  • In this episode Aaron Shumway and Kerry discuss the powerful story of those who struggle with sin and being forgiven in several Book of Mormon stories, such as the church in Alma the Elder's day and the story of Alma the Younger. They discuss what this has to do with us in our lives, and the Savior's unrelenting, unending desire and ability to forgive us. They draw lessons from the power of the stories of forgiveness that are incredibly relevant for us today.

    Mahalo for another great discussion. Was finally able to fill a bucket list goal of going to Hawaii a few years ago with our family. We went to Oahu and the Polynesian Culture Center. Loved being able to get up with the sunrise and walking on the beach. Had such a wonderful experience one morning: as I stood and watched the waves wash away my footprints it was impressed upon my heart that this is how the atoning blood of the Savior washes away my sins. Such a beautiful personal moment! I’m so very grateful to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and for the knowledge and testimony this priceless gift has given me of merciful and loving heavenly parents and Savior and Their priceless gift of the plan of salvation for each one of us, the Atonement of Jesus Christ!

    Thank you for suggesting Elder Burton's talk on repentance. It was a great supplement to my study this week! Of course I love this podcast too. Thank you for all you do in helping us understand mentally and spiritually. 😊

    Thank you both for your knowledge and sharing of your great discussion, so powerful principles. It helped me feel the power of making and keeping covenants. So exciting that so many temples are being built throughout the world today to bless the living and those beyond the veil. Abinadi powerfully taught the doctrine, baptism resulted, and all you both talked about followed. Love how ordinances are blessing us all to be bound to Christ and how understanding and growing in covenant relationship can so beautifully bless our lives. From my study of the Book of Mormon it shows to me that the Lord can work with us all in whatever faith crisis we may face, including those like Alma the younger, but it seems when it takes the slippery slide of rebelling against God by killing the Prophets, it seems to me that is were the Lord can no longer help and destruction seems the best thing He can do. Hopefully time out in the Spirit World maybe is something the Lord can work with, at least a protection from further harm, probably to protect the innocent mostly, but as you have said, the Lord’s judgement is where He makes all things right with Him.

      It is amazing to sense how much God is trying to work with us and help us, isn't it? What an incredible thing to see in the way you have seen it. Thanks for sharing!

    My dad gave me the missionary discussions, and I did the reading and praying when I was seven; I had a pretty well-developed testimony when I was baptized. I've always been very grateful for his diligence!

    I think it’s so important to make Christ’s Church not a “business”… it’s a healing place for sinners hence “faith and repentance “ The healing process from the Savior is different for everyone in time and experience in life.

    Someone asked about the verses about not casting someone out of the synagogue and ministering to them and perhaps they can be healed. It is 3 Nephi 18:22-32.

    How did Alma get the priesthood?
    Does Mosiah 18:13 mean God came in person and conferred the priesthood authority upon Alma?

    • @TheScripturesAreReal
      @TheScripturesAreReal  2 місяці тому

      Great question. Nothing tells us for sure. I assume that even though Noah's priests were wicked, that they held the priesthood and Alma was ordained by a person with authority. But we aren't told for sure.
