@Paul In Kyushu we did have a middle class back them . Colombia is a country very rich in natural resources and and hard working and resourceful. Average college education is four to five years in order to receive degree you have to be able to speak and write in another language of your choice .

Holy shit! 😍 This is one of the most wonderful watches I have ever seen… I wish I was older and had enough money to buy this piece. I hope Orient keeps these wonderful prices! Thanks you for sharing this!
Having seen the YT reviews for this watch in late 2019, it ticked all the boxes for me. Amazingly I discovered that Orient Star watches aren’t that widely available in the UK, and this model certainly wasn’t. While it meant paying import duties, I bought mine from Seiya in Japan and haven’t regretted it for one second. Stunning watch!
Thanks for the review ! I've ordered this watch few days ago, now waiting for the delivery. I guess it's currently (in 2020) the best affordable watch in this style. Vintage omega, for exemple, are sky rocketting for a vintage quality and accuracy. With this Orient Star, the best of both worlds : 50's design with the simple case design, bombed dial and glass, "rose gold" markers and current dress size + modern quality. Definitely a keeper.
Wow! Part of me wishes I’d brought a white dial version now instead of my black dial model. Very nice review and amazing how good it looks under macro. Absolute mystery why this watch is so overlooked in the watch community. I have a feeling that most enthusiasts prefer sports watches over dress watches. This is a brilliant retro/modern vibe though.
Great review and i am a single brand collector and its orient star.... currently have over 20 of orient stars and over the years close to over 30-40 of them...and have a royal orient and its a beauty...not comparable to orient star....love the under marketing of the brand and the quirkiness of their designs as they are no homage to other brands...
My first watch was an Orient automatic, back in the late 60s. I still have it, and it still works just fine. I don’t need to spend stupid amounts of money to get a good watch.
This is also a great homage to a 1960s Omega Seamaster (which i own that was handed down from my grandfather and father to me). The Orient Star being 38.5mm with a 20mm strap brings the style of watch into the modern era which i prefer to wear over the smaller vintage time pieces. Ive put mine onto a leather nato with polished buckles and really happy with it.
Remember in the video how I said that Orient doesn't market themselves well? This is a great example. "Orient Royal" was introduced in 1959 but at some point discontinued. "Royal Orient" (name flipped) was re-introduced in 2004 as a thinner and finer watch than Orient Star, but the name was discontinued in 2016. So Orient Star is now the top line name again.
@@WondersofWatchdom Yeah whoever works at orient running their marketing department and branding really needs to rethink their strategy at communicating with consumers by simplifying their product line, without the thousands of variations.
I love the fact that I pay most of my money on the watch, not on the brand. Ordered one for $320, looking forward to own this and enjoy it for the years to come.
I absolutely love mine. I picked it up pre-owned for just $260 CAD (about $207 USD at the time of comment), but would now happily pay more for one. Mine has silver indices and hands along with a silver dial like yours, with no gold embellishment on the movement, so not quite as high-end looking, but still lovely. I've seen the Star Classic in blue too (there's one currently for sale in my area), while a quick search has shown other colourways. Such a fabulous watch no matter the version chosen. I like what you did with the original strap, BTW. I left mine in the box and put it on a new Hadley Roma, but must admit it deserves something better still. Will likely pick up a nice genuine lizard strap for it in the near future. Thanks for your excellent review of this impressive timepiece.
In February this year, I got an Orient Bambino II Version 1 with stainless case and black dial. Except for the date and case diameter, it is nearly identical to an older Omega Seamaster in appearance. It consistently runs at +7 seconds per day. A couple of days later I got an Orient Mako II with the Pepsi bezel and dial, runs +17 seconds per day. Both are phenomenal quality watches for VERY low prices. Great video, thanks for sharing!
Love orient and own several. After seeing your great review I'm going to get the orient star classic. Best regards from Sheffield South Yorkshire England 😀😺
YES! Such a good watch, I have black strap silver indices version and funny you compare to a Calatrava, I call my Orient Star my "poor man's Patek." It's really is a great watch for the money, if I had one small thing to complain about, it would be that I would prefer a no date version for a more classic dress watch. Overall one of my favorite watches in my humble collection.
One important difference between most Orient watches and their luxury counterparts is that in the case of the latter one is virtually guaranteed superb accuracy. My Orient star classic (with blue hands) has an accuracy of plus 15 seconds a day, which isn't great. On the other hand, my Orient Star Elegant Classic enjoys an accuracy of minus 1 or 2 seconds daily, which is amazing. The point is that with Orient, you can expect the degree of accuracy to be a gamble, but not so with luxury watches. Also, the straps of luxury watches are far superior to those of Orient. Still, I agree with your suggestion that for the price Orient offers damned good watches overall.
Another excellent review, I am now looking to add an Orient Star to my collection. One very small point though. Many people outside of the watch industry get this wrong: the style of buckle for a leather strap that has two leaves that fold in and lock, is called “deployant” not “deployment”. It is like many other terms in watchmaking, a French word.
Once again a very well done video and narration. My only one critique of your channel is that I have now run out of your videos to watch and am now unsure how to proceed with my life . So more videos will be gratefully appreciated .
I started with - meh, not for me, but you convinced me thoroughly. Excellent video, thanks for sharing. Orient sounds like a great option for a lover of the technology and craftsmanship - regardless of the brand or "cache".
This video is great, you've got a new sub mate. I have a hand full of vintage omegas 40s and 50s and this would sit very well amongst them in terms of style but with the modern sizing and refinements you would expect. I love it!
I have the version with silver hands and markers, and this gold version is more attractive and easier to read. But I bought the silver used on eBay for $140 and think it was a real bargain.
After seeing a sapphire crystal shatter into a million pieces after just being bumped into a doorframe, I'm no longer on the "sapphire or bust!" bandwagon. Mineral crystal is just fine.
I got an Orient star with a black dial. This watch punches WAY above its price tag. My only complaint is that I do not like the dial color nearly as much as I thought I would. I really think I would love to have one with the white dial and gold second hands as you have. Either way, I like this watch a lot and if I end up selling it, that only means Im doing that to replace it with a dial color that I like more.
Excellent review I must say. The fact that you love the watch is very obvious. Beautiful presentation and the flow so logical. As precise and eloquent as the watch movement itself.
I have the same watch. It runs only 4 to 5 seconds slow every 24 hours. Got it on Jomashop last year for $249. I wear it on a Hadley Roma orange ostrich skin strap and it looks great as a summer time watch with short-sleeved dress shirts!
Painted or chemically treated blue hands. Thermally blued hands cost around 300 just for three hands and they sparkle with brilliance as they are literally blue steel. It's an incredible skilled, time consuming process. Painted blue hands or chemically treated just look dull.
Excellent review. I've had an Orient Monarch hand winding watch for quite a while and it looks very similar to the one you have with the same power level indicator.
I used to see these all the time new for $250 but ended up buying a Seiko sarb035. I felt the Seiko was a little less dressy and had a sapphire crystal which the Orient sadly lacks. I don't see them as cheap anymorel, maybe they were discontinued?
I love your reviews. I hope you're well I have not seen many reviews from you anymore. Thank you for this review this is a beautiful watch. I'm saving up for Orient star. I have and an ocean King New Old sock. Thanks again
Thank you. Great review. I noticed A previous comment requested a link to the deployment clasp. I didn’t see this if it was uploaded and I would love to know myself. Thanks again. FRS
The date window should've been slightly larger and the wheel seems far from the dial. Also 13.3mm is dive watch thickness. Wish Orient made it around 10mm or less.
Today I ordered one in blue, the reference is RK-AF0004L Almost zero information on internet, so I decided to take the risk. So impatient until arrives
Hi, love the video which is very informative addressing all my questions. The only thing is, a sapphire glas should be possible at this price, see Citizen Tsuyosa for what is possible.
I have the first gen power reserve , the movement is not even hackable, however. The saphire cristal, metal finish, the dial is just really well done I have many watches over the years, but, this orient always amaze me its quality and price, not only buying a name, will go up in one point.
I bought the one with the black dial it is absolutely Beautiful. Please if you can can you please make a review on it. Thank you for the video and keep up the great work.
When I watch someone like Producer Michael go on and on about new age watches like a Richard Mille, I just don't get it. They're absolutely hideous and cost and arm and a leg simply due to incredible marketing (which I personally don't get). Very tacky and tasteless and not technically impressive whatsoever. I'd take a Rolex or Patek over that trash 10 times out of 10.
Thanks for the review of this fine watch. I own this version in plated gold and it really is a nice timepiece. Hopefully after watching this video I'll put it back into my watch rotation.
I rarely wear a dress watch, but do occasionally need one. That being said, I couldn’t justify spending a large amount on one. I bought this watch in silver for $315 and I can’t believe the value for the money. It’s pretty hard to find new. If you find one, grab it.
Fantastic video. I've considered adding a vintage style piece into my watch set lately and struggled between Tissot Visodate and Orient Star (bracelet, blue hands). Though I have a 20% discount with the local Tissot dealer, I'm starting to feel gravitated 2wards Orient star. Much more of a watch for the money. Thanx for the vid.
I own the very same model. Normally I wear a more sporty style of watches. But this one is very impressive for relatively little money for the rare occasions when I need a real dress watch.
Beautiful watch & great presentation, i agree regards the marketing aspect but could be a factor for their reasonable pricing & quality balance (which seiko have gone the opposite direction)
I have this in gold version, it looks so good even that sometimes people mistaken it with patek philippe. Even at high end watch butikes that sell iwc, hublot etc I compare my watch and it looks so much better.
Great review and video! I've just subscribed. What a beautiful, classic watch! Only one thing: could you please give us the model number? I've just now went into the Orient website to purchase this exact watch, but there are too many models that look similar. Thank you.
I would love to start a wristwatch collection as I already started a pocket watch one. I especially love the classic styles of the 1950's-'60's and that's what I would collect. Also I'm just not interested in anything over $500 more or less.
Orient Watches are absolutely rare in Germany. I reckon the only Chance I have is to go the Netherlands right across the border, in a town I know, to a Watchdealer who used to offer Orient Models some Time ago. Have to wait until after the Quarantines in both Countries have been lifted. A Nice Watch.
Or go online and buy from Amazon, eBay or grey marked sites. I bought 7 Orient watches over the course of 9 months and am happy with all of them. I come from Hamburg, Germany btw.
Orient makes some excellent watches but as you note, their marketing and even their name, pose problems in different areas. I have an inexpensive Orient Union with champaign guilloche dial and blue hands. It is a beautiful watch and perfect for dress.
Yes indeed. Bad for Orient, but good for consumers who want low-cost great quality! Their website is also terrible - watches that look fabulous in person look like flat, bland computer images.
I was in Japan for 2 years and I wanted to buy a Seiko Alpinist. Unfortunately I couldn't find it anywhere (it was just being discontinued). Instead I found this beauty, I certainly don't regret my purchase. It has been my dress watch since then. The quality is amazing and if it was just a little thinner it would be absolutely perfect but eh for the price it's amazing.
Sorry I don't recall the name. I bought it from esslinger.com, which is where I but most of my stuff. They vet the items they sell so it's never junk (and they're not paying me to say this).
I have an orient watch and I really ove it. As you said, when you want to see the time, you take a minute to see the beauty of details Great Video! Greetings from Peru(Latam)
I've got the black dial version of this on a bracelet. However i wouldn't really bother recommend it to anyone. I would suggest a Tissot visodate over this.
Tissot is okay (I have 2). I don't think you're getting much for about 40% more. Dial is not as nice. You could argue the ETA movement is better but I always prefer in-house, given the option.
@@WondersofWatchdom i noticed the price of the tissot has gone up to £495 i the UK. I bought that watch a couple of years ago for my dad and I'm sure it was only £400. The Tissot will be easier to get repaired. Parts will be available at certified centres but the Orient is harder to source parts for. In fact I cant see anything on orient repair after googling it. And as swatch own ETA and Tissot it technically is an inhouse, especially if its the new powermatic. The best watch to have at this price is any watch with an eta 2824.
@@londonoverground I don't totally agree but that's a well thought out comment. It's true that ETA is easy to source parts - the problem is that often the single part is selling for as much as a new movement! Especially the delicate parts that guys like me accidentally break all the time.
i have the blue hands version of the exact same watch . this model is superb. however the very latest OS with reserve indicator is so ugly .....plus please note that Orient Vs Orient Star is NOT equivalent or comparable to Seiko vs Grand Seiko. but More like Seiko vs Seiko Presage, especially in terms of Price and quality . Orient had their previous Grand seiko equivalent but they phased that out i think around 2000s or around 2010 . should be called Royal Orient but they might not be truly equivalent in terms of quality comparable to Grand Seiko
Can you pls confirm its a mineral crystal ? Bc i read its a sapphire crystal on some websites. I also think its a mineral bc sapphire would be hard to be domed like that.
Their English website says “crystal glass” and the Japanese website says “inorganic crystal” so I’m going to assume it’s still mineral crystal. The higher end models clearly say “sapphire crystal” on the website, and some of the watches have “front sapphire crystal” written on the caseback.

Wonderful video! By the way, Royal Orient was the high end product by Orient, but they shut down this line around 2007.
Too bad you don’t make more videos, this is/was one of the most awesome watch channel on youtube
Thanks I appreciate it! New video coming in a few days, with more to follow.
Agree with your assessment 100%. This is beautiful. It's all I can come up with to say.
Beautiful watch & great presentation, i agree regards the marketing aspect but could be a factor for their reasonable pricing & quality balance (which seiko have gone the opposite direction)
Weak marketing - Orient loses, consumers win!
Orient is the new Seiko (value wise)
Great video and review. I own an Orient Star GMT and love it. Totally agree that Orient Stars are very under priced and are fantastic value.
GMT is nice! Glad to hear you enjoy it.
Where can I buy this watch? I can't find it
I pasted a link in the description. Unfortunately the market has recognized the value in this watch and the price is up!
I have this in gold version, it looks so good even that sometimes people mistaken it with patek philippe. Even at high end watch butikes that sell iwc, hublot etc I compare my watch and it looks so much better.
The finishing isn’t as good as an IWC, Hublot etc, but the overall aesthetic is fantastic isn’t it. Nice choice.
@WondersofWatchdom Yes, I agree if they chose to have fine brushed steel gold plated on the sides it would look much better.
Hi, does orient have watch models which are automatic and hand winding? This model looks elegant. Hope to have one when convenient. Bless you.
Price? U.K.
And which colour is the dial featured in this video?
White or champagne
It’s white or pearl, but it looks champagne due to the reflection of the gold.
Great review and video! I've just subscribed. What a beautiful, classic watch! Only one thing: could you please give us the model number? I've just now went into the Orient website to purchase this exact watch, but there are too many models that look similar. Thank you.
There's a link in the comments: it's the first one in the list. On Orient's website it's the AF02005S.
I got blue hand version with sliver markers.
That's a great model also. I was tempted to buy it.
Interesting. Thanks for the comment.
Or go online and buy from Amazon, eBay or grey marked sites. I bought 7 Orient watches over the course of 9 months and am happy with all of them. I come from Hamburg, Germany btw.
Perfect review, balanced and precise ... Thank you very much !
Great video, stunning watch...more videos please!!
This one is way better than the Alpinist in terms of quality and finishing at almost half of the price.
Get help
I just bought this exact watch on eBay, what size and name is the deployment clasp you put on the strap? I'm looking to buy that as well. Thank you.
Sorry I don't recall the name. I bought it from esslinger.com, which is where I but most of my stuff. They vet the items they sell so it's never junk (and they're not paying me to say this).
I have an orient watch and I really ove it. As you said, when you want to see the time, you take a minute to see the beauty of details
Great Video!
Especially the delicate parts that guys like me accidentally break all the time.
definitely motivates me to add one to my collection!
Beautiful watch (I have one) and great review. I don't tire of looking at it. Nice touch with the deployant clasp
No
A very classy, elegant watch, beautiful!
An excellent watch...considering the price. Well made, great features like hacking, power reserve indicator, etc, only found in more expensive brands.
Great video! Absolutely wonderful watch! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
i have the blue hands version of the exact same watch . this model is superb. however the very latest OS with reserve indicator is so ugly .....plus please note that Orient Vs Orient Star is NOT equivalent or comparable to Seiko vs Grand Seiko. but More like Seiko vs Seiko Presage, especially in terms of Price and quality . Orient had their previous Grand seiko equivalent but they phased that out i think around 2000s or around 2010 . should be called Royal Orient but they might not be truly equivalent in terms of quality comparable to Grand Seiko
Well that's pretty much all just opinion vs. right and wrong - but sure. The Royal Orient was discontinued in 2016.
I think the size is what’s wrong with the watch. When it comes to dress watches i dont think that they should be bigger then 36 mm.
You're a traditionalist.
At least as well-executed as a vintage (Patek Phillippe) Calatrava. The Orient Co. is chuffed to pieces.
Spending more does get you more accuracy. My JLC is 1second a day. But, the orient is a nice looking watch.
The Orient is 2 seconds a day, so pretty happy with that. Love my JLC - whole different class of watch and a real showstopper, but also 20x the price.
Agree 100% with the screws on the dial on some of the other models - ruins it for me.
where can i buy this right now, 2023
Looks like it's still available but the price is higher: amzn.to/3Yq3EWC
I have one. Blue hands and metal bracelet. It is Amazing.
I know the exact model you’re talking about. Beautiful watch.
