Shukran sheikh. I am a convert in Islam. Been a Muslim for 3 full yrs now. My family is a mixture of cultural And Christian ppl. They ddnt allow me to marry a muslim man without Lobola. My man is self employed in his small street business. I met him 9yrs back when i was working in a somalian restaurant. I proposed him as he had good character despite different religion and background. He is from Malawi and i am south african. I never thought of being a Muslim as i was a hard-core Christian who was practicing Christianity that does not involve culture at all. I aimed to win his soul as i blved that its a lost soul 2b a Muslim whereas Jesus is the way and all of that. We used to talk abt our religion almost everyday and at times he wouldn't go further due to my criticism of Islam. Time went by and we had 2kids together. In 2016 i noticed myself that all my conversations i had with muslim incl him are changing me. I tried to be in denial bt the listening of Mufti Menk teachings of Islam caught me and also added value in my life. I learnt from Muslims that Allah is God which i thought or was told by other ppl &my church pastors that it's an idol. Í came to realise that we are praying the same God. Eish Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)was then became my issue. I blved in Allah and the Holy Quran bt not the prophet. It was then i asked my man if some1 can be a muslim by saying there is only 1God. He then said, if 1 believes in Allah and in Quran, then Muhammad was the messenger of Allah to whom the Quran was revealed. No way u can seperate the 3 if u want to be a Muslim. I struggled with that for months without telling him and stopped conversation abt religions. I eventually became a Muslim. My man saved a little to pay for my Lobola as his family also advised him to so that he can meet my family half way. It wasn't easy living in a sin for long until feb 22nd 2020 when he paid the lobola which i can tell u it was equal to 3 real cows if he had to buy them. My family asked for 10cows. Through negotiations, they agreed on wedding mst go on. We had to bury my cousin in early march as he died on the 20th of feb . We planned end of March to be wedding day.Corona virus took place and wedding was stopped. Now we are in stage 2and last month we planned nicca to b on the 13th of Sept, next week. It is happening inshallah. This video helped me a lot as i knew nothing much abt Islamic ways. There are lot of things that i will apply to our nicca which i want my family to also learn, abt my religion. I almost spent my entire bonus on unnecessary things that i see in christian weddings. Thanks to him, he doesnt believe in taking loans unnecessarily. I know that we have sinned Allah alot by not doing right things. I am prepared to apply these rules bcs i know now that his family is welcomed not bcs of the Lobola only, but his character shined brighter than the little he gave. My story is longer that what i wrote here and i think it's enough now.🙂.salaam.

sadly if I was to follow the sunnah in my wedding i think many people would be unhappy including family on both sides. there would be no agreement.
