    I actually bought the case only packs from Aliexpress, and bought genuine Samsung 21700 cells in Australia, and still holding charge, discharged and capacity is correct. I've used a few dead m18s with replacement cell's and just new case, looks good works good alot cheaper than buying original replacement.

    Most buyers leaving 5 stars review b/c they don't have your analytical mind. I almost fall into that Amazon XC8.0 deal but I already have 2 genuine XC8.0 so I let that 'good deal' pass by. These fakes now look so real.
    Thank you for exposing these fakes with such a methodical approach & analysis. I own Milwaukee tools for years and learn so much from you. THANK YOU SIR ! 👍👍

    People still fall for these fake items, all the seller has to do is price it right, high enough to make potential buyers think "at this price it has to be genuine" but low enough to make them think they're getting a deal .

    Good video. I just had a pair of 6.0ah M12 Milwaukee batteries come to me as defective. They looked brand new but as soon as I opened the case FAKE. They did a fantastic job of faking it and unless you hold it side by side to real one it's impossible to tell. Other than the fake cells the nickle strips are always paper thin and actually what failed. The Nickle strip on both shorted out and disconnected itself. I added a solder trace across the thin area and put them back into service. The no name cells are more than likely 2.0ah max.
    On a side note the packs that I build for myself from the aliexpress cases I almost always add solder traces since I've had a few get very hot.

    • @ThriftyToolShed
      @ThriftyToolShed  Рік тому +2

      Absolutely, the nickel strips have been super thin on all the ones that I have seen also. Update on this one, it did fail at the nickel strip for the main negative terminal under the BMS board. It was being loaded hard on a super hawg. Smoke rolled pretty well because the plastic between the board and cells started melting.

    👍 👍👍 Great video sir! Very knowledgeable and thorough. I've learned the hard way over the years is something is too good to be true, it DEFINITELY is. It's hard to beat the price of a big box store that sells their product day in and day out by the truck full. They are going to be able to cut the best deal possible between you and milwaukee. It's better to wait until a sale than waste money on something that is potentially not real. If you buy a battery from a big box store and it burns up your equipment, they will stand behind it. If you take them a half burnt battery and a burned up drill, you're on your own!

    That light thing is imo a major indication if it's real or fake. I've seen other videos that mention how a genuine milwaukee will light left to right. If they all light up at once, there's a high chance it's fake. Not an expert myself, just passing on what I've heard from a couple of other sources.

  • @maukaman

    Nice test. You definitely gave it the benefit of doubt with the cutoff voltage and it sure didn’t perform as advertised. Without any markings on those cells you have no idea what they are, could even be recycled cells. Would be interesting to see a high amp discharge test and a balance check right after. If those cells have any significant voltage difference at the end of the test that’d give a good indication that the pack won’t hold up to any heavy use for long.

      I purchased a DeWalt 2 pack in the past from Amazon and realized it was fake because the charge didn't last... and the material was brittle. A couple months later Amazon sent me an email that the seller was banned and was removed for selling fake items. They even implored me to discard the batteries because they were hazardous and my full refund was on the way. I say that to say this, I don't think Amazon knows of these illegitimate products but as they made aware of them, they do their investigation and deal with it right away

    • @ThriftyToolShed
      @ThriftyToolShed  11 місяців тому

      I made sure to report this one as well and did get a refund so no complaints there. The bad thing is the seller seems to simply change names and it still shows my bought item as a link even with different seller names. This is going to be very tough to keep up with for Amazon. We as buyers are going to have to stay vigilant and that is one reason for the video. Thanks for sharing!

      That sounds fun! I mean the spot welder is super handy and works great, but I am unsure of how you are doing the LiPo packs to say for certain for your application. With 21700 or 18650 and using Nickel strips it works extremely well for the money. I use this welder in a couple videos so you can check it out in action.

      I see. Ok it's more about the pack you are trying to use with the spot welder. I know the selection will go up to 60Ah and I believe 60C. I believe it will limit the power setting to just 1 gear or so depending on the size pack selected. I have not tried it with anything above 5AH and 50C. I know above that it will limit the level you can select to output. I believe it is a time setting so the large pack is not allowed nearly as much time as the smaller packs. You can see the gear selection and the LEDs on the pictures on Amazon.

It had been put together badly but using quality components (lg batteries, a factory spec case with no serial numbers and a genuine board) and the only thing stopping it working / reason it cost me a pittance was bad spot welds on the cell tracks. As far as fakes go its awesome, not quite the 6ah it boasts but a soild 4.5-5ah. Gotta feel for the poor sod that paid good money for a good but faulty product with a Chinese warranty 🤣

      Interesting that the 28V has the 26700 cells. The 26700's are really hard to come by except somewhere like Bang good or Alibaba. Most likely the same cells you are trying to avoid. It would be interesting to see how easy they would be to convert over to 21700 cells. They should at the least be the same length and being smaller in diameter is better than the alternative. It does make sense to me to switch over to 21700 to save the packs for sure!
