Mighty Oaks is a folk band from Berlin, Germany, comprised of Ian Hooper (US), Claudio Donzelli (Italy), and Craig Saunders (UK). Having enjoyed major-label success with their 2014 debut album "Howl," they've undergone an evolution of recording themselves and being recorded by other people over time. For their fourth album "Mexico" to be released in 2021, they decided to go mostly DIY and write and record the album at Ian Hooper's basement studio. To finish the album, they enlisted the producer Nikolai Potthoff, who had already produced the band's previous record and introduced them to the Sphere L22.

Zzounds sent me some gear including this Townsend mic to test and do videos on my channel. I asked for the slate but it was backordered. I’m so glad it was because this might be the best thing I’ve ever acquired. I would’ve gladly paid my own money for this mic. They also sent me 5 other mics to do a mic shootout but I’ve been using the Sphere for a week and I didn’t even open the other ones yet. I will do a comparison to warm audio mics soon but I got lost in a creative zone with this mic. I’m amazed.

How do they commit to Unison preamps when the Sphere plugin needs to be the first in the chain? The coloration of the preamp would affect the mic modeling algorithm, right?
It does affect it...in my experience ..but that can be a good thing. It's whatever you want with this mic!👍🏼
Most people are tracking with NO Unison on the mic then adding afterwards to get more accurate mic modeling but again it's whatever you like and want.
So... was the Sphere the only mic that got used on the Mexico album? It would be nice to listen to the album and understand exactly what was Sphere.
Can I use this without an Apollo? I'm using a black lion interface currently.
Yes you can use without using Apollo or UA systems. I use on Antelope it does magic.
