A supporting role to the raw and unfiltered emotion, they are just a means to tell the story. I can imagine as an artist, she is 100% going to do what she wants to do as an artist and isn't going to listen to anybody tell her to do anything different. That is my guess why she isn't huge, she is true to herself and doesn't know how not to be. Music execs want a great voice, a good dancer, an attractive person, and one who will do what they tell them to do. The last being probably the most important.
She demo'ed many of her songs on her upcoming album on patreon's livestreams. This was one of the songs. Lots of amazing songs on the new album and I am not exaggerating.
The instrumentation is so dark, Gothic, and haunting. The lyrics lift it so beautifully. There is hope felt in the words. "Your pain will be the guide..." Nicely done, Meg. 💖
The fact that she is so talented and gorgeous and is basically perfect and yet still hasn't exploded in popularity makes me feel better about not being very successful myself...and getting fired a few weeks ago.
