I’m so glad you made this video I tell people this story any time I get the chance to talk about The Bean which is,,, frequently enough, living in Chicago lmao
Thank you for the explanation. I just saw a youtube short about how Anish Kooper tried to get exclusive rights to vantablack (and succeeded I suppose) and a comment mentioned the whole drama with Stuart Semple and I just HAD to see what it is all about
Honestly, even if stuart semple isn't really that popular but it does makes me laugh a LOT. that he did this just to be kinda petty Also! i normally don't comment but i like ur videos a lot, i have learned a lot from you :D
Hi I'm a year late but my favorite sculpture is a tie between Winged Victory of Samothrace, the first piece I saw as a teenager that made me fully stop in my tracks, or the Condensation Cube because I think it's beautiful to create something that is a literal interpretation of art changing in response to the person viewing it
Hello I just discovered your page in the pursuit of art history and black artist. This video was the most dangerous costing me £210 at Culture Hustle shopping 😍 Thank you for the content and your expertise! Is that your art in your background? It’s a very nice setting Thanks again!
When I heard about Anish Kapoor I thought he was some young artist that get his popularity hit his head. But turns out he is 70 year old man that didn't chill out like normal people do. Gatekeeping others from using vantablack is quintessential boomer move
What I find funny is that Anish Kapoor is one of the most successful artist alive, but unless you're an art scholar you almost certainly first heard his name in the context of Vantablack. Before you saw any of his art or knew anything else about him you thought "Fuck Anish Kapoor."
He one of the biggest scamming for profit artist out there. What he did for chicago cloudgate just makes me hate him more. He lied about the cost of building it then claimed all commerical rights on a paid public sculpture.
I love a lot of his work in the flesh. It doesn’t stop him coming across as an entitled, charmless manchild, though - it’s just thankfully less relevant when the work has a presence of its own.
@@isaiahromero9861 it keeps happening all the time , high quality paints , brushes , chalks .. people will be hoarding stuff because they have money .. you introduce a super rich dude like this one , they will not be hoarding anymore , they buy the means of production entirely. Hypocrisy is that half of the people here blaming this guy are just super jealous of the power money brings along , they would have done the same kind of things if given an equivalent amount of money . Spending to gain power is rooted in human beings, you can't replace it .
@@mb59621 if I had that kind of money, I'd just buy some vanta black if I wanted to use it, like a normal person. Did you miss the part about him buying the rights to that color so that other artists can't use it? Or do you just hate art as much as he does? Maybe you just identify with his ego, idk either way your opinion is going into the trash lol
How someone "a supposed artist" could buy the rights to an art material and not let any other creative person use it is beyond my thought process. It's like every color ever invented has an original artist behind it. To think if every color pigment was copyrighted by the original user. We would gave zero colors to put on our pallettes. So u have this guy buy exclusive rights and no other artist can use this material to create with. We only get to see what Mr. Greedy wants to do with it. At least let other artist use it to see what they might do with it. Like I said if every creative person that came up with a new pigment or technique copyrighted it and no other artist could create with it the world would be a narrow viewed place. It's all greed and a limiting move in the art world where so many great artist give away secrets in hopes to seeing what other artist can do with thier technique or material. We could buy Black 3.0, but that doesn't limit how greedy this guy is. Imagine the first person to use a lead pencil or white pigments copyrighting thier materials....that's the most damaging thing I see with this whole saga.
I greatly disrespect stuart semple & believe his contributions to the art community has been a net negative. He has no right to call Anish Kapoor his arch nemesis, he's accomplished absolutely nothing in comparison, this fake feud he made because he couldn't use the toxic death material is the only notable thing in his legacy. I don't care about his gimmicky art materials, especially if their success is built on the back of meme-ifying and trivializing the work of another artist. Also cloud gate doesn't resemble a bean if you look at it from literally any angle besides directly from the side of the arch, it's too wide.
I'd love to look more into his works from a critical position! Researching for this video was definitely tip of the iceberg for me so thanks for the different perspective :)
one dislike on this video.... i see you anish
Now theres no dislikes forever 💀💀
Now It's 3 anish there
😂
My favorite sculptor is probably Louise Bourgeois and mostly her soft sculptures, I love a good soft sculpture
Her aluminum hanging work "The Couple" honestly haunts me!!

I call it the Bean sculpture and love that he hates it 🌸

not my opinion! just saying what was said~ most iconic line of the video
😭

One day I am going to smear "black 3.0" on one of his works. It will be marvelous.

He doesn't really own the color. It's not a real color. He owns the technology on how it's made.
stuart semple... praise be!
You are more engaging than an art professor ❤👏🏽
You’re too good 👏🏾. Thanks for this.
OMG love this and your presenting style 😍😂🥰 go off!! 💅🏻
Every time I watch your videos, I wonder about the art on the wall behind you. Have you ever done a video on it?
I didn’t even know the bean was by this dude lol
wow I love drama! more please
The irony is Anish Kapoor's childishness helped Stuart Semple's carrier.
this one was real fun lol I live for drama 😆
This is amazing
Is this where the line "The Rickest Rick" comes from in Rick and Morty?
Yep.
Thank you for doing what you do
Great story teller, simple and pretty in pnk the winner!
When I heard about Anish Kapoor I thought he was some young artist that get his popularity hit his head. But turns out he is 70 year old man that didn't chill out like normal people do. Gatekeeping others from using vantablack is quintessential boomer move
This is so funny and interesting thanks so much for this video!! I knew a little about Anish kapoor but this was great

Such juicy drama!!!
While I've heard the story before you tell it way better. Keep spilling the tea.
So great explain! You are great!
Love your show❤️❤️❤️
the cars that 'disappear' when people paint them in 4.0
I just realized that I am at my brokest broke and I also have the exclusive rights to it 😂
Anise Kapoor.
Judging by the price of 15ml of the mirror paint I think he makes a little profit 🙂 I can't afford a bottle 😂
He one of the biggest scamming for profit artist out there. What he did for chicago cloudgate just makes me hate him more. He lied about the cost of building it then claimed all commerical rights on a paid public sculpture.
Have you heard about Rebecca Horn, a German artist?
the teeeaaaaa
I made out with the pink and it is the pinkest pink in the world

Artists do this all the time . Which world are people living in ?
Like who?

Great story! Although your understanding of the NRA is not accurate. Still…loved all the tea and loved all the bean stories.

That's some Metallica level crap with the vanta black
Anish Kapoor seems like a Karen!!
I don’t like Anish but I like that he sued the nra.
You are so cute ❤️
You are messy 🤣

Sorry you can't buy pinkest pink or blackest black Anish

I see Anish Kapoor has entered the world of alt accounts!
Or maybe it’s someone sticking it to a pretentious artist who thinks he’s above other people.
Sorry if you have to resolve to stealing just to be petty about some color, kapoor. It would definitely go great with The Bean tho
I hate pink.
Anish???
Why pink is so good 😨
Artists are so overrated, AI is coming for ya while you fight for colors that you don't even know how to use
