I've seen that video you mentioned too. It was a while ago though. I can't remember who did it either. Thanks for doing this one again for the guys that missed it, and some of us who forgot. It's very helpful, and now I'll remember to try it out :)
Really appreciate the time and effort you took to make this video for us. Great process and top result PJ. Like Dave, I thought the steel wool was a loaf of bread to begin with too LOL!
Hey man ,thanks 4 the feed back. I know it's a few times. went and got some .00 steel wool. that was the ticket !!!! Love our small hot rods... THAX !!!
Cool! Thanks for the how to video. Im going to have to try it soon. I believe it was Brad AKA pickernation where I seen it the 1st time about a year ago. Thanks again bud.
been trying this the mixture looks great but when i apply it nothing sticks to the car when i blow dry it or air dry it still comes out the same silver as before
I thought the steel wool was a loaf of bread..I was wondering what you'd be using that for lol....good video PJ...btw do you clear coat after this process is done?
And btw, if you put orange spray paint+ gold/bronze + brown+ a little bit of silver and throw in some sand and add just a tiny bit of water in a bowl or container then mix it up and paint it on several times with a paint brush, of gives the model a perfect rust and its harmless....
Hey Man, nice video... Sorry, i speak a little english, and i don´t understand the ingredients or the difeerents products that you use in the video... Can you say me this product?? please... thank´s man!!
Personally, I'd put a matte clear clear coast over it, but, I'd put some dirt and dust on it. Also, more rust behind the wheels, fenders, and a little more on the hood and roof all for more realism.
Looks great, two questions: 1) What's the mix ratio? (at 1:56 you said distilled water, I assume you mean vinegar, lol) 2) How did you get down to bare metal so cleanly? Thanks in advance!
Well it looks good on video, but, can ya tell us what the ratio is for the mix. also you must have to use very fine steel wool... tried it, on a stripped 32 ford body, not so happy with results. WTF ?????
Sorry Dave...not too sure on the mix ratio. I would guess 50/50 mix or so. The process has to be repeated like 3 times. Keep at it until you get the results you are happy with. Also try sanding it after for a little different result. This video is just a tip....your results may be a little different. If you're not happy with the results...start over.
Great way to really rust your cars, unfortunately I disagree on doing this to any diecast. As it will rust your vehicle (unless thats what you want). I'd prime first, set that, then paint the undercoat your rust colour(browns, tans, reds), set that. Next step is fun, hairspray the areas you want the rust to show through - then sprinkle some ground sea salt on those spots. Let this dry preferably over night (needs to set really well). Now paint it in your colours. let this dry. With a dry stiff brush, remove the salt. After the salt is removed use a damp brush and work the model as gently or as hard as desired to remove any excess paint.
I like this chevy 62 but as I do not understand English I do not know what products you use ... if you can answer me in Spanish to make my own custom, .thanks
Hola Pablo, uso lana de acero vinagre de alcohol y agua oxigenada (peroxido de hidrogeno) lo unico que no le entendi es la proporcion que uso.....habra que probar no?
Just an FYI this creates a chemical called peracetic acid and its very acidic and can be pretty dangerous, yes it produces a neat effect but it's really dangerous
Cool! Thanks for the how to video. Im going to have to try it soon. I believe it was Brad AKA pickernation where I seen it the 1st time about a year ago. Thanks again bud.
I don’t think you understand how much time this saved me..Thxs
I am definitely gonna try this, I am making a "mad max" style custom and want that weathered look. Cool technique!!

THAX !!!
Awesome Dave...would love to see a video. Glad you had good results with it. Yeah man these little diecast vehicles are addictive.

Thanks for sharing this interesting tip PJ.
Perfect for any junkyard diorama PJ!!!!
I just found this video because I'm looking to do the same thing. What proportion of ingredients are you using 50/50?
How long does the finished product last? I would think it will eventually wear off. Maybe clear coat over it with a matte finish?
Very great how to vid I will definitely be trying this method out
That looks amazing!
Really cool. Just wondering where do you sell your items. Would like for one of my hot wheel scenes.
What proportions for the two ingredients? I've heard salt speeds the process, too.
I too would like to know the proportions you used? Thx
how much vinegar and how much hydrogen peroxide do you use? thanks and great video!!
That looks fantastic!
Try it 4 some reason mine did not turn out...but I did not use the dryer I let it air dry do u think that why it did, not work???
Can you apply this to plastic parts also? Or only metal
been trying this the mixture looks great but when i apply it nothing sticks to the car when i blow dry it or air dry it still comes out the same silver as before
Cool video! A doubt: after doing the whole process, you pass clear lacquer?
Thank you for your attention and greetings from the Brazilian Amazon.
Do you clear right over that or scuff it some before clear. Or do you clear at all
You will the steel wool for it work. Ratio is Peroxide 60/40 vinegar
Great video, just one question why do you use Red color instead of any other. Thank
Super dope thank u for the tip
Thanks for watching and commenting!
U should put a gun rack and make it a old Texas truck

Does the paint have to be removed?
How strong does it sticks on?
What I did is put the vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, steel wool then I put more hydrogen peroxide and use a q tip to apply the foam

Eso pensaba je
Thank god you told us where to put the steel wool, otherwise we might have put it somewhere other than the plate you know...
thank you for the video I am trying to make a Jeepers Creepers van with the rust effect
Doo you hit it with a clear coat after?
I would suggest using a matte clear coat or not using one at all if you want the most realism..
Just an FYI this creates a chemical called peracetic acid and its very acidic and can be pretty dangerous, yes it produces a neat effect but it's really dangerous
You are a smart guy because you can make the truck not dameg
