I think my favorite surrealist has got to be Zdzisław Beksiński. His art is absolutely terrifying. But it is a specific kind of terror that I find fascinating. Just a visceral expression of authoritarianism and dystopia. Like all other surrealist, he wasn't just drawing spooky skeletons. He was making a statement.
@@angelwings7930 The only thing that is ugly is you condemning art! No one is worshipping Satan. What's attractive to others may not be attractive to you. Grow up.
So many people miss how big surrealism was in Mexico!! Leonora Carrington is one of my favorite surrealist artists who made a home here, despite being English, she has a museum dedicated to her in my hometown, San Luis Potosí!
Woooo more art in color!!! One of my faves (who sits just on the edge of Surrealism) is Saul Steinberg, a Romanian-American cartoonist. I love the way he uses line and the way he visualises concepts like time and place. He also drew lots of funny looking cats.
Lovely artists shown here. I'm trying to learn more about art history but I just love creative art. Thank you for this channel I'm glad I discovered it. I'm South African and I'd recommend South African artists Dumile Feni and Gerard Sekoto. both works inspire me differently.
I know you mentioned Ernst as one of the "biggies", but nonetheless he had a great influence on me. Especially his sequential art works "Une Semaine de Bonte" and "LA Femme de Centieme Tetes."
What is real and what is not? In our time of cell-phones, social media and fake-news this question is even more relevant. Our world today, it is SO surreal! ua-cam.com/video/aQjzqc4STGE/v-deo.html In this video we combine the surreal images of Rene Magritte with the images we we constantly see on our screens, that affect our lives on so many levels. Interior Decorator Blues (inspired by René Magritte)

He is my favourite surrealist artist as well!!
He's the surrealist to end them all. Honestly on a technical level and in terms fundamentals he blows everyone else out of the water.
@@poopamultimatepoopy Yeah, he's pretty next level in regards to skill and vision.
I dislike ugly surrealism. It’s not all ugly and disturbing. Ask yourself why ugliness and satanic darkness is attractive to you.
