Look at Pakistani traditional clothes and the Saudi or Moroccan or Senegalese, they are all different Muslim clothes but all fall under the umbrella of thobes. Just because the Turkish brother is wearing a thobe does not mean he is wearing a saudi clothes...

Personally I prefer Asian, Turkish hijabi fashion, and middle eastern clothes over western pants and shirts.
Indian clothes are extremely pretty as well, I also have a love for Arab abayas, certain Arab hijab styles and certain Asian hijab styles. I can wear any one of these I want but people like you get butthurt when I refuse to walk out the street in a tank top with my ass hanging out of shorts. Because it’s not “modern” if I don’t dress like that.
It doesn’t matter what we dressed like a thousand, hundred, or even ten years ago. We’re all allowed to dress whatever way we want either like the imam or the man harassing him. It’s this magical thing called freedom.
I was in Turkey 🇹🇷 last week I was stopped and searched by police because some random lady from a bar called the police because she was suspicious of me and my friend. She thought we were Syrians (we are U.K. citizens of Bangladeshi background on holiday) Wallahi It felt like I was in Israel we were made to face the wall and searched and asked for our ID etc. Police were brutal but let us go once they confirmed we are not Syrian. I feel I can practice my religion in U.K. better than a Muslim country like Turkey this is a sad reality. Thankfully we met many Turkish people there who were extremely friendly and some were very sad to hear the treatment from their police and citizens. Peace❤️

I know what this old man is talking about. I lived in Southern Turkey and worked as a teacher in a large school. One day a man sent by the government came to the school to give a lecture about the government's charity work in Africa. He showed us some pictures, at the beginning of his talk he was very harshly criticizing the christian charity workers, but this is besides the point. He said they (the government) went to help anyone, no matter the religion, and they weren't there to convert people to Islam. Most of his talk proceeded to be about all the tribespeople who converted to Islam "out of their own choice" and videos of them saying the Shahada. As soon as the women would convert he would cover them up from head to toe (in the sweltering heat), and make sure they understood they had to dress like that. No discussion. Then they proceeded to give the starving people lots of animals to sacrifice and eat as gifts (not a bribe in any way to make them convert). I left disheartened in my own religion from the talk. The man in this video is talking about those "poor" people who are forced to dress a certain way. This is one of the reasons Turkey is going backwards every day. The focus is not on morals and modern values but rather converting, judging and criticising.

Living in Turkey, I found that there is a deep resentment of Islam and Middle Eastern culture among secular Turks who dislike the conservative aspects of traditional Anatolian culture and its treatment of women and minorities, etc. This, in combination with a massive influx of Syrians (now 5% of the population), gulf Arabs buying tons of property and becoming an enormous tourism demographic, and Islam being misused for political control, has increased this resentment to a prejudice.

Turkey has its own culture n dress code. It is true all over Islamic world Arab Attire is accepted as Islamic.People can be Muslim n still wear their cultural outfits . What matters is modesty. Imam has to look graceful as he is leading the prayer, situationally appropriate....that is the idea,not imposing on others...tolerance is the key.
