and how creative it is with the camera showing a ‘fight’ of nothing happening. Plus Willow managing to go a day without magic, without anyone actually there supporting her through it, is really good for her.
A light-hearted episode was sorely needed at this point in the series. It's a tough season so far with the most grown up themes we've ever seen on Buffy. So it is nice to have this little break, even with a few rough moments thrown in. It's a moment to breathe and laugh. And Spuffy was hilarious.
This is one of those episodes that lets me share one of my favorite SUPER nerdy bits of info; wish I could say I figured this out on my own; alas, I got it from other SF sources. If one thinks about what invisibility actually means for someone, it’s that photons are passing through a person without being affected in any way. Which means all photons are passing through a person’s cells without interacting with any of them. Including the cells in the person’s eyes. Which means that person would be blind. :)
@@Henrik_Holst yep, I believe it was the mid season finale the previous ep I believe. So there was a gap where she wanted to cut it. Hence the wig. Daphne's hair is basically the wig in this ep, not short like at the end.
Here we see Buffy acting as a kind of 'sponsor' for Willow trying to cleanse the house of anything that might tempt Willow to have a relapse. We can see how frosty the Dawn/Willow relationship has now become. Interesting with Spike and Buffy in the kitchen, her addiction to him is also now critical too, as she can't seem to resist his advances. Some comedy with the Probation Inspector with the bag of weed, but again it is serious as it could lead to Buffy losing Dawn, coupled with what the Inspector sees as really strange characters seem to be living there such as Willow and Spike. The Trio now are irritating beyond endurance, and continue to make Buffy's life even more difficult. Buffy actually seems to be enjoying being invisible at this stage as she can now exploit her urges and desires for Spike without getting caught. When Xander comes into the crypt we have the funny, but ridiculous scenario of Spike pretending he is exercising. We have to ask ourselves the uncomfortable question here, is Buffy exploiting Spike? Crazy I know, but this is what is actually happening here. He is being used for her own sexual gratification, with no consequences for her, interesting juxtaposition in role reversal between the two, we even see the soulless Spike being almost hurt by her attitude towards him. Comedy relief at then end with the word 'nemesis' nemesises' etc. Great conversation with Buffy and Willow at the end. A lot to unpack in this episode, hence the lengthy comment. I loved S6, but can see why many did not.
Especially in retrospect with the conversation around the end of this season……. It’s so toxic and sensitive that it really shouldn’t have been done given the audience hopefully hadn’t had to go through any toxic relationship like this. Many people don’t acknowledge Buffy’s behavior towards spike because they believe it’s justice for something he hasn’t done yet. It’s all sad really. She admits it and he forgives her so we accept it.
Great episode and really masterful the juggling of tones: the comedy and the seriousness of themes. Another episode that does that fantastically is "Tabula Rasa".
"I look like a mom today" Every response I have would rightly get me a slap from all of my female friends (I'd still say them, obviously. I'm cheeky to a fault and thankfully banter is expected) On reflection, I'll go with: "Are any of your children called Stacey?" Sorry! I really can not help myself :< It was the safest option... :P A great episode in which Buffy behaved reprehensibly believing she was beyond consequences... and has a small epiphany. Humour, character development and some genuine depth in the underlying themes. Has Buffy reached rock bottom? You already know the answer is no, but it is clear she is in crisis.
Xander didn't realize Buffy was in the bed with Spike because to him, Buffy being with Spike is inconceivable. Back in like S2, remember when Willow saw Xander making out with Cordelia? Her reaction was, "it means you'd rather be with someone you hate than be with me." Same thing here.
Yeah, it wouldn't be in his wildest imagination. Like Willow being with Spike, ridiculous. At the most if even if Xander heard Buffy, he would think it would be some type of demon spike was with.
James had to spend half of the season almost naked. Poor baby. He's body looks stunning, especially here. But for it to look this way you not only have to go to the gym but you also need to go on a diet. So it's lot of work and excellent discipline. And when they were filming his naked scenes Sarah kept tugging at this little piece of fabric he had down there 🙈 I have no words, Sarah. 😎 what he had to go through there
Funny as it is to imagine Sarah teasing James, can’t believe that it’s true- she wasn’t even there for that scene. They used a body double/stand-in when doing the scene in Spike’s crypt. But I have heard she teased him at other times regarding how little he was allowed to wear during their sex scenes- coming on set wearing scarves and ear muffs while he’s basically wearing strategically placed pantyhose😂
@@stephaniebarker472 I don't mean this episode, I am talking about the one after their first sex, when he was practically naked and she was really close to him
@@spikesecho724 I actually barely watched it. I just saw James talking about that particular moment. But regarding dailies I am only interested in those where it's Spike and Buffy. There are some clips and I saw couple of scenes but I am too shy for it and can barely watch it till the end 😄 it's like I am watching real people do smth like that because it looks so intense and I feel I need to hide my blushing eyes 🙈
I love this episode, because the comedy was absolutely needed at this point. HOWEVER - please remember that Spike was telling Buffy to leave when she did some unwanted touching in order to change his mind - and think about how she set the example later on in the season that Spike follows... wrongly, but still. Everyone loves to rage about coming moments, but I can see where the messages between Spike and Buffy have become very mixed, especially in this episode.
SPOILERS There was a certain point in the season where Sarah Michelle Gellar went to the writers and stated they needed to pull Buffy out of the slump. It happened to be the same day they were discussing doing so. In my opinion it happened somewhere between writing this episode and whenever they wrote _As You Were._
yeah the weather is not hot in Highlands today when i watched this. you posted elsewhere that you were watching last ever episode of Buffy so understand how far ahead you are now (hope you liked it) this a great reaction and comments a bit of a sex comedy which i love seeing you laugh and a balance to the darker upsetting stories. looking like and being a Mum are great and your open comments in recent Angel episode on Darla's child show what an emotional and thoughtful person you are.

Recovery from addictions and depression 😮 is cathartic and watching Buffy and Willow slow down, understand what taking responsibility truly means, and coming to grips in a mature way the choices made. You did a good job talking about where Buffy is now but the depths is not fun. The depression caused from having pure peace, security, and love with no problems taken from you would be impossible to fully comprehend You talk about Giles not being there and it ia leaving a hole for you. Exactly. Buffy has a hole left from no one to teach from experience or acceptance. No Joyce, Giles, or even her worthless Father. Her lack of feeling has lead her not just to Spike for sexual pleasure but the toxic feeling of also using him. Buffy has never been a user and she is an abusive partner hurting them both. That abuse is destroying Buffy from her core. This is not the stuff of a typical supernatural teen drama. These are mature and sophisticated themes that are mentally exhausting and thoughtful The laughs are to keep the show interesting and not to be a lecture on mental health and poor personal choices. So I don’t judge this and a few of the future episodes on High school Buffy adventures but has a grown woman understanding that what we do as an adult is different than worrying about the SAT’s or what dress to wear on a date Very good review and your thoughts on Season 6 have been greatly appreciated. Looking forward to your next posting and your thoughts.
I love the invisible person fight here. It's creative. But, is this the low point of the whole series? Everything has gone badly for Buffy, Willow, and Tara. They government might take Dawn away from Buffy. Giles is gone. Buffy might not even have enough money for the house repairs (refer to previous episodes.) Buffy is hiding her relationship with Spike. Dorks are attacking.
I'd add on top of the issues you mentioned... as funny as it may be, Buffy used her invisibility to intentionally mess with the mental health of the social worker. I didn't think much of it the first time I watched it, but since then I really feel uncomfortable with what she was doing there even if she was trying to protect her custody of Dawn. It can really only be forgiven by remembering that Buffy has been behaving out of character in other ways due to her own trauma.
It's super refreshing to see someone enjoy/appreciate how well they're handling things like depression and addiction in this season, when so many people in the fandom shit on this season for being too 'dark' or 'on the nose'. We always talk about the best episodes or best series of episodes. What are the worst 3 in a row episodes of Buffy or Angel. I would have to say that it is this episode, followed by Doublemeat Palace and Dead Things. Dead Things has a really good end scene, but as far as 3 episodes in a row, it's the worst. What's everyone's thoughts?
Doublemeat palace is deffo the worst episode of Buffy ever, worse than Go fish. From the absolutely ridiculous penis monster to the complete degradation of Buffy's character making her have sex in a dumpster, there's nothing I can forgive about that episode.
"She looks a bit like Daphne from Scooby Doo"
Funny that you mention that
🤣 Spike and Buffy Invisible moment Comedy gold try not to blush Dakara lol Stay awesome
Dakara must be loving this season because she's flying through. 😊
Sarah Michelle Gellar had requested to cut her hair, so the writers made her haircut a plot point of this episode and she wore a wig for the first few scenes of the episode.
I wonder if Joss Whedon dared to insult and bully her as he did Charisma Carpenter for this exact choice.
@@arc7375 Wouldn't put it beneath him knowing how much he punished the Spike character throughout the majority of the series.

18:30 I bet Spike will love her new hair - More neck

SMG had a wig because she was actually working on the first Scooby-Doo film as Daphne around this time.
no that was not the reason, all filming for Schooby-Doo was done before the first episode of season 6 was filmed. SMG simply wanted to cut her hair.
