Looks like the Mavic is simply over saturating the colours. It's why the sunset shots look richer, but there's less detail in the darker shots - darker blacks, but less actual image definition. I guess the question is whether the settings of each can be tweaked to match the other and how much they can be worked with during post.
Film that pier in the sea on a gopro, It'll look like a winter Olympic ski jump with it's lens distortion. Difference between a f2.2 and f2.8 gives you better low lights and ability for the sensors shutter to be lower which really helps these small sensors not get jelly and rolling shutter, historically we are used to with small cmos cameras. Great video Mate. Anticipating its arriving to upload loads of vids.
Realistically, I carry 3x batteries so P4/Mavic Drone 1360g/481g 3x Batteries 1386g/720g Rc(inc phone) 1077g/510g. So my rucksack trail mountain walking weight difference is p4 3823g against mavic 1711g = 2112g (4.6lbs) so basically I'll be able to carry an extra 2 liters of beer.

Been looking through a TON of review on these two drones and the in-depth details of both drones. After every video I watched, I would still have questions on the drones about certain things. This review however, was hands down the best review out there. I recommend this review to anyone looking for details between these two drones!

The phantom 4 images are stunning, whereas the Mavic images are "just alright". maybe its because of the wider viewing angle, or maybe the sharpening levels.... i just prefer phantom 4 images over mavic. I would say its 2x better. If you compare at 13:20 and 13:25, you see phantom sharper with way better contrast. Then again at 15:26 and 16:33

What are you talking about? They're very similar, the P4's are more sharp, but that's onboard processing, and IMHO they're too sharp, I much prefer the Mavics more natural looking footage. Nothing post wouldn't easily fix.

Joe Gentry I was thinking the same thing lol! Interviews with DJI are hilarious. They said that they feel guilty because people are still buying phantom 4 when the mavic is so much better and is replacing it but so many people are still buying P4
I dont own any drones. I am a first time drone buyer and trying to decide on which one. I am amateur photographer so image quality is very important and so i watched this on 4k monitor. i am trying to decide if versatility of Mavic > image quality of phantom. I would love versatility but that wide angle camera on P4 looks outstanding.
Dude, You deserve many many many more subscribers. You are better than most of them youtubers who just give stupid reviews and no details. You are probably the first guy who explained autofocus in the Mavic pro.

The mav's camera still isn't as sharp, and you have to tap the screen to make it focus, just like a phone camera. But if size is more important to you than quality then go for it
You can always easily sharpen your footage, but if sharpness is baked in by the camera, you're stuck with it, even if it's too sharp for the scene. It depends on what you want, if you want something cool to show your friends without it ever touching an editing package, phantom 4 is usually going to be the way to go - if you plan on putting in cuts, tweaking the colour, it's only an extra click to sharpen, and you have the luxuary of choosing how much, so it would have to go to the mav in that scenario.
+William Jones Just use the DJI app and set sharpness to -2 and it looks very similar to the Mavic. No need to accept built-in sharpness as it lets you control that aspect.
Mavic Pro is the solid winner, new to drones and I am getting the Mavic! Easier to transport, sharper, compact, the remote doesn't seem like a block in your hands. Wow, Mavic Pro is truly a game changer

Both great drones but I do love the mavic pro, not just for the extra bits and size, but also the look of it. I've never been an Apple fan, and the phantom just looks like a flying mac book!

At 16:37, there is a flutter in the video that seems to be in frequency with the rotors. You're saying 'Coming Back." Center screen around the white condo building at the parking lot edge. Can you identify what causes that?

What about a tablet? I'm old codger and don't have great vision so I fly the P3 with an Nvidia Shield (hooded). My Note 4 works okay but outside in bright sunlight even with a shield it is hard for me to see it well. I realize the Shield won't fit in the bracket but there are ways to get around that. The Shield also has HDMI out so it will work along with my HeadPlay goggles (or with an HDMI to RCA video adapter and any goggles). Some have suggested that DJI is working on their own brand of FPV goggles to work with the Mavic. Maybe another way to soak us for $100 like the P3's HDMI module.

The low light review is biased. you NEVER use automatic mode when trying to shoot low light. NEVER EVER. You want to manually set your ISO, you shutter speed etc. This point is not to be taken into consideration. Also, for sports mode, there is a pretty easy way to get rid of the propelers: Get a a god damn ND filter. Any drone pilote should have a set of ND filters. The propellers gets blurred away, and you get to shoot at the right shutter speed.
I dunno about that. MsMoeb is saying that with an ND filter you can set a sufficiently slow shutter speed that the motion of the props will cause them to seemingly disappear. Plausible, but untested by yours truly.
At a shutter speed of 30 to 50, you don't see them anymore.
At best, you will still see blur but the arms would still be viewable. Of course ND Filter is always the way to go anyway as you want to achieve a shutter speed double the frame rate. The Night video shouldn't be done in Auto for sure though. If you look close the P4 was ISO 1600 and the Mavic was ISO 800, so settings definitely not the same. The wider aperture 2.2 vs 2.8 should assist the Mavic though.
Yeah, it's very clear from the footage that the P4 was overexposed relative to the Mavic. So it's totally apples to oranges. Not at all meaningful.
MsMoeb people just need to accept that the mavric is better then,the fantom 4 .plane and simple and it's all about easy to,travel with mavric win s

Great review. The question I have is can you have the drone return to the controller location instead of original take off point? I will fly this from a moving boat and obviously don't want a return to the original GPS takeoff point.
Verry nice review Iphonedo! I have seen some review video's/vlogs of other UA-camrs, but this one is way better. I thought the camera wasn't that great, but it looks amazing. As a traveler and making vlogs, carrying my Phantom 4 with me is sometimes a pain in the ass. We are considering to switch from the Phantom 4 to the Mavic Pro. Greetz Rick
Phantom 4 video quality beats Mavic. Mavic has lesser sharpness, less details, blurred out image, (check min 1.37 of this video- look at the sand, mavic doesn't have details of ridges)even if you add sharpness post production it still looks worse compared to p4, I'm surprised how many of you don't see this, possibly because for majority of ppl it's all about convenience, but any professional videographer will agree with me that P4 video quality beats Mavic, people defend Mavic because of Convenience.
I didn't say that the video quality of the Mavic is better than the Phantom 4, because the video quality of the Phantom 4 beats the Mavic for sure. When you travel you have to consider which drone suits best for you. Would you take the Phantom 4 with better video quality, but you always have to carry on a big backpack or take the Mavic with less video quality, but easier to carry on (convenience). The question is, Quality vs Convenience and everybody has his own thoughts about it.
Exactly a good videographer is more concerned about the quality of your video than what you have to carry

is possible to check that both the of the setting should be on manual setting for video to make sure its accurate. shutter speed on the p4 is higher as you can see the rolling shutter of the light . Mavic seem to be shaking quite badly as compare to p4. dynamic range seem to be better on the p4 . 2:38 . For filming is it better to keep to P4. For sport and leisure, mavic portability will be better

I just came across your channel and man, I love your videos. This is how reviews should always be done. Great job! Also, as somebody who's both a drone enthusiast and an air traffic controller, I really appreciate your attitude towards responsible drone flying. I've watched a ton of videos on drones, but almost none of them make a point about being responsible. The number of drone incidents just around the airport I work at alone have gone up a crazy amount the last few years, and that really sucks for everyone involved.

They are pretty close on everything...EXCEPT for 20:02, that bought me in a heartbeat!
About the cameras,
they are close but mavics less over-sharpened, warmer w/b, and better exposure (not as overexposed) makes it shine

Iphonedo I have a question for you.....If you plug in a headset to your Iphone or use a bluetooth headset can you then use the audio from that like if you were using the Mavic for Facebook or UA-cam live?

I was actually thinking about buying another timepiece for Christmas this year, then i thought about getting the Phantom IV after receiving an email from Best BUY...now i am definitely getting the Mavic! I ride bicycles and go on Motorcycle rallies, and being able to overfly a large crowd and have it be that easy to carry, then its a no brainer.
is it possible to designate a flight path and let it fly by itself? i think the Parrot Ar drone does it
how does video look with the protective bubble attached? I'm guessing glare is a problem but wondering if it is at least mostly clear enough to see well and provide protection in sport mode.

There is one issue where you guys should be a little careful: For the "return home" test you took off from a little steel plate which was in the ground. At least for previous Phantoms there was a problem when taking off close to some steel material. It did influence the magnetic orientation and may easily cause fly-aways.
