Getting ready to possibly play a Tempest Cleric and storm surge sounds incredible for it

Awesome! If your able to pull it out let me know I would love to hear it! As much as these are for the community this is also like an alpha test for many of these spells haahah

My favorite of these is the illusory puppet, I love illusion magic even though it requires dm buy in, one of my favorite things to do with illusions, which works will this spell so very well, is make an illusion of a displacer beast, even if they waste an action figuring out it's an illusion, anyone who knows about displacer beasts knows illusions are how they hunt. So even figuring out it's not real , means most people will look for the real one possibly giving you an edge in combat

Hahah an illusion of a displacer beast is just evil!!! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I really enjoy more open ended spells like that to allow players to interact with the world in new ways and thats kinda what I focused on with that one specifically!

Actually have one that I’ve been working on for a while now toxic fog it’s a derivative of the fog or mist spell. The only deal is is depending on what you use. You can use anything from acid to whatever so anything was trapped within that radius of it takes the damage of the toxin using, this can hurt pieces as well unless everyone has been inoculated against it

Sounds like a fun new spell! Not enough spells deal acid damage!

I really like these. They’re flavorful and versatile. I also notice you’ve reigned in some of the damage compared to spells on your last video I watched.
Storm Surge feels perfectly balanced, offering a lot of mobility and battlefield control. My only question is what happens if a character turns when running. Does the spell end if a player pivots in a different direction?
Eclipse is some of the coolest flavor I’ve seen in a long time (and flavorwise, it’s probably my favorite spell you’ve done). I love the versatility and how atmospheric it is, but also have some logistical questions. What actually causes the eclipse? A 3rd level spell pulling astral bodies out of orbit feels way too powerful (after all, meteor swarm is a 9th level spell and meteors are smaller than moons). Is this an illusion, a conjured disc overhead, etc.,? How far away is the eclipse visible from? It sounds like the spell only works outside and is determined by time of day/night, but is that laid out clearly? How high up is the effect creating the eclipse effect? For example, would a dragon flying in the clouds be above the eclipse and able to look down on the thing that is blocking out the sun/moon for those on the ground? Just some thoughts.
Gale Surge is great. It also seems like you may have made it underpowered to avoid going too hard the other way. When looking at Gale Surge, I compared it to Blight (4th level for 8D8 single target damage) and Steel Wind Strike (5th level), which can target up to 5 creatures for 6D10 damage and then lets you teleport. Single target spells can usually do a lot more damage, and the Silence spell-while one of the best ways to shut down spellcasters-is still very situational. I think you could either make this a 4th level spell or increase the damage output (maybe to 5D10?).
I look forward to seeing more from you’ve designed.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked them but I am arguably more glad that you noticed I reigned some in for balance purposes hahaha. My thought with Storm surge was straight line only similar to lightning bolt. If a creature can move super fast wherever they want, they could stun literally every enemy in combat which is just too powerful.
I'm glad you liked eclipse! I never haven't thought about those questions but based on it's level i would quickly assume it would be some simple illusory based effect rather than actually interacting with astral bodies.
And Gale surge was a tricky one. The reason I made the damage negligible is really because its not about the damage. If you notice there was no way to remove the silence effect one it hits unlike silence where a caster can move out of the silenced area. For the reason, I dont think it really needs any damage.
But like I always say these are basically alpha versions of spells that still need playtesting, so we will see once we get to use them at the table!
Thanks for your insights! I really appreciate it!

@@ThisCrits Thanks for responding. I’m glad the feedback seems to have been helpful.
I like your thinking on Storm Surge as a straight line. Reiterating this limitation in the spell’s text might be helpful, since movement works slightly different than a line attack. I like how this also occupies a place between the spells Zephyr Strike (1st level) and Ashardalon’s Stride (3rd level).
I imagine Eclipse will probably be the most difficult to figure out, but I think either illusion (starting 200 feet overhead) or conjuring something overhead (say, a disc that’s conjured 500 feet up) could both work logistically.
I would be interested to see how Gale Force works in playtesting. Silence is incredible for shutting down spellcasters, but I find spellcasting monsters are fairly rare. In the past, you’ve expressed not wanting spells to be too high-leveled so players can access them sooner. Given how niche Silence can be, I really do feel this could work as a 4th level spell. If you drop the damage dice down to 3D8, you could even make it a 3rd level (comparable to Thunder Wave, which deals 3D8 damage and has the utility of teleportation (which players also get at 2nd level with Misty Step, just as Silence is accessible at 2nd level)).

To put things into perspective for Gale Surge:
There are 506 official Spells in D&D
Total of 32 of them don't require verbal components
    29 for wizards
23 for sorcerers (Although they should have subtile spell or they only have themselves to blame=
    0 for clerics
    10 for druids
    11 for bards
    14 for warlocks
    9 for Artificer
    0 for Paladin
    and
    5 for Ranger

I LOVE homebrew spells, but my players just don’t seem interested in pulling any from D&D Beyond, other resources or even making their own. When I play a wizard I want to modify or make my own spells.
Whiteout is great! Love battlefield control spells and concentration spells are even better.
Eclipse sounds like it has a lot of potential. Can’t wait to use it on my unsuspecting players! 😂
Storm Surge has sounds excellent! Mobility with the ability to stun? Yes, please!
Illusory Puppet will be so much fun for roleplay, infiltrating, or investigation.
Anything that prevents a caster from tossing spells at you can turn a battle pretty one sided very quickly.

I loveeeeeee creating my own unique things to add into the game! Hopefully your players will learn to love homebrew as much as I do because man its fun lol
If you do pull out any of these spells let me know how they go! These are still alpha versions so they may be unbalanced in their current state!

Control + damage is allways a powerfull spell.
The game needs more mix spell, special thematic ones. Most elemental damage not have any secundary effect and it's a miss oportunity.

100% agree! Thats why so many of my spells have multiple effects!
