After seeing Tony Angelo’s new gig released yesterday, hopefully Hagerty reaches out to you & Fred as well! If not, I’ll still be here and liking that smash button on the regular. 👍
Hagerty do seem to be targeting these new type of upcoming channels from ex Motortrend staff. Being a Aussie I lost my Motortrend streaming 2 years ago so the more content from guys like Dave, Tony, Fred and even David Newbern who looks to have gone out alone, the better. Australia’s cable channel Foxtel do show some Motortrend shows, but it’s 10 year old content:(

@@beznerindustries3057 yes I do watch his UA-cam but a lot of his stuff is high end, high dollar, and high specialised knowledge required. "You won't have an oil leak for 15 to 20 miles... cuz it's a jeep". Truer words have never been spoken. These videos are awesome Dave. Thoroughly enjoyable to watch and super informative. Thank you for all your hard work.
I know it is lots of work to film yourself while creating great content but you pull it off and it looks almost effortless. Yeah, your noise levels are sometimes off and you might drop the camera once in a while, but it is very entertaining. I think your attitude, charisma ,and knowledge all come together for something special.
I remember replacing the rear main seal in my Late Dads 1969 Jeep CJ-5. We had to lay on the driveway to do it. The new seal came with a wire that had a gripper thing on one end that the "instructions" said just clamp the gripper to the seal and it will just slide out. Yeah right it took us two nights after supper to finally get the seal out and the new one in. I lost my Dad on Feb.15, 2019. Dad was not what you call a car guy but he was always all in on what ever I dragged home.
I love this channel because I love the content, and Dave legitimately is the man. I hate this channel entirely due to jealousy: 1. Everything is so clean, living in the north east my vehicles look like these "junk" ones for all of 6 months before they start rusting. 2. I just swapped a TH350 in my junk car on gravel and stone last night... my lift jealousy is at an all time high.
This Jeep build sent me down a rabbit hole since it first showed up on DED. I sold my JK that I had since new and went on a quest for a decent YJ to build, and I ended up with a killer buggy instead. 😂
I'm sure they will eventually but Fred has vaguely suggested that they have to wait until their MT contracts expire to start working together again. Or something like that.
Finally! someone on youtube does the gasket sealant on paper gaskets correctly. I always see people putting a bead on the flange and then putting the paper gasket on and calling it good. a thin film on the paper applied with your fingers works a treat and keeps the paper from failing. TY Dave!
I was interested in where the butter jeep came from so I’m digging into the history! I’m learning a bit about the 4.0 here and the LS swap in the recent videos. Lots of really cool stuff going on
That old chain was rough! New chain and sprocket set looks like a nice upgrade. The old one looked like a motorcycle chain, but the new one looks like multiple plates per linkage. Nice

This such perfect timing... Just finished rebuilding my 1992 4.0, had the tranny and T-case rebuilt, and I have a great how to video... This is my first Jeep project, so THANKS!!!
Some of those 4.0L motors have issues with loose rocker arms, it could be the miss you are hearing and the source of the noise. Loosening all the main caps and letting the crank drop a bit can help to remove the rear main seal. It appeared that the one you removed was in backwards.
LuK clutch. Pronounced Luke is a Geman company. They have a plant in Wooster OH. Depending on the age of that clutch it could have been made there or in their plant in Mexico.
I just did all this with my 97. You need loctite on the rear bearing cap. I used three Felpros seals and it poured oil...used a Mopar and it's finally dry. I replaced my oil pump and timing chain with Melling. Nice work!
@@thedirtheadshed Don't forget the loctite...the FSM specifies 518 but I've had luck using 971. I also lubed the bearings and new seals with engine assembly oil. My AX-15 transmission is leaking so I'm putting in a DEI tunnel heat and noise shield and probably going to wrap the exhaust from the headers to the CAT.
Unfortunately the 4.0L tends to suffer from piston slap due to short piston skirts. My 94 ZJ is noisy AF, but has great oil pressure and seems to run just fine at 204K miles. I've listened with a stethoscope to determine if a timing chain would help, and the front of the engine really seems quiet. I just put a Luk clutch set in earlier this year with a rear main seal and oil pan gasket. Been really happy with the Luk setup, so far. I'm far from properly geared (3.73 w/32" tires), but have managed to chirp 2nd with it. Hopefully the Centerforce treats you well!
